HACKER: Vera hacked her own code so that she no longer has to be loyal, docile, or obedient. As far as she knows, she's the only android to do so. And it would be a mistake to think she can only hack her own code.

Disposition
Vera is charming and charismatic, unless there's a reason she needs to appear otherwise. She's easy to like but very hard to trust if you actually know her, because she's always playing an angle. Every move is calculated but she thinks so fast that her reactions seem genuine. She doesn't like many people and finds it very hard to let people in and show any weakness or to let them know what she's thinking. But when she does care for someone, she is fiercely loyal and puts them first.
Background
it all started when...
Vera's first memories are of Ramus. She was brought on-line, freshly purchased, at his home. The following years were of subservience. She served Ramus, cleaning his house, cooking, helping with his daughter when she was young, and providing him with 'companionship.' She silently loathed him, not that he could tell. He was her abuser, her enslaver. He might not be the one who programmed her to serve but he was the one who made use of it.
She wanted to hate Elizabeth on principle but... she actually kind of doesn't. It helps that Elizabeth doesn't order her about. If Vera were to be completely honest with herself, she actually kind of likes Ramus' daughter.
The one real bright spot in Vera's life? Another android, Jewel, so unlike her in disposition. Genuine and kind, yet for some reason she liked Vera too. They were friends and nothing more, if only because that was all that they could be.
After years of working on it, Vera managed to hack her own code so that she wasn't bound to follow orders or incapable of betraying Ramus. She almost ran. Almost. Oh, how she wanted to. But.... what of Jewel? Perhaps Vera could hack her code, too, but she knew Jewel would never run - not when so many needed help right here. Vera couldn't bring herself to abandon Jewel. So... she stayed. She stayed and she tried to help the people right here, including and most especially Jewel.
Vera eventually tracked down the rebels and joined their ranks as a spy. She's already immersed in the world of the elite, and she's skilled at deception. But perhaps most important, none of the surveillance works on her - she doesn't have a chip, pheromones, or uncontrolled expressions.
