Nσɳ ɳσႦιʂ ʂσʅ- Erm, actually, nevermind. I already have a pretentious latin quote in my signature.
Hello Everybody! I'm Oxy, but you can call me whatever you like. I have been writing in some form or another for most of my life, and I consider this board to be the next natural step in my own creative evolution--A very productive one at that, because I get to share the fruits of my labor with all of you fine people! So, let's not cut around the bush any longer, and get directly into the thick of things
My RP Philosophy
What do I write?
I write just about anything, some things more than others. I am 100% an uncreative hack, so I very much gravitate towards fantasy. I don't know what it is, but shiny armor and cool swords just seem to have a hypnotic effect on me. I do also love sci-fi, I admit I lean a lot more into the fi than the sci, simply because I really don't have the educational cred to make the more grounded down; material parts of the setting stand out as much as the more out-there, fictional side of things. Still, nothing beats a good Space Opera. Besides; I am of the opinion that science fiction allows us to explore aspects of humanity and society that other genres simply can't touch--I mean, Dune is my favorite series of novels.
I also love Cyberpunk. Shadowrun for all of it's flaws
If anything, modern day, slice-of-life, more-or-less grounded in reality stories are what I end up writing the least. Even then, these plots tend to have an element of Modern Fantasy or some other genre of speculative fiction attached to them. Make no mistake, however. Just because It's what I ultimately end up writing the least doesn't mean that I dislike it. I can be just as fond of modern stories as I can be of any other type of story, so if you have a pitch to make that involves a story set in the modern time, go for it.
The tone of my stories can vary, but I am a rather gloomy soul at heart, so I tend to incorporate a lot of dark aspects into my stories. Of course, this doesn't mean I'm constantly fishing for angst or that I'm just writing Torture Porn--My philosophy is that the lower the lows, the higher the highs. Besides, while I definitely lean towards the darker side of the spectrum when it comes to what I write, If you're looking for a story with a bit of a lighter tone, just say so! I'll do my best to make sure that I write a story that elevates your mood, not the latter.
Additionally, I am very much looking to RP in the setting I designed, but that's far from a dealbreaker. If you don't want to work with the setting, I'll figure it out. I will happily hack apart my characters and fit them together for your setting with a smile on my face.
Who do I write?
I will admit, I almost universally write Men. I have my reasons for this, but Full Disclosure--If we're in an RP, I'm probably going to be playing a guy. Now, keep in mind that mostly applies to focal characters. Side-characters, NPCs, and other characters of that caliber I do not have the same hesitation towards, so there'll still be plenty of women and people of other genders in the story, just probably not in the driver's seat. At least not on my end.
The Men I write tend to fall into two categories. Gruff and Tough gray-foxes who can kill with a look and Younger, more effeminate men with hearts full of sorrow and anger, but strong ideals. Keep in mind this does not encompass all of the characters I write. It's just a pattern I see myself frequently falling into.
I also have characters I've made listed here. The characters listed here probably represent what I'm interested in playing at the current moment. Once again, I'll happily retrofit them for different settings, and if you have an idea that just can't work for these characters, shoot your shot anyways. It's probably more likely I'll say Yes than No and you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. I'm not so inflexible that I can't create a character for my partner. Besides, the characters listed in that thread are for a fantasy setting. If we did something that's not fantasy, I'd have to make a new character anyways.
With who do I write?
Depends on what you mean. If we're talking about people, it doesn't matter to me. Man, Woman, somewhere in between--so long as you're an adult and you treat me with respect, I could not care less. I won't Ghost you and I hope that you won't ghost me either. If you need to take a hiatus for some reason, just say so. No need to explain, so much as a "Going to be gone for a while" is fine by me. If you need to drop an RP, just say "I can't write this anymore, sorry.". No need for any explanation, life happens, we get busy, we lose creativity, and sometimes an RP just doesn't pan out the way you want it to.
If we're talking about characters, the characters I play will be unilaterally Bisexual. That means they'll be into Men, Women, and Genderqueer people. It doesn't matter so long as I think I can work with that character, and that character is an adult. In other words, I'm really not picky.
How do I write?
