At first, the man was going to kill Destiny so that his precious student wouldn't get in trouble, but he couldn't do it when he finally looked into Destiny's eyes. So, he raised the girl as his daughter while hiding the truth of her birth and family from her until she learned everything that he could teach her. They had a small falling out when the truth came to light, but they reconnected since they're the only family each other has.

The two met when the details of her birth were revealed to the higher-ups. At first, they couldn't stand each other as Rengoku would blame her for everything her father had done, while Destiny couldn't stand his higher-than-thou personality. But, everything changed when she saved the Flame Hashira from a life-threatening attack. When she was in a coma recovering from her injuries, Rengoku would visit, and during one of his visits, he met Destiny's mentor, who explained everything to Rengoku. When Destiny awoke, she was greeted by Rengoku, asking to start over, and they became close. However, it wasn't a year later that Rengoku asked to court her, which she accepted.
Shinobu Kocho
The two met when Shinobu wanted to test Destiny's demon side to see if there were any differences between full demons and halflings. They became close as Shinobu saw that Destiny wasn't the monster that everyone expected her to be. The insect hashira realized her feelings for the halfling after witnessing Destiny's demon side take over due to the lack of blood intake she needed to keep the demon inside of her controlled; she stayed by Destiny's side as she was forced to chain the halfling in the sun to stop the demon. Once Destiny returned to normal, Shinobu was the only one to tend to her as she was scared that she might lose her halfling crush. It wasn't long after that Destiny began dating Shinobu.

Destiny was born out of a union of a Demon slayer who was desperate to have children and a cunning demon king who took advantage of that information. But, when her mother found out that her lover was Muzan and the father of her unborn child, Destiny's mother knew she had to get rid of the child as it went against every oath she took as a Demon Slayer. By the time Destiny arrived, her mother had planned out her murder and abandonment until her mentor fell in love with the child and decided to raise it. During her childhood, her mother would check on the girl but tried to keep her distant which Destiny returned the favor. When the truth came to light the night before Destiny left for the Demon Slayer entrance exam, as her mentor couldn't live with himself if she didn't know before leaving, to say that the young woman was hurt would be an understatement. So like any hurt child, Destiny left in the middle of the night without as much as leaving a letter to her mentor, and they didn't speak for many months after she passed the exam. But, the father and daughter returned to speaking terms when Destiny reached out to him first.
Thanks to her half demon heritage, they're not on par with a fully turned demon. Destiny has enhanced healing, speed, and smell but compared to full demons it would take her days to weeks to heal completely from life-threatening injuries, while humans might die or take months to recover. Since she's a halfling, Destiny can go out in the sunlight for short periods of time, but she would get rashes and boils from the sunlight as if she was dragged through hot coal, so she carries an umbrella to keep from looking awful all the time.
Halflings need to have controlled blood. Otherwise, their demon side would take over. But, Destiny hates it and often holds back on it as she doesn't want to be labeled a monster. Sadly, this would cause her to go into a blood frenzy if she skips more than twelve controlled blood meals, and everything with a beating heart is food in her eyes during that point. The only way to stop her in her blood frenzy state is to put her in sunlight until the demon side of her passes out. You must chain her down until the sun is in the sky if it happens during the night.
