Harek sat at the bar, cleaning it once again. There were no customers tonight; it had been three or four days since any had been seen. This was expected, of course; it was the early months, and the wealthy didn’t like to go hunting in the spring here. They went to other places with bigger or more exotic game. It was on days like these that Harek couldn’t help but think of the past. Back to the days when he hunted and adventured with the others. Cyder, Aiden, Phaedra, Sparky, Victoria, Crystal, and…...Delilah. How many years had it been since Marok died and left his Inn to Delilah. Of course, she was not ready to retire and was going to let someone else take it over, but Harek was ready. Of course, they argued about it. The two argued over everything, and the others, Cyder, even took bets on it from time to time. In the end, Harek had won out, though Delilah retained ownership of the Inn, but Harek would run it and turn it into Delilah’s personal safe house; however, both of them had lied to each other. They both intended to make it their home.
For the next ten years, Harek spent most of his personal wealth and some of Delilah’s when she would part with some of her loot, fixing and upgrading the tavern to their preference. Of course, slowly, the crew had begun to part ways; some of them even visited from time to time. The nights Cyder visited and cooked had been some of the best earning nights, and when Phaedra came by, Sparky, now a massive dragon, would take people for rides, and the kids loved it. Sadly, Delilah came less and less over the last ten years. Harek feared that she did not feel the way she used to, and he was just keeping a safe house for her emergency. Still, though she was the shadow of his eye and he would wait for her, that was when the figure in robes of pure white entered the Inn.
“Good morning Sir, would you like to hear about our special today?” the figure in the robes shook its head before speaking, “No good hunter, I am here not for your Inn but for you.” the priest of Bahamut went on to explain that his order required Harek to seek out delilah as she had stolen a relic of their order and they desperately wanted it back as they were to perform a ritual to speak to their god. They were more than willing to forgive her, but only if she returned the relic as soon as possible. Harek knew Delilah had taken some risky jobs, but this seemed like something she would not have done. At least not before. He had thought he had reformed her at least to a small extent. Last, he had known she only took jobs to go steal from evil organizations. a priesthood of Bahamut was not evil. Furthermore, this priest had an odd air to him, and his senses were tingling. Regardless, it was clear that Delilah was in danger, and sadly, all of their friends were out of reach. Closing his eyes, Harek knew that he was the only one who could go and find her safely. “Ok, I will find my old comrade and get back your relic. Where is she now?” the priest informed Harek that her last known location was Waterdeep, and so Harek found himself on the trail to Waterdeep in his full gear.
A week and a half later, Harek walked into Waterdeep. It was a long road, and he hadn’t made it in quite the same time as he used to. That said, he knew the first place he would visit and begin his search for Delilah. Trudging his way down the streets, Harek stopped at the nearest brew galaxy, which also happened to be the first brew galaxy he had ever visited with Delilah and their friends. He could still remember the look on Cyder’s face as he crawled out of the cafe, a look of pure horror on his face after being subjected to their now-famous singing. Entering, he made sure to keep to the best advice he was ever given. He got his pastry and juice and got out before they could start. Even after all these years, he still hated their coffee, but even now, he had to admit the juice and pastries were not bad. His next stop was the local Inn; unlike their first trip here, he was not broke and only able to stay at a hostel. Putting away his gear and going downstairs to get some food, Harek was happy to get some stew and ale. The prancing pony was always a great place for him to lay his head to rest, and he was sure that he would need his rest on this hunt.
