Introduction
Hello there! This title post will act somewhat of an appendix with brief summaries to get to where you want to go! I am new to forum posting and might have to work out some details but expect this title post to receive many and extensive edits as detailed comments are added. All original species mentioned are considered "open species." If you've never heard the term, that means you can make your own and I encourage it greatly. You don't even have to ask, but I would love to see it and can answer any questions if you find yourself interested.

This is a sci-fi universe set in our very own Milky Way, telling stories of an overwhelming military force reaching the limits of its ability to control, and the opposing powers that have risen up, although lagging behind in might, are holding on in the face of being crushed- or perhaps eaten. Human kind is scattered throughout the universe with some alternate history as to how they got in space as well as so wide-spread, but do not play a huge meaningful role as a whole. Rather, they have simply found themselves in many places and only sometimes individuals rise to important standings rather than a whole government backed force.

Bitamul and The Ascendancy
Mighty, plentiful, hungry.

Bitamul are a tarry-blooded species that have found themselves spoiled with power and control over swathes of their local cluster, to the point where the control from the governmental body, The Ascendancy as it calls itself, is slipping at the edges. The species as a whole typically finds itself wanting to lord over something, be it entire nations or simply a pet, it varies by individual, and usually causes conflicts that almost always end in blood. They are known for beastial strength, short tempers, shapeshifting, and worst of all, being obligate carnivores with loose ideas on what kinds of meat is and isn't okay to eat...
Their rise in the galaxy is a well told history to remind of them of their roots, what makes them strong:

History of The Seprinira
Near the edge of death.

Seprinira are a cephalopod-like and very nearly extinct species that once found themselves in the same position as Bitamul, but found folly in attacking that very species to spread their own influence. Instead of another world to conquer, they found themselves overpowered, infiltrated and... delicious. So much so, their technology was stolen, used against them, and they were hunted to near extinction by Bitamul kind. Very few remain in secluded pockets of the universe away from Bitamul space.

The Aegarsi Matriarchy
A society split between thinkers and warriors.

Aegarsi are somewhat goat like in appearance, humanoid, and have extreme sexual dimorphism that splits the sexes into entirely different worlds. Women are huge, strong, and aggressive, whereas men are small, and usually must excel using their brains to be taken seriously amongst the much more dominant women. Because of this split in focus, they make a formidable technocracy where women are warriors and are backed up by the minds of their much smaller technical companions. They find themselves a galactic power strong enough to dissuade a full scale Bitamul invasion, but wisely do not want to stoke the fires of a furnace prone to lashing out.

And the many more I have yet to add or meaningfully develop
I will focus on commenting more in depth versions of the above, and as stated before, edit this post as needed.