I write almost universally in Third-Person limited when I'm writing from the perspective of a character. For world-building, as in writing not done from the perspective of a character, I might use a kind of Pseudo-Second Person. I also have a tendency to slip into that Pseudo-Second person if I'm making an allegory or metaphor, or if a character is going off on a tangent (He made sure to stock up on plenty of food for the road. It's always good to have more than you need then less than you need, and you can never be too prepared.). It's definitely a kink in my writing style that I'm trying to work out--but I hope you don't mind too much.
I also love to put Em dashes everywhere--besides where they're needed--and use semi-colons on every word; besides the word they're supposed to be on. Once again, it's a quirk of my writing style and not a great one. My apologies if that bothers you, I honestly am working on it.
How much I write really depends on the context. For massive plot events and scene-setting posts, I am of the belief that a single 10 paragraph post to describe a scene is better than 4 3 paragraph posts. It's just more efficient, and thus more enjoyable. However; if the current activity in the RP is one that relies on a lot of back-and-forth (Fighting, Talking, Fucking) then the post should be tuned down in scale. Afterall, It's sort of hard to write 3 paragraphs when all the character is doing is answering the question "What did you do with the vacuum?".
Finally, OOC is important. I am the type of person that will outline an RP like they are outlining a novel. That extent of planning is by no means necessary, but we definitely need to talk about what's going to happen in the RP before we dive in.
Where do I write?
Here, on the site.
When do I write?
My schedule can be rather turbulent at times. My job is 1st shift, so generally expect me to not available around first-shift hours. I also have a couple of TTRPG sessions each week--These take 3-4 hours each and tend to be later in the day. I might be able to get a post out during these sessions if I'm not doing much in them, but that's no guarantee. Additionally, things can come up and the time I was free yesterday might not be the time I'm free tomorrow. I can't promise I'll provide updates on my availability on any given day, but I won't mind if you send me a "Hey, where are you?" every once in a while--Just don't start spamming me with it.
As for the frequency of my posts, that's too complex to give a good answer on. Some days I'm free and I can write all day and night long, other days I can't even get a post in. Some-days I might not have much time but get hit with a massive wave of muse and be able to get out several 4+ Paragraph posts. What I can try to (tentatively) promise you is that I can get out a single 3-5 paragraph post every day. If I'm just too busy, am scratching my head as to what to write, or just need to write a lot and can't get it done in one day--I will try and let you know.
Why do I write?
Because a story told to no-one is not a story at all. Because the medium of collaborative literature allows me to experience that which no Video Game, Movie, RPG, or TV show could ever emulate. Because it forces me to be creative every day. Because it's fun.
I also write because I like to know what other's think of my creative labors. Hearing criticism from my partners stings, but it honestly forces me to reconsider my writing style and leads me to improve in a real way. There's no serotonin high like that of my partner praising my writing. Even just a "Oh, that's cool." can put a smile on my face for the rest of the day.
I also do it to talk to people, I consider this to be a social activity just as much as it is a creative activity. I very much would like to become properly entrenched in this community, not just someone who shows up, drops off their work for the day, and leaves without ever talking to anyone. If you want someone to talk to, I'm down most of the time. I'm not equipped to be your therapist, but if you just want to bitch about how much your job sucks, I'm all ears.
Plots and Pairings?
I don't have many detailed plots yet, but what I do have are some ideas for pairings. Here are some, ordered in no particular way--My character on the left.
If I put "v-v" next to a pairing, it means "vis-a-vis", or that I'm still down for the plot if the roles are reversed.
- Warrior x Warrior
- Knight x Prince/Princess (v-v)
- Explorer x Alien
- Prince x Commoner (v-v)
- Mage x Monster (v-v)
- Cleric x Demon (v-v)
- Tradesman x Commoner (Just two working stiffs bonding over their jobs) (v-v)
- Priest x Deity
- Enemies to Lovers
- Love at First Sight
- Ogre x Fairy (Not the literal creatures; but the idea that one character has a very serious and callous personality, while the other is very sweet and playful.)
- Introverted Person x Extraverted Person (v-v)
- Celebrity x Adoring Fan
- Soulmates (Doesn't have to be a supernatural thing, but more of the metanarrative idea that no-matter-what, these characters will end up together)
By no means an exhaustive list, keep your eyes out for updates, and certainly don't believe this is intended as a solid measure of everything I'm willing and unwilling to RP.
SEX. NOW.
Ah, the good stuff.Alright, let's get the cat out of the bag. Am I willing to write smut? Yes. Am I wanting to write smut? Yes. Am I actively looking to write smut? Yes. Am I unwilling to write a story if it does not contain smut? No.
