(My first ever submission to one of these, hope you enjoy!)

Kane wiped the sweat from his eyes and readied himself for the next blow, sunlight dancing along the edge of his opponent's blade as it arced down towards him in an overhead attack.
The clang of steel hitting steel reverberated around the battlefield as he parried the strike, deflecting the sword with his own and allowing most of the force to travel past him as he stepped into his opponent's guard.

Both participants moved with deadly grace, their strikes and parries timed with precision and speed, each man reacting to the other's movements with lithe agility in the battlefields cruel parody of a dance.

"Parry... thrust... deflect... keep an eye on your footwork."

Kane chanted those words like an internal mantra, his mind blocking out everything except his small patch of the battlefield as he stepped back, narrowly avoiding the tip of his opponent's blade as he struggled to keep his footing in the muddy ground below.

"Bastard!" the other man croaked, his voice hoarse and rough as he drew back for another thrust, forcing Kane to concede ground once more.
The two opponents were each wearing plate armour, the heavy steel suits lending them unparalleled protection compared to the average soldier... but after hours of fighting under the blazing sun, Kane could feel his body tiring with each swing of his sword... and the heat!
Gods above, he would kill for a simple flask of water... but there would be no such comfort until the battle had ended.

"All the more reason to end this fight quickly then." He thought, his mind calm despite the situation... he would not die here today, of that he was convinced.
"Not in a dammed border skirmish... hell, image what Abel would say if I fell here."

This was no time to be thinking about his sodding brother though, he needed to focus on his opponent.
With a growl, Kane threw himself forwards, his body screaming as he forced it to use every last ounce of energy it had left.

"Thrust... sweep his legs... overhead blow..."

The other knight parried, but only barely... for he too was running out of stamina.
Kane could sense it, and so he pressed the attack even harder in an effort to fool his opponent into thinking that he was still fresh... it was a bluff that seemed to be working.
Suddenly the other knight began to take a more defensive stance, and that was a deadly mistake.

"Fool..." he thought with a grim smile as he aimed blow after blow towards his enemy, allowing him to do nothing but deflect and parry... Kane was now in command of this fight.
And once a fighter surrendered the initiative to his opponent...
Kane saw his foe stumble and seized his chance, swinging with all of his might at the knights exposed leg... steel tore through his flesh and bone and an audible "Crack" sounded as Kane's sword broke the other man's knee.

And just like that, their dance was over.

Kane watched as his opponent fell to the ground, the mans armour stained with blood and mud as he clutched at his mangled limb.

Kane sighed and tore at the straps that held his helmet in place, desperate to be rid of his steel cage for a moment as he kicked the enemy knights sword away, denying him any last-ditch attempt at revenge.

"You fought well my Lord..."

He croaked wearily as he raised his sword one final time,

"You!..."
but the man was cut off before he could finish... quite literally.

Kane bent down beside the still twitching corpse and retrieved its severed head... once the enemy saw that their Lord had been defeated they would be sure to withdraw. The day was won, and Kane would live to kill again.

"And all this for a few miles of land..." He muttered, his grin weary as he staggered towards the enemies battle lines, a crimson trail forming behind him as he cradled his gory prize.
