The World

The year is 1990, The Gulf War just started and wouldn't end until February of 1991.
Public education had just started a mass drive for safe sex to curb the HIV that was beginning to spread rapidly.
The generation typically referred to as Generation X had an explosion in styles and types of music. These included Grunge, Hip-Hop, Goth, Post-Rock, and Trance.
Rising in popularity were satellite and cable television and the internet.
Video game popularity exploded due to the development of CD-ROM, 3d computer graphics, the Sony Playstation, Nintendo 64, and PCs.
Advanced technology such as the World Wide Web was evolving faster than government agencies were able to keep up with it. The Dark Web wasn't yet created because most websites were not monitored by the government at this time. As such a great number of illegal activities openly took place for all to see if one knew were to look.
Nasdaq and the US stock market started to trade online.

Benedetti Family
R-removebg-preview.png

The Benedetti family has ties to the New York City Mob, which included the commission of the five families. Gambino, Genovese, Lucchese, Colombo, and Bonanno.

The Benedetti got its start in the 1950s when they were given the right to start their own family in New Jersey. Like all families, all members were required to be Italian or Sicilian.

The family's illegal activities were extensive and included but were not limited to. Cargo theft, fraud, robbery, kidnapping, protection rackets, drugs, prostitution, loansharking, gambling. It is believed they conduct additional criminal activities, such as fixing sporting events, and black-market trading.

Their influence includes bribing of judges, juries, government offices, prosecutions, police, and even the FBI, The criminal family has a hierarchical structure with different ranks and roles.

Ranks
Mafia-ranks-ganglandgazette.png
Boss = The undisputed leader of a family gets a share of all profits, and makes family-wide decisions.
Underboss = The second-in-command within the family and 'heir' to the Boss position.
Consigliere = The Boss's closest advisor.
Caporegime = The head of a crew of soldiers and associates, responsible for criminal activities.
Soldier = A member of the Mafia family who carries out the orders of the Caporegime.
Associate = A person who is not a member of the family but works for them.

Rules
Rules-BI1.jpg
Strict rules have been set in place to help maintain control within the family.
  • No one can present themselves directly to another family member. There must be a third person to do it.
(If you don't know someone of higher status, you must be introduced to them by someone who will stand for you. This makes that person responsible for your conduct and behavior.)
  • Never look at the wives of your family.
(Very simple, Wives of the family are off limits. To interact with them inappropriately is to betray the family.)
  • No association with cops/authority figures.
(Don't make friends with cops, and don't associate with cops and or authority figures, even bribery is done as business, not as friends.)
  • Don't go to clubs/pubs owned by other families.
(You are not a representative of the family who can speak for the family. Entering into another family's territory is unacceptable unless invited.)
  • Always be available for the family and your duty.
(This takes precedence over everything in your life, even if your wife is about to give birth. The family comes first, always.)
  • Appointments must be respected.
(When you say you're going to do something you do it. This relates to the value of your word. A man's word is everything.)
  • Wives must be treated with respect.
(What happens behind closed doors is your business, in public or family affairs wives are to always be treated with respect. Boys don't get to play with grown-man toys.)
  • When asked for information, the answer must be the truth.
(Never lie to the family. You lie when you're afraid.)
  • Money cannot be appropriated if it belongs to others or to other families.
(Keep it simple, worry about your own finances.)
  • People cannot be part of the family if they have relatives in the police or relatives of someone who behaves badly and does not hold moral values.
(You are responsible for the association of your immediate family. If they are making bad choices it puts the entire family at risk. Because of this, they will not be accepted into the family. Who you associate with and who your family is matters.)
These rules are not set in stone, there are exceptions, and these rules have been broken before. Typically, the rules are used as guidelines of how one should act and behave. It is up to the family to decide how strictly they want to enforce these rules.

Women in the Mafia.

There are no rules indicating that a woman cannot be in the Mafia, it is just not typically seen or portrayed in movies and series. In 2009 a growing number of women held executive roles. In Naples, Italy, this was so common that even the newspapers reported that mob families were starting to be run by women. It took the states longer to accept and while most families within the states are still male-organized, there is nothing preventing a woman from being a member of the family. Typically, women take up stronger roles when they become widows or are wives to husbands who have been put in prison, acting as a go-between others and their husbands.