I mentioned the general orientation of my characters before and not in this section because many people put a lot of stock into that--and rightfully so. However; the rest of my preferences when it comes to sex in RP will be contained here.
The real kicker for me is Romance. This does not necessarily have to come in the form of our characters going out on dates and being all gushy to one another (Though that is A+ Material), what I mean by Romance might be better suited by calling it attraction. I prefer it when characters are into one another. When they have sex, it's because the two of them honestly feel intimate towards one another. When they spend time together, they're spending time together because they like each-other. To this extent, I am much more willing to write a story with romance but no smut than I am to write a story with smut but no romance. If they aren't cuddling after, what's even the point? This can be even the most surface-level attraction of the two of them--literally just the two of them thinking the other is hot. If two people are going at it, and neither of them are really into each-other at all, though--I'm just not having fun.
As for the frequency/prevalence of sex--My philosophy is that our characters are normal people and normal people have sex from time to time. As in; sex is not the sheer driving force of the plot. Our characters can go around fucking under every tree they find so long as they're motivated by something that's not sex. Sure, the occasional contrived smut scene ("Damn! I can't complete the ritual unless we fuck!") is all well-and-good, but the plot of our RP should not solely exist to provide rationale for porn. I mean, occasionally I'm down for an RP where we never get off Mr. Boner's wild ride, but that's just generally not how I roll.
As for a smut/plot ratio--I really don't feel like I'm equipped to give one out. It really depends on the individual RP, and my philosophy for why a generally plot-focused RP can have a lot of smut is that we only write in detail what we consider interesting, things like Fighting, Fucking, Emotional Scenes, ETC. It can honestly range, It's something we can talk about while deliberating for RP.
Now down to brass-tacks, kinks and all that.
For one thing, most characters I write are dominant. I'm okay with Power-Bottoms, disobedient subs, and all that good stuff, but generally speaking my characters will present in a dominant manner.
I'm not going to give out a list of kinks because I think that kinks are much more important to the individual RP than anything else. It should really be a 1x1 question of "What kinks do you want to see incorporated in the RP?" during OOC talk. I will say that I tend to (as far as RP is concerned) be more attracted to Women who are on the more voluptuous and curvaceous side of things (though the exact extent can vary a lot, and I tend to be more attracted to more effeminate men (Do NOT read as fully effeminate, though.) These are not things I am likely to reject an RP based purely around, but it might affect the sexual dynamic of the RP a bit.
To provide at least some kinks I'm into: Outercourse, Oral Sex, and Kissing. Make of these what you would.
What I believe are more important than kinks are limits. A broken limit will end an RP MUCH faster than an unsatisfied kink.
So, here are mine. Keep in mind all these limits apply to things that are sexualized, most of these things are fine when used as plot-elements (within reason)
Gore (A little bit of blood is fine, but innards should stay innards)
Vore
Filth (General term for Shit, Piss, Puke, Musk, Excessive Sweat, ETC.)
Abuse (I'm fine with pain--Hell, hellraiser is my favorite horror movie--But it starts to be a problem once it's clear they're no longer enjoying it)
Non-Con (They both have to be into it.)
Atrocity played for Kicks (Cannibalism, Murder, Maiming, these are things that I do not believe should be sexualized.)
Incest
So, anything else?
There is one thing--Gore. When it comes to non-sexualized gore and violence, I am 100% down for it. A lot of the characters I play tend to be violent men, and I very much enjoy Body Horror. If I had it my way, most of my RPs would contain some sort of combat and by extension, some sort of gore. I want to stress, though, that this should stay out of the bedroom.
Other than that, no, that should honestly be about it. Thank you for reading this far, and I hope to see some of you fine people as partners in the stories we tell. I intend to add plots, pairings, and the like to this as time goes on--and add more characters and setting details, but this is a pretty comprehensive portfolio of my RP methodology for the current moment.
I will say I have been thinking of starting up a Group RP. It might take weeks if not months to formulate as I see who's all interested and do prep work, but keep your eyes peeled!
Of course, I put this at the very bottom because I feel like 99.9% of people don't need to hear this, Everything I write will be adhering to the Site Rules. I do not need to, want to, or am interested in trying to defy or skirt around the rules of the site. If someone approaches me with an RP that breaks site rules or is obviously trying to circumvent them, It will be rejected.
