Under the Sea
Dark, so dark the past
That I fumbled and stumbled
Through mistakes and pain
'Til down my soul tumbled.
To loneliness and pain
And safety in solitude
That tormented as it protected
From monsters or memories resurrected.

A soothing star here.
A guiding star there.
Just enough light to drag myself
Away from the depths
Of despair and of pain
With my shattered remains.
Step by step,
Stitch by painful stitch
I brought my scattered pieces
Back together once again.

And then

A constellation.
Bright and brilliant and warm
Enveloping me, a star to either side,
And I was a part of it,
No longer staring with longing
Into the distance at others
But in it and belonging
In the way I'd only dreamed.

Dark no longer,
My future bright,
Each day a beginning anew
In part thanks to the constellation of you.
