CHARACTERS
NAME | Ezra Abara
AGE | 23
SEXUALITY | biromantic arospec
PRONOUNS | he/him
APPEARANCE | More painting than human, Ezra stands at about 6'4 and has flair for the dramatic, preferring dressing 'classy' to blending in. Well. Classy as according to him, and he seems to have gotten his sense of a style from a shroom induced fever dream. His nails are filed down to neat squares, and he smells like freshly washed laundry most days, the barest hint of an airy cologne coloring the air if one were to get close.
BACKSTORY | Born from the union of a ia and a mortal, Ezra grew up a little strange. He was raised in a small town in Transilvania, and picked up travelling as an adult, retaining a lot of his education from Romania. He was the definition of charm as a teenager, though academics stuck to him like water to a duck. He never knew his mother, though his father tried his best to be the role model his son needed. Cooking was the way they bonded, with both Ezra and his dad cementing acts of service as their love language. As an adult, he registered with a monster-hunter guild situated in Transilvania, and spent three years hunting minor strigoi and mori. Upon coming to the United States, Ezra was out of work, and resorted to hunting down angels for money. It was fun, lucrative, and he made a lot of friends in the angle-hunter community. The ethics never really bothered him as long as there was money to be made.
PERSONALITY | Ezra is an easygoing man with a certain charm. He's the type to draw eyes when he walks into the room, making friends with even the grumpiest of people. Compliments flow easily from his tongue, as does familiarity and comfort. He operates on a 'do no harm, take no shit' philosophy, and always has a good word to say about everyone he meets. Drama seems to look him in the eye, and consistently decide to bother someone else. As the son of a ia, Ezra never had any trouble integrating within social groups. He was charismatic, and his unnatural heritage made romance an easy game to play. One foot in, one foot out of the faewild made the boy a particular breed of trouble, retaining his mother's fae beauty but not her inability to lie.
ABILITIES | Charming, and a convincing liar. Has the ability to see unnatural things, and walks very quietly. Has a basic grasp of thaumaturgy.
FUN FACTS | He's addicted to peppermint. Chances are you'll catch him with a packet of mint gum in every coat, bag, or pair of pants he owns. If it's not gum, it's candy. If it's not candy, it's fake menthol cigarettes (that do no harm because it's fiction and slay), mint chocolate, mint cheesecake, everything mint and then some.

STORYBUILDING
IELE
The iele are feminine mythical creatures in Romanian mythology. Often they are described as faeries (zâne in Romanian), with great seductive power over men, with magic skills and attributes similar to nymphs, naiads and dryads found in Greek mythology.
They mostly appear at night by moonlight, as dancing Horas (circle dancing), in secluded areas such as glades, the tops of certain trees (maples, walnut trees), ponds, river sides, crossroads or abandoned fireplaces, dancing naked, with their breasts almost covered by their disheveled hair, with bells on their ankles and carrying candles. In almost all of these instances, the Iele appear to be incorporeal. Rarely, they are dressed in chain mail coats. The place where they had danced would after remain carbonized, with the grass incapable of growing on the trodden ground, and with the leaves of the surrounding trees scorched. Later, when grass would finally grow, it would have a red or dark-green color, the animals would not eat it, but instead mushrooms would thrive on it.
They are not generally considered evil genii: they resort to revenge only when they are provoked, offended, seen while they dance, when people step on the trodden ground left behind by their dance, sleep under a tree which the Iele consider as their property, drink from the springs or wells used by them. Terrible punishments are inflicted upon the ones who refuse their invitation to dance, or the ones who mimic their movements. The one who randomly hears their songs becomes instantly mute. A main characteristic is their beautiful voices which are used to enchant their listeners, just like the Sirens from ancient Greek mythology. Invisible to humans, there are however certain moments when they can be seen by mortals, such as when they dance at night. When this happens, they abduct the victim, punishing the "guilty" one with magical spells, after they previously caused him to fall into sleep with the sounds and the vertigo of the frenetic Hora, which they dance around their victim, who is abducted, to disappear forever without a trace.
STRIGOI
In some parts of rural Romania, strigoi were thought to be living dead that are said to be able to rise at night to pray on the living by draining their life force. They are usually drawn to their old home, and pray on their former family or friends until laid to rest.
The night before St Andrew's Day (29-30 November) is thought to be exceptionally magical in Eastern European folklore, and it's when supernatural beings such as strigoi are thought most likely to be seen.
They are generally believed to be able to:
- rise from the grave at night and return before dawn
- change into animal forms (cats, rats, owls, etc..)
- drain life force from living humans (usually not all at once, but the victim will wither and die if not stopped)
- change weather, bring draught
- steal milk from animals and crops from the fields
Thier weaknesses are:
- they are vulnerable to holy water
- they dislike garlic and it can be placed around a house to keep them at bay
- they can be stopped by having their body taken out of the grave and either burned or having a wooden stake driven through the heart (yes that part was genuine)
Main difference from the vampire myth are:
- strigoi feed on life force ("your soul") and not blood
- being bitten by a strigoi doesn't turn you into one. Strigoi appear as either a result of a peron's evil during their life, or as a result of their mother's sins (in which case they can be saved if the signs that the child is "marked" are seen in time).
