Does Anyone want to play "Evil"?
Premise: In a fantasy world, at the time of the most recent final (lol) battle between "Good" and "Evil", both of the opposing armies, their most capable "heroes", "generals" & "kings" annihilated each other in combat, throwing the lands into an undeniable stalemate.
The royal and noble heirs were generally underage children and fools. The wisest survivors, typically respected old and wounded veterans from both sides negotiated borders that included a twenty mile wide demilitarized zone that no army from either side was allowed to enter. Three trade roads were established, the cold northern mountain pass and the central forest pass and the southern humid wetlands, east and west running, no wider than two wagons. Private citizens could purchase "permits" to enter and pass though into the zone for the purposes of trade and "wildlife control". "Good" and "Evil" "dungeons" that spawned in the zone were to be viewed as "outside interference" between the signing nations and were to be "neutralized" either by "regulation" or "elimination".

SUGGESTIONS:
All characters begin with a knife and regular clothing & foot-wear.
Melee Fighter Types may begin with heavy cloth armor, a single handed melee weapon of standard quality and a wooden shield, or a two handed melee weapon of standard quality.
Ranged Weapon Types may begin with medium cloth armor and a ranged weapon of standard quality and a "quiver" of arrows/bolts or ammo pouch or "bullets"/stones, or some other "ammunition" container.
Magical Casting Types may begin knowing three different low level spells and may make nine castings per day.
Animal/Monster Tamers may begin with heavy cloth armor OR light cloth armor & non-lethal subduing strike skill.
Players may suggest other types of characters and consult about inclusion.
