Setting:
Astorel is an Island continent surrounded on all sides by an ocean with multiple Nations held inside. (The scale being that much like the size of Australia) The nations inside include the Human country of Klorelis, a free city consisting of a democratic republic with a large cabinet (3,000) that votes on issues comprised of upper and lower-class citizens that rotate out on a yearly basis. They are located in the prime central of the continent and are surrounded by four other nations which they hold friendly relations with. The secluded elven kingdom Noralith is to their east, the boisterous and mountain fortified dwarven civilization, Gorellon, residing to their west, a desert nomad civilization to their south and to the direct north a heavily fortified mountain ridge that blocks off a treacherous and cold northern region that is almost permanently covered in snow but a place where many beast tribes call home.
Nations:
Klorelis: The human nation of Klorelis is one with relative peace and stability throughout the region, they practice a free religious state with a true adherence to allowing zero religious influence into matters of the government. There are four major religions that dominate the nation. (Religions will be listed later) The nation is a very prosperous, relying on a heavy trade centric economy providing many of the surrounding regions and nations with different supplies and goods due to his prime location in the middle of the continent, not only that but they are able to establish lenient trade taxes and routes ease the burden of taxes on its citizens due to this steady income and hold a very neutral approach to any disputes the surrounding nations may have but still retains a powerful military might consisting of a mostly volunteer force that is well paid and fed. In this country it's seen as a point of honor and pride to do one's service (only mandatory for 2 years once enlisted but many opt to stay longer) most of the time only consisting of guard duties in central cities with patrols to the borders and occasional fortress locations set up around the perimeter of the country. The citizens are very kind and often well-educated with public education being open to all, often learning about the history of the region and its surrounding countries with many citizens even speaking 2-3 languages from an early age. The country is further kept safe by a rather large population of adventurers who reside in the country as there is always a steady supply of jobs for them, monsters are a frequent occurrence, and the military alone isn't able to take care of all the attacks and ailments caused by them, so it isn't uncommon to see multiple parties of adventurers wandering the streets and country roads. With an adventurer's guild in every major city and some smaller ones there's never a wont for help.
While seeming like a veritable utopia much like many civilizations there is always a dark side, slavery is an accepted practice of those who go into debt, criminals and those that are sold into by families in poverty. That being said slaves are treated relatively well however occasionally those from other races will appear, whether captured or landed into unfortunate circumstances it is accepted, nonetheless. There is a black market held in almost every major city and a criminal underbelly though the laws are strict on them, they find a way.
