My Beginning

Many a tale is told through the mouths of generations; mortals pass their stories from elders to descendants, sharing fleeting moments of tenderness in the brief glow of their existence. In that way, I envy them. How much more value do they hold in their intimacy when there is a predetermined conclusion to their time in this world? When I was a foolish young goddess, I befriended many beings whom I knew would perish in time, and I would simply go on once they were gone, left with only the memory to hold on to like wisps of smoke from a dying fire in the wind.

But I digress. Instead of reused words that have been spoken for generations, why not hear a tale directly from the subject?

I do not know how long I slept before the light of Creation woke me. I cannot speak to whether or not Creation was benevolent or duplicitous in Its plan for Man. Were such intelligent creatures not cursed with their thirst for knowledge, be it moral or questionable in attainability? But it was not my place to ask such questions, Creation told me; I was to be the Goddess of Wanderers, protector of souls in search. It would be my duty to guide them on their journeys, at times to a destiny they had not intended. Creation whispered in my ear that I would be endowed with gifts of Justice, Mercy, Compassion, Curiosity, and Fortitude. I was to use these gifts in my endless quest to lead wanderers to their destined path.

I was strangely at peace with the task I had been assigned. It was no great difficulty grasping the weight of my role; at my hand, a wanderer could come to their demise or flourish. But I could see a potential for beauty, as well. I could guide souls to happiness at the end of their trek. I could craft stories of harrowing triumphs for the mortals to bring back to their villages and loved ones. Certainly, I had the power to end lives and create heartache and catastrophe, but I instead had the desire to create stories of glamour, mystery, victory, and joy. Yes, I thought, that is the mould I wish to set for myself.

And with that thought, I felt the surge of Prophecy wash over me. Creation had had the wisdom to withhold this gift until I had accepted my responsibilities. But I was not to use this gift like an Oracle, giving predictions to the mortals as though I were a soothsayer, Creation told me. No, I was to use this gift to paint the journey as I saw fit to better steer the mortals towards their goal. Fall a tree to block the path that would only lead to suffering; create a misfortune, such as a broken wagon wheel, to stop the tradesman from being ambushed by thieves lurking in dark forests; foresee a great blaze and set the journeyers in a safer direction, perhaps by waking the most squeamish with a spider on their cheek. Yes, Creation whispered, just as you desired. The power to weave legends now lies in your hands.

I was a young goddess then. I could not perceive that which Creation had labeled as a gift, was in all truth a curse.

Hello, Traveler! Truth be told, I'm completely new to the whole concept of roleplaying, but I've been writing short stories based on my vivid dreams since I was in middle school. I work 10-hour shifts and am frequently away from my computer, but I will try to check in at least once/day. I am in the early workings of developing the Calixte character, and I figure the best way to kick off a concept character is with a tale of a love interest! I'm thinking a young adult mortal male on a journey, someone who would blend into the crowd if you didn't scrutinize but also had something remarkable about him to set him apart. This is what I imagine will capture Calixte's attention as a novice shepherd of wanderers. I am fine to write of brief violence and sexuality, but I mostly aim to create legends and adventures of my own gods and goddesses, mirroring those of the Ancient Greek and Roman pantheons. I think in the future I will develop my very own pantheon of Calixte's family, mostly consisting of siblings and neices/nephews. I have a hard time imagining Calixte with children, as her heart is pulled over and over to new love interests, because dying is what mortals do and my girl's gotta go on existing.

Feel free to message if you're interested, I'm excited to share creativity!
