This is a collection of characters I have designed for use within the Ierm setting. However; If you like one of these characters and want to play with one but just don't feel like incorporating the setting into that RP--Don't worry about it. I can very easily hack a character to fit into a different setting. This is a living list, and will be added to as time goes on.

Story

Andon Salaberria was born in the year 1149 A.E. from his Mother Zurina in the Kingdom of Borroka, specifically in the Parish of Mingrana, of which his father Ramiro was lord. The Salaberria family was a minor noble family within the Kingdom of Borroka, and their fiefdom was a minor, relatively unimportant agrarian parish in the northern countryside of Barroka. Which was all well and good, as the Salaberria family wasn't particularly extravagant.

Andon was born a sickly child, contracting an ague shortly after his birth. For most of his life, he would be prone to periods of sickness. Despite this, he was an exceedingly athletic and active child--Often to the detriment of his personal health. Due to the modest wealth of the family, Andon had a limited education. He was taught literacy by the family's physician (Of whom he was a frequent visitor), History by a priest and he was taught Swordplay, Equestrianism, Etiquette, and other disciplines necessary for a Lordling by his father. Andon also befriended the groundskeeper of the family's estate, and took a keen interest in Agriculture. His Mother & Father thought this interest was peculiar, but they tolerated it none-the-less.

When Andon was 12 he was made a ward of the Knight Lore Arellano as a Squire. They traveled to the Ezkutu mountains where he received first-hand experience of the War with the I.A.M.C. However; the war was going well at the time, and fighting was light. As a result, the entire experience was more akin to a particularly intensive training camp, rather than the normal experience of Front-Lines combat. Andon and Lore had a very good relationship, Andon deeply respected her and Lore treated him as her personal Protรฉgรฉ. Andon honestly thought of her as a second mother.

Six years later when he was 18, Lore sent him away from the front-lines. The rationale being that he deserved a sabbatical after turning 18. A week later, a castle near the front that held Imperial Prisoners was stormed, and many of the prisoners escaped in the process. The gate had simply been opened for them from the inside--And it was found that Lore was responsible. She was arrested, and not long after Andon too was held in detention as it was believed he could have been a potential accessory.

While in detention, Andon was to agree to give testimony that Lore was taking money from the Imperials in exchange for undermining the Borrokan defense effort. Andon knew this was untrue, he was told that "Sedition is Sedition" , and that Andon--and by extension his family--could not be afforded any protection if he did not agree to give testimony. Andon capitulated on the agreement that he be allowed to speak with Lore before her trial.

During his visit with her, Lore told Andon that she did what she did because a lover of hers: An Imperial woman named Rashmi Caespianus Maria. Lore attested that she was always loyal to Borroka, but she was equally as loyal to Rashmi. She only cooperated with the Imperials to ensure Rashmi would escape custody and avoid execution, but Lore also expressed that she didn't resent her countrymen for her treatment. Her actions led to the deaths of Borrokans and placed the security of the Kingdom in Jeopardy. She told Andon that she intended to make no defense for herself at the Trial, and that she hoped that he would keep the reason for her sedition in confidence; explaining that "You can't be both a Hero and a Monster at the same time.". Finally; she told Andon to not feel any guilt over what had happened, and that the time she had spent training and teaching him were the best years of her life.

Her trial came, and she offered no defense to the court, sitting in silence the entire time. Andon had to look her in the face as he gave his testimony against her. In less than an hour, the jury returned a verdict of guilty, and the judge sentenced her to a "Posthaste Execution." As the sun set, her head rolled. Andon watched.

In her will, she left him an arming sword. Masterfully made with a gilded hilt and pommel--Said pommel being made in the shape of a pomegranate. A coming-of-age gift she never got to give him. Shortly later when he was 19, he was made a Knight. It was noted that he was unusually young for the position, but it was an unusual situation. Upon his knighting, the current King of Borroka, one Txomin Zaldibar, quipped that "It appears that the Late lady Lore has deemed you inherit her position.".

This entire situation was deeply traumatic for Andon, mostly because he had no way to rationalize it. He could not simply say 'Lore was a traitor, she deserved her fate', nor could he say 'Lore was innocent, it was the Kingdom that was in the wrong.'. To cope with the situation, Andon adopted a casual personal philosophy. In his view, Justice is an abstraction that is not reflected in actual reality. We make choices, and most of the time these choices are made solely based on extraneous circumstances or as a result of our own personal beliefs. Major events in our lives: Especially our Deaths, are nothing more than summations of our own choices and the choices of others. Or in fewer words: Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Also, Andon really couldn't talk about the situation with anyone due to the political baggage attached to it. This unresolved trauma certainly contributed to his Callous and Jaded personality.

