I am looking for a fantasy role play that starts at a tavern id like to build a story. Not really sure if there are chat rooms here, or if this is all done by forum posts.

Why thank you. So since they are all forum posts, do you simply write something descriptive to the forum and just see who responds and can everyone see the responses from multiple people or do you end up in private mini Rps?

Typically, you post a request thread, get interested parties, then start a thread. Only pre-selected people are supposed to post in your thread, but anyone can read them. There's also a SubForum for Open RPs, where anyone can hop in, so you could post an initial post with the description of your game and what you're looking for, then just see who joins.

I'd advise you to check out the New User Guide.

I used to run the odd tavern based free for all rpg on other forums.

Probably want this in "Unfinished Tales" since that's the open forum, if your open to characters coming and going.

I had a write up for something similar including small group quests, possibly building to a longer adventure.
But like any good tavern it needed regular staffing and a little more DMing than I was available to give at the time.

Same here. I even had most of the bar described in detail.
