Years ago, in order to stop the vampire from preying on the village a young woman named Lehna Morshall offered herself to him. In exchange for him feeding exclusively from her he wouldn't kill anyone in the village. At first he allowed her to follow through with this, but something about her presence started to change the vampire's small world. Marcus Graves had largely spent a lot of his vampiric life alone, his books, his paintings, and his music were his constant companions. There were the ravens and the hell hounds but those were servants of his rather than friends. Lehna brought a bit of sunshine into his world that he hadn't even realized that it was something he could have.

The day she showed up with her fiery red hair and beautiful blue eyes, freckles splashed across her cheeks like the stars in the sky. But he didn't appreciate her beauty at first, she was just a silly human who didn't know what she was agreeing to, the weight of what she promised him. In truth he didn't expect too much from her as she dusted and cleaned around the house when she felt the need to, she'd always sing or hum when cleaned or when she would cook for herself. His music had brought life to the house but her singing and her presence slowly became the heartbeat in his chest that had stopped the day that he was turned. When he would play his piano she would make it a point to come in and dance along with the music. His eyes would watch her as her dress flared out with her turns, the way she seemed to move like water along with the music.

The one day he was watching her dance along with his music that he played he suddenly stopped and looked at her. It took a moment for her to stop dancing as she then looked at him, concern crossing her face. "Is everything okay?"

Marcus' almost clear blue eyes looked at her before he then looked back at the piano keys, his fingers refusing to move. "Is it possible for someone to love a monster?"

"What do you mean?" She asked curiously as she sat down next to him on the piano bench.

"Is it possible for someone to love me? A monster." He clarified, his voice tense and strained, his eyes not leaving his hands that hovered over the keys.

He watched as her peach colored hand covered his pale thin hand, the warmth spreading from her hand to his cold dead hand. "I don't think you're a monster, Marcus. I think you've been alone for so long that you've forgotten what love is. It doesn't surprise me that you'd think that you're a monster, with how the villagers talk about you, even when you don't kill them. But I didn't believe those stories, I saw what was underneath that, someone who was alone and hurting."

Marcus looked into her beautiful sky blue eyes, she was smiling and that seemed to spread up to her eyes. "Do you love me?" He asked her.

"More than anything. I love you Marcus Graves, with every bit of my heart and soul." She reached up and cupped his cheek with her other hand, her thumb lightly stroking over his cheek.

"I... I love you too." Marcus said softly, closing his eyes as he seemed to melt into her touch, how long had it been since he had received such affection?

"See, you just need to be loved, to be touched, I hope that you'll see yourself as I see you right now." Lehna smiled at him.

"How is that?"

"A man, an immortal man who saw his long eternity without anyone else in it, that emptiness eating away at him. But at the end of the day still a man, someone who is as deserving of love, affection, and care as anyone else." Lehna explained, her smile bright as she continued to stroke his cheek with her thumb. "Can I kiss you Marcus?"

His voice caught in his throat before he managed a small, "Yes." She gently pulled his face towards hers and their lips met for the first time. The warmth from her lips spread to his very quickly, it was almost intoxicating. They remained pressed together for a long moment.

When the pulled apart she glanced to the window, "It looks like day is about to break. You'll be going to your chambers, will you not?"

He felt dazed from the kiss, "Yes..."

"May I join you?" She asked softly.

"Yes..." He felt even dizzier at the thought.

"Go to your room, I need to change into my bed clothes, I'll join you shortly." Marcus watched as she got up and walked through the door, was he feeling nervous? He a vampire with several hundred years of unlife under his belt was nervous?

He got up from his seat and then walked to his chambers. He changed into his own bed clothes, he could feel the butterflies in his belly. He knew if he were mortal his heart would be racing like the thoughts that were going through his mind. Marcus braided his long black hair as he normally did before bed, he waited a while but closed up the heavy curtains to keep out the sun and climbed into his bed. Part of him thought that she wouldn't be joining him but he heard his door creak open and click shut. He felt the bed shift as Lehna climbed in next to him under the covers. Already her presence warmed the bed and his body almost felt like it was alive again. More alive than when he fed from her.

"I didn't think you were actually going to come." Marcus said a little shocked.

"I just wanted to make sure that I was really ready for bed." She smiled at him, her body encroaching closer to his until they were pressed firmly against one another. He almost felt human again if it weren't for the absence of his heart. "Can we make love, Marcus?" Lehna asked as her hand gently touched his cheek.

"I... I don't want to hurt you." Marcus replied, the worry in his voice and face as he looked upon her visage.

"You can never hurt me, your love will keep you from truly hurting me." There was an unshakable confidence in how she spoke to him.

Marcus nodded, "Then yes..." He told her, his lips meeting hers, passion flaring up between them.

The first time that they made love was gently and sweet. Each one of them taking the time to appreciate each other's bodies, tending to every want and need, lingering on the things that gave them the most pleasure. Limbs entangling with each other, their voices mingling with each other as they expressed the ecstasy they were experiencing from each other. Bodies quivering, shaking, arching into each other, hands on each other, limbs embracing the other to keep them close. It was hard to say when they finally stopped to sleep, but Lehna fell asleep wrapped tightly in Marcus' cold embrace. Despite the chill of his body she seemed to produce more than enough warmth for the both of them.

When they awoke that evening, Lehna was gently stroking his cheek. "That was a lovely sleep, I'd love to do this again when we go to bed."

"We could do this forever. I love you so much Lehna Morshall, let me embrace you, let me make you immortal like I am so we could do this for the rest of eternity." Marcus said to her.

"I couldn't accept that gift Marcus. I know the weight of that even without being immortal myself. But I know that my short life span, my tiny blip on your radar will be very special. Because of it's limited time it makes every moment all that more special, more memorable. If you turned me into a vampire it would take that away from our relationship. I love you Marcus, with every fiber of my being, but I cannot accept such a gift." She explained.

Marcus pondered over that for a moment. "Can I immortalize you in another way?"

"How so?"

"Let me paint you. Put on your favorite outfit, style your hair the way you love, let me paint you tonight. I want to remember you forever as you are now."

"That, I would love more than anything."