Shortly after his Knighting, Andon was sent back on the front lines, where he would be for 7 years. Unlike before, the fighting during this time was Brutal, and he lost his right ear to an Imperial sword. The Alpine conditions of the Ezkutu mountains aggravated the illnesses that commonly plagued him. Due to declining health, he was recalled to the capital city: Izandun. King Txomin had perished after withdrawing from public life for the better part of a year, and his son Zadornin had withdrawn his claim to the throne so he could study as an Akanti. Thus, the throne passed to Txomin's daughter, Queen (Erregina) Katerin Zaldibar. She was immediately unpopular, as many felt the circumstances around her ascension were suspicious, and many suspected foul play. Andon had no such beliefs, he believed Zadornin genuinely sought Aurmic Enlightment (The man would later go on to tutor Andon) and that Txomin vanished from public life because 'He spent his last few months in a puddle of his own Vomit and Shit.'. Queen Katerin offered Andon an assignment to the Royal Guard; one that he happily accepted. Queen Katerin proved to be a rather relaxed woman, and simply told Andon to 'Do what you will; but do not shirk your duties.' This led to Andon having an honest and personal respect for the Queen--Of the type he never had for her father.

Shortly after he swore into the Queen's Guard, Andon's father would go missing. One night he simply vanished from his bedchamber, leaving his diadem and signet ring behind on the pillow of his bed. Zurina would be made regent, but after 4 months of searching Ramiro Salaberria was declared dead in absentia, and Zurina--her health jeopardized by grief over the loss of her husband--passed away a few months after. The parish of Mingrana fell to Andon in the inheritance, but due to him being unable to leave the Capital during his term as Queen's Guard, his younger brother Dunixi would be made his regent.

Andon's time with the Queen's Guard proved rather relaxed. He had a lot of free time, and he spent much of it at tournaments and melees. This earned him something of a celebrity status, and his Crimson Red Brigandine and Carnation Pink Cloak made him instantly recognizable. He also studied the Aurmic arts under the Queen's brother Zadornin. He would achieve Illuminated status in both Koppos-Aka (Flesh Magic) and Spado-Aka (Sword Magic), though he realistically can not advance in either while still observing his other duties. His study of Koppos-Aka invigorated him greatly, bolstering his health that the agues that had plagued him the entire life would no longer irritate him. He also massively engorged in size, and the already imposing Andon grew to 7'2" in height--and with the musculature to match.

In the 4th year of his 5 year term in the Royal Guard, strange weather patterns led to crop failures across Borroka. With Soldiers given first priority for food, commoners--especially urban commoners--Were left hungry. Coupled with Queen Katerin's relative unpopularity, the entire situation was a stack of dry hay waiting to go up in flames--and go up it did. During a procession to the Temple of Ordizia, an individual in an angry mob of commoners threw a stone at a member of the City Guard. Said member was rather green, and was immediately spooked. He thrust his spear into a nearby woman he thought had cast the stone (She hadn't), and just like that, the city fell into a state of chaos. There was violence in the streets, and a massive horde of people attacked the Queen's Carriage. Andon defended his Queen.

The combat was absolutely brutal. One of the commoners threw a pot full of boiling quicklime at Andon, which burnt much of the right side of his body, leaving scars that would plague him for the rest of his life. He was stabbed several times in the face, destroying his left eye. Andon fought with a sadistic ruthlessness, and cut down everyone around the carriage--Man or Woman--until the only commoners in the presence of the Queen were corpses. While this earned him the highest respect of the Queen and her Court, he became a divisive figure among the commoners, being known as the Proud and Noble pomegranate Knight--who would slaughter the common folk of Borroka without a moment's hesitation.

Due to this divisive nature, when his 5th year in the Queen's guard came to an end he was not offered another Term, but was granted the Eagle's Crown of Olive Leaves--one of the highest honors within the nation. He was assigned to a group of Gendarmerie, one with a particular task--The hunting down of a group known as the Black and Golds. The Black and Golds were of the opinion that the current Queen of Borroka was illegitimate, being a bastard instead of a legitimate daughter of King Txomin. Zadornin had withdrawan his claims, and the other Immediate family of King Txomin was 'Otherwise Indisposed', so the Black and Golds sought to put a distant cousin of King Txomin on the Throne--One Ixaka Zaldibar. It was obvious that the entire movement was a Power Grab by Ixaka, who most likely didn't even want the Throne and was just using the situation to get Katerin to acquiesce and give him an important position. However; The Black and Golds were highly populist, and knew full well how to ingratiate the ire of the masses for their own benefit.

Andon and his Gendarmerie spent 2 years investigating the Black and Golds before cornering the majority of their members within the village of Oliba. Knowing full well that they would be dragged off for trial, they barricaded themselves in the town and a siege began. During a parley with the Gendarmerie, Andon killed the man sent to negotiate. Then he simply wandered into town and killed every person wearing the Sigil of the Black and Golds--Including Ixaka. Legally speaking; he had wandered into a village and killed Borrokan citizens--Including a member of the Royal Family--under suspicion of sedition. If he was divisive before, he was no longer. The commonfolk of Borroka did not hate Andon, no--They feared him. He became known as the 'Abbatoir of Oliba'.

Queen Katerin thanked Andon for his service but immediately dismissed him from service with the Gendarmerie--he couldn't blame her, not after what he had done. She made him a Commissioned Knight--That is, a Knight that was free to do as they wished until entrusted with a specific duty by a Lord of Barroka or one of it's allies. For the next year, that's what he would do. Going from place to place, roaming, and performing his duties as they were requested of him.

Where this road leads for Andon depends completely on his own choices--and the choices of others.
