250 years after the Great Cataclysm, the new shape of the world has been divided among the great powers. In the glaciers and frozen wastes of the far North lies the dominion of the Ice Wiitches- controlled by Esmeralda Frost, an ancient witch of immeasurable power. Amidst the barren lands of the East can be found the kingdom of the Djinn- spirits of a long forgotten age born of the four winds. In the Western mountain ranges- among unscalable peaks and unstable volcanoes- are the great dragons- enormous wyrms, the keepers of accumulated wisdom and lore, resting in nests of their preferred treasures: gold, gems, books and tomes. It is here one could find the Great Library- the collected wisdom, knowledge, and experience of countless ages and races, many such long forgotten by all but their keepers.

#2. Summer 2000.
Global outbreak of "super virus " kills off between a third and a half of the world's total population. Sadly enough, many of the deaths were infants and young children whose immune systems were not yet fully developed. All of the elderly beyond 60 died from compromised health, as did many of those from 50 to 60. Africa, parts of Europe, Asia, and South America were completely decimated. Any with noteworthy or hereditary health issues eventually died of major illness or immune system overload. Senior statesmen in wealthier countries- U.S., Canada, Great Britain- were lost to the virus. Britain lost much of the royal family. The U.S. lost the majority of its judiciary branch, as well as the top 5 tiers of its executive branch. Prisons and jails were shut down to handle the bodies of the victims. Evaluations and desperate re-organizing of priorities had all but the absolute worst relocated back into the national workforce.
Those that survived were generally of two categories: the smallest being the completely immune; and those that recovered from lesser infections- comprising the vast majority. This second group developed a healthier immune system that resisted all but the most lethal of ailments- and the virus had killed all of the carriers of those infections. Surprisingly enough, all but a small few militia/survivalist types died from it. Airports and seaports were closed under emergency quarantine laws until reliable contact could be made with the rest of the world to determine the extent of casualties and contamination risk. Ten to fifteen years later, the world experienced a massive baby boom. Females from the ages of 16 to 25 averaged 3 to 5 births per year. These post-viral children showed extremely high IQs and greenlighted across the board on aptitude. Twenty to thirty years after the start of the baby boom, sciences gained geniuses and experts that in most cases acquired notice in multiple fields.
