I have been roleplaying on and off seems like forever.

I don't do systems. I don't do stats. The last time I tried them it ended up in a metaphorical flute measuring contest, most everyone argued over one particular stat or another. That was literally the worst week of my life RPG wise.

I only do freeform RPGs now.

Welcome to I.S. Vasara, It sounds like you had a bad table top experience that's really to bad, most games don't end up like that. Rule Monkey's as they are called have become something of a meme and are not nearly as common as they were say 10 years ago. The system is just to easy to understand now. Still freeform is very fun also, and there are lots of authors looking for people to write with, I wish you the best and hope you have fun.
