A General Guideline to Werewolves
Baseline Abilities:
- Increased speed (only in wolf form)
- Increased strength
- Increased senses (both in and out of wolf form)
- Rapid healing
- Improved reflexes
Powers - Only apply to Werewolves born into the Hortensia Line (aka Royal Wolves):
- Water
- Earth
- Wind
- Fire
- Note: Some powers include the ability to control and generate an element, while others are only able to control said element. The ability to generate an element is rare.
Weaknesses:
- Silver burns and can contain a werewolf - if ingested in liquid form, it will kill them
- Wolfsbane - blisters them upon contact, is poisonous if consumed, can kill them if enough is consumed. Wolves don't even like the smell of it as it burns their nose like aerosol acid.
- The full moon - makes them lose control (wild, lack of inhibition) and takes away their ability to reason like sentient creatures
- Can be killed if the injury is severe enough and their bodies can't heal quick enough
Social Structure:
Natures (how a wolf identifies on a dominant-submissive scale):
-
Alpha: Can be male or female -- usually male. Does not have Heats, only Ruts every other month after puberty. Alphas are dominant werewolves who tend to be bigger and stronger in size, more volatile and forceful in temperament and they are always the leaders in any given situation. They are able to influence the wills of others, especially Omegas. Alphas are not as common as Betas, with about 3-in-every-10 wolves born an Alpha, and only 1 of those Alphas born female.
-
Beta: Can be male or female. Can have Heats or Ruts, sometimes neither, and follows the same patterns as Alphas and Omegas for Heat and Rut schedules. Betas are the neutral factors in the wolven world. They provide good buffers between Alphas and are the backbone of werewolf society. They are stable, steady and are considered the 'freest' type of werewolf in the fact that they are not influenced heavily by their natures. Betas are the most common type of werewolf with 5-in-every-10 wolves born as Betas.
-
Omega: Can be male or female -- usually female. Does not have Ruts, only Heats every month after puberty. Omegas are submissive werewolves who tend to be smaller than their Beta and Alpha counterparts. They are quieter and more thoughtful in temperament and make excellent mediators, advisors, and caretakers due to their ability to release pheromones meant to soothe Alpha wolves. Omegas are considered uncommon with only 2-in-every-10 wolves born an Omega - and only .5 of those Omegas born male. Male Omegas are sterile.
Status (the place a werewolf takes in a Pack, and how they identify in society):
-
Dragga: Male Alpha werewolves in positions of command/authority over a pack.
-
Drappa: Female Alpha werewolves in positions of command/authority over a pack.
-
Kafka: Beta or Alpha werewolves (male or female) in positions of second-in-command over a pack. Usually Beta wolves.
-
Renya: Beta wolves (male or female) in Hunter/Warrior/Scout positions in a pack.
-
Sikla: Omega wolves (male or female -- usually female) in positions of Advisor/Healer in a pack
-
Kerl: Lone wolf (male or female - Alpha, Beta or Omega), part of no pack or social structure and shunned.
- Royal Pack rules over all werewolves - all continents, countries and cities
- Noble Packs rule over continents
- Common Packs rule over countries
- Packs rule over cities
Other:
- Werewolves are not immortal but can live to be in the hundreds, the longest a werewolf has lived being around 300 years.
- Werewolves age 1 year for every 3 years that pass in human counting.
- All werewolves desire to be part of a pack as they are social creatures. To be Kerl is the greatest punishment a wolf can endure.
- To intentionally harm a wolf's mate is the greatest crime among werewolves and is punishable by death.
- Male Omega wolves are considered of no value because they are sterile and it is believed they can not provide for a mate. Mate bonds are very rare for a male Omega.
- Mate bonding is the process by which wolves recognize their mate - through touch, scent, sight or sound, sometimes only one, sometimes all or a few. It is unique to every wolf, but unmistakable. The majority of wolves only bond to one person, though, there have been fringe cases of mate bonding to more than one person.
- Mate bonding is optional - it can be accepted or rejected, though, to reject it means a wolf can never bond with another (unless in extremely rare cases). There is one (in the rare cases two) mate bond for every wolf. If they choose not to go through with it, they can never have that connection with anyone again.
- Mate bonding among Royalty and Nobility is only encouraged with Royalty and Nobility. To mate bond with a commoner is not expressly forbidden to the Nobility, though it is heavily discouraged, but it is to Royalty with the punishment being death or banishment.
