Since the fall of the Titans during their battle with the Olympians, the Olympians had ruled over the world and created it in its image. They created man as the pinnacle of their creation though he did not have but heart and mind to truly thrive in nature. So he was given fire by Prometheus to conquer the world, and conquer it they did.
The humans worshiped these gods, and through this worship they maintained a strength unimaginable by man. They could shapeshift at will, bring forth beings just from their blood, and create new life as they pleased. They did benefit the men and women who worshiped them, giving them favors in return for their allegiance. Though eventually the worship began to halt. Man was making discoveries of the world, creating things of their own that were magnificent and inspired them to believe that they themselves were their own gods.
Mount Olympus began to rumble as the gods started losing their strength with the loss of followers praying to them. Poseidon, angered by this and the humans that claimed to be masters of the sea, retaliated on the human race. He demanded that all men on the sea were to be drowned until they repented of their arrogance, assigning sirens to coach mermaids on the finer points of downing ships. He had no idea that one such pair would be his undoing......