Returning to his room, he found exactly what he was expecting. There was a note on his table held by a small knife. It was not a long message, just a few words -Harek go home-, so she was aware he was in town. Even though it was barely midday, Harek went to bed as he was in for one hell of a long night. Waking just before sun, down harek went out into the fading light searching for all the rogue dens he could find. After so many years, they all knew who he was and who he had been partners with. One and all their lips were shut, and they would not tell him where she was or where she was staying. It was as he was leaving that two arrows hit his left pauldron and clattered to the ground. The meaning was clear. A second warning to leave town, looking up into the night, Harek spoke loudly, “I will not be deterred so easily, my love, come out and talk.” Another arrow pinged off his knee guard. “No, Harek, I won't come out. I know you were hired by those priests to hunt me down, and I won't be hunted by my own lover. Get out of town, or I will end you.” Harek stood his ground and looked up at where he was sure she was lying in wait. “Fine! Then we do this!” A small explosion sent him off to the side and knocked him to the ground. “shit,” was all he could get out before he was forced to run. He wasn’t sure exactly what she was throwing, but it was doing a fair amount of damage, so he needed to run. She was clearly prepared for him and knew exactly how much he could take and keep going.
Soon enough, Harek’s armor was in tatters, and his shirt was torn in many places. The explosives had taken their toll on alleys and streets. Finally, Harek found himself at the end of a dead end, out of breath. Having made a wrong turn or perhaps lead to this ally, harek was cornered for sure as Delilah clad in her night black leather armor stepped out of the shadows to the middle of the Ally playing with a dagger in her hand. “well well what an interesting turn of events, this is the same ally you cornered me in all those years ago my love” as it turned out this did look fermilar to harek. Harek wheezed as he knew he was the hunted in this situation. “delilah just talk to me please.” delilah smiled and paced slowly toward harek a grin on her face. “we are talking, notice my dagger not in your throat yet, it is pointless though I know your here for me and I’ve never surrendered to you” she says with a wink. Harek's mind could not help but wander to all the nights they spent together and every one she led, taking control and only allowing him to lead when he forced himself over her, even then not for long, as she would quickly retake her dominance. It was while he was distracted that she struck.
Hitting him quickly, Delilah pushed Harek to the wall and thrust her dagger at his exposed chest. Barely moving in time, his chest barely got by with a large gash across his chest. Responding on instinct, the Harek began to fight back, throwing punches and trying to grapple as best he could against his love, who was trying to end him, assuming he was trying to do the same. He could not draw his great sword as his back was to the wall, and he just did not have the room. Finally, grabbing her by the arm and got her into a grapple. “I’m here to help you, Delilah, not hunt you!” Getting her foot behind his leg, Delilah tripped Harek and rode him to the ground with a thump as his head crashed through an old crate. Delilah smirked as her dagger found his neck. “well I always said you had a hard head dear.” looking down delilah found something pressed to her inner thigh. “oh harek is this really the time for that” she said with deep grin. “well I did learn from the best my little shadow” harek wheezed pressing the dagger to her artery a little more. It would not take much now to pierce her skin and sever the artery. “My lady, please, I am here to help you. They sought me out, but something was off. Trust me for once in your life,” her hair falling to curtain his he. Delilahah leaned close to his face, her breath hot on his lip. “How can I…” She was cut off as Harek pushed up with his hip and flipped them so now he was atop her. Without a missed moment, he leaned down and kissed her full and passionately. Her dagger bit his neck slightly, but soon fell away as her hands found his and entwined their fingers. Without warning, she bit his lip, drawing blood, and in return, he pressed himself harder against her.
Fade to black
Some time later, the two sat against the wall, sweating and winded. Harek’s head against hers he whispered “they said they were from the priesthood of bahamut but id sell my dagger if they really were.” holding up his dagger delilah spoke softly “you kept it” harek smiled “of course you gave it to me after we buried my fathers knife and my mothers ax I would not leave without it.” a rare smile a real one crossed Delilah’s face before turning to a grim frown. “they are not of Bahamut they are Tiamots ilk and kin. They want to bring her up from Avernus.” Delilah's frown spread to Harek. “Well,l we can not allow that. It’s just us though our friends are too far away to help us and I do not think we can get a party quickly.” both of them getting up slowly delilah laughed and spoke up “honestly between the two of us I think we can do just fine by ourselves. Well unless they have a dragon.” at that the two set out to go stop a cult of tiamot. The new adventure begins.
