The World
tmp764240960296058881.jpg

This world is remarkably similar to the world we live in today. It is governed by the same rules and properties of our world. History has followed the same course, minus covid-19. What separates this world from our own, is the veil of shadows and the creatures that live within it.

The Veil
OIP.jpg
The Veil is a metaphor for the other world. This shadowy realm lies over top of our own. Within the veil, the truth of the world can be seen. The Veil was created in the time of the Gods and has always been there. Designed and set up to protect the world of man.

Within The Veil, the world becomes muted. Colors are less vibrant, shadows are darker, and all manner of creatures live. From ghost to mythological beast. The Veil is a perfect reflection of the world beyond it. While some damage, typically minor in nature can be repaired automatically by the Veil, extreme damage like a building falling down will impact the world beyond it. This is why some buildings will unexpectedly collapse. Or a car will suddenly veer off the road and crash. Trees will uproot or fall and so on. Most damage can and is automatically repaired before it impacts the world outside it, but extreme damage will always bleed through. Thankfully, humans have gotten very good at explaining away unexpected events with their science.

Entering and exiting the veil can be done by a demi-god at any time. However, creatures of The Veil such as mythological beasts are bound to it and cannot leave The Veil without the assistance of the gods or the demi-gods. Many of the myths and monsters that plague human horror films and mythological stories. Were, or, are creatures who made it out of the veil and caused untold havoc. Even their vampires while misunderstood are a type of creature from the veil itself.

Within The Veil, all living creatures outside it, moving objects such as cars, and so on, appear as ghostly shapes. Very similar to how the real world might perceive a ghost. The two worlds cannot interact with one another typically. So within The Veil seeing a ghostly car driving directly at you would be no danger at all as it would drive through you without incident. The same is true for people and other moving or living objects. It is possible to see outside The Veil from within it, but it is not possible to see from the outside in. Normally.

The Laws of the Veil
fotolia-61356918-scales-of-justice-2.jpg

When the Gods created The Veil, they did so because they felt their powers beginning to wane. With the rise of western Gods, the Greek Pantheons knew something had to be done and together they created The Veil of the world. Once it was created, they set forth the laws of The Veil.

  • No mythological creature shall walk the realms of man and will remain within The Veil.
  • No Demi-God or God shall interfere with the realm of men and will restrict their powers to The Veil.
  • No God may interfere with The Veil or alter it.
  • No Human may enter The Veil of its own volition.
  • No demi-god or God will reveal the truth of The Veil to mortals.
While these simple laws were set in stone and bound by blood. They knew in their wisdom that others would seek to subvert their laws. As such, they created the Guardians and vowed to punish any who dare to violate these laws.

Since that time, The Veil has remained intact. Those who have violated the laws set forth by the gods have been severely punished or openly removed from the realm of mortals never to return again. For the Gods are mighty and unforgiving.

The War!
R.jpg

As the fall of the Gods became inevitable and the rise of heroes also ended. The greater Gods of the Greeks. Made one final declaration, to assure they would not be forgotten. It has been said that the last faction standing and the pantheon that they represent will be restored to power and allowed to rule over mankind once more. Zeus himself agreed that he would stand down and turn over the mortal realm to the God whose faction stood at the end.

Like most things the Gods did, this declaration was exactly what it appeared to be. Even Zeus took part in the great war. But it could not be waged by the Gods themselves, nor their great heroes. Instead, it would be waged by those who shared their bloodline. Being born of humans and God.

With this, the Gods vanished from the realm of man. While they watch over the Veil and walk among the humans all Gods are hidden from their descendants and forbidden to interact with them. Though it is believed that they very much do interact with their offspring. It would be punishable if they did so openly, and it was wildly known as this would result in a breach of the blood oath and have them banished from the war.

Gods who are banished from the war are forbidden from interacting with the human world in any way. Their entire bloodline down to the smallest pin drop of blood will be removed from the realm of mortals. Because of this extreme threat, it would be exceedingly rare for a God to interfere at all in anything and instead they rely on their bloodline to do it. That does not mean that they are not secretly influencing their spawn to take certain actions.

Demi-Gods!
R (1).jpg

These creatures are defined as half-mortal, and half-god and are the primary weapon used to wage war in The Veil. They belong not only to the earth but to the gods and represent the God that bore them.

Demi-Gods are immensely powerful and have various qualities some virtuous others dark and disastrous. Each Demi-God possesses exceptional abilities and powers.

All demi-gods gain…
Heightened Senses: Untrained this would appear to be Perfect Sight, Perfect Hearing, Perfect Smell. Trained, however, this ability will allow a demi-god to detect sounds double the distance of a normal human with extreme precision. They would gain low light vision allowing them to see more easily in the dark, (Or Veil.) and see almost twice the distance of a human. Their smell can become so acute they can accurately detect scents equivalent to a dog.

Increased Healing: All Demi-Gods have an improved healing rate. Untrained they might appear as a lucky human who never gets hurt, or sick. But Trained a Demi-Human could recover from a gunshot wound in a few hours. This ability is so powerful that it will openly prevent a Demi-God from dying unless a special weapon is used to end their life. While this does not include regeneration it would include the reattachment of lost limbs. So, if a Demi-God was cut into pieces those pieces would live, and once brought back together reassemble, attach and shape the Demi-God. While this would take many years it does prevent their death by mortal means.

Slower Aging: Demi-Gods Age incredibly slow, for every three years a single year for a demi-god will pass. This is true from birth and requires no training to work. Because there are some humans who are unaware they share the blood of a god the humans have even used their science to explain why a twenty-five-year-old might look twelve. This is called Fabry Disease. For humans, it is a rare genetic deficiency.

Additionally, they are gifted two to three additional powers unique to their chosen pantheon.

Weapons of War!
ancient-greek-weapons-pack-3d-model-low-poly-obj-3ds-fbx-c4d-unitypackage-removebg-preview.png

There are as many godly gifted items as there are gods if not more. The most common weapons for the war are spears, swords, and armor or shields. Any item or weapon will work but it must be blessed by a god. Which rules out Guns. Without these weapons, it is not possible to end the life of a demi-god or hurt a god and or the mythological creatures within The Veil.

GOOD & EVIL
R (2).jpg

The moral ambiguity of good and evil is very blurred when it comes to the Greek gods and the war of the veil is no exception. Gods act on their own desires and their factions reflect those desires. While some gods and their factions have chosen to form an alliance with others. There can only be one faction at the end and because of this no faction but your own should be trusted. So there is no clear-cut good and evil in this war.
