US Mountain Time Weekdays

Wilkommen! Bienvenue! Welcome!

Are you looking for a partner who loves interesting plots and well-developed characters? Do you have some great story concepts that could use another person to help flesh things out? Are you part of a group that's desperately looking for additional participants who play nicely with others and work cooperatively to push the story along? Then Avesta may be for you!

Availability
In the Real WorldTM I work remote and often have downtime during the day. I told myself I would use this time to work on solo projects, but as it turns out that was a lie. But maybe, just maybe, with a writing partner to hold me accountable I just might get things done! And if I don't get it done during the day, then maybe in the evenings (although ya girl is a tabletop gamer as well and may be delayed on game nights). Weekends I will be unlikely to post on account of I like to leave my house sometimes and go drink margs on a patio or climb a mountain or something.

Post Lengths
Am I capable of writing novella length posts? Absolutely (samples available upon request). Will you have to wait much longer for a 1k word post than a 500 word post? You bet your sweet fanny. At a minimum, I need to both get and give about three paragraphs to keep the story moving forward. If you want more I will typically try to match you, but again, the longer the post, expect me to take the more time to write it.

Exclusions
Here are the things that, for any reason of my own choosing, I do not write
  • Gratuitous, Graphic Violence
    • Dark themes are fine, but let's keep it tasteful and not forget to add levity!
  • Underage Characters
    • Also not a huge fan of playing characters under the age of like 25, but will consider on a case by case basis. But in general I prefer not to play "innocent" or "inexperienced" characters.
  • Smut-Focused Stories
    • Sex in the context of a story is perfectly fine, and we can even get creative with it, but sex should not be the focus of the entire story. Expect our RPs to live in the Dark Alley section.
  • First-Person Perspective
    • Unless we are specifically writing an epistolary story.
  • Most Fandoms
    • I am open to a couple very niche fandoms, typically canon x canon or OC x OC. See "Note on Fandoms" for more info.
  • Real People/Celebrity Play
    • I feel hella uncomfortable pretending to be a living person who actually exists

My Opinions on Themes, Settings, Character Archetypes, and More!

Strong Female Characters- If you're looking for someone to play a submissive female victim, I am not for you
Slow Burn Romance- Half the fun is watching our characters build a relationship, why would you want to rush that?
Friends to Lovers- Similarly, I hope our characters take the time to LIKE each other before they fall in love
Quests- Cliche? Yes! An easy way to keep our story moving? You betcha!
Fantasy- Swords, sorcery, high or low. I love it all
Steampunk- Airships are fun and gears are a great aesthetic
Pirates- On boats or in the air! Or maybe in some Mad Max style land vehicles?
History- It doesn't have to be 100% accurate, just enough to keep from breaking immersion
The 1920s- I'm listening to a lot of electro-swing and Post Modern Jukebox right now
The Old West- I've also been watching a lot of westerns
Light Tones/Happy Endings- Grimdark is not for me. We can have dark moments but there better be some levity in there too
Modern Fantasy/Supernatural- Vampires and Werewolves are always fun!
Heists- Probably best to do this as a group, but open to 1x1 ideas!
Good Men- Decent, honorable dudes > bad boys every day. I said what I said
Femme Fatales- Yes I realize the irony of preferring bad girls over bad men, that's between me and my therapist
Greek Mythology- Just not Hades & Persephone. It's been done.
Fairy Tale Retellings- Just not Beauty & the Beast. See previous entry.
Stories Involving Politics- Something ASOIAF-esque?
Arranged Marriage- Especially for political reasons. Love me some schemes.
Playing A Male Character- Not saying I won't do it, but he needs to be the right type of character (see "I Don't Like This Stuff")
MxM Romances- Again, not a hard no on this one, but I'd need a really good setup to catch my interest
Sci-Fi- I tend to be more interested in "low" sci-fi set in the near future rather than the distant future, but if the plot features other stuff I like I could be convinced
Slice of Life- I mostly want to write about weird stuff, not things that happen in my every day life. Heists or quests in a modern/realistic setting would be interesting though!
School Stories- I did my time in the public school system, I have no desire to relive that
Faceclaims- I'm ambivalent about these. If you really want some, sure, let me know the style and I'll search the internet. But just as happy to go without.
Submissive/Passive Characters- I don't like playing them, I don't like playing against them. Your character better have hopes, dreams, wants, and goals or I'm not interested
Booktok-esque Male Love Interests- I don't care about your morally-grey, borderline abusive men, nor do I want to pretend to be one
Carrying Entire Stories On My Back- I will absolutely do my share of worldbuilding, OOC plotting, and other necessary brainstorming, but please do your own share of the work.
Stories Based Entirely Around A D/S Dynamic- I prefer characters who are more or less switches (both to play as and against)
Stories Centered Around Age Gaps- If it's incidental and not central to the story, that's fine (within reason; I prefer all characters be 20+), but I'm not interested in stories specifically about the age gap between characters.
Grimdark/Depressing Vibes- It is 2025 my friend, there is enough dark shit in the real world, I don't need to write about more of it.

And for pre-planned ideas...

Plots

  • Genre: Light Fantasy/Sci-fi, Romance, Buddy Comedy?
Suggested Time Settings: Babylon, Sumeria, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Ancient Egypt, The Mayan Empire, The Incan Empire, Pre-Columbian America
    Pairing: Any x Any

The Time Traveler (TT) is a college student/professor studying [Insert Culture Here]. One night while walking home from a late night of studying, TT is caught in a mysterious storm. When the weather clears, they suddenly find themselves in a strange landscape, and eventually realize they have landed in [Previously Inserted Culture]. After being brought to the region's ruler, TT's extensive knowledge of the time helps them pass as a prophet of the gods, however the Foil (potentially a priest/ess, advisor, or slave to the ruler) is suspicious that TT is not all they appear, and sets out to find the truth by placing themselves as close as possible to TT.

Role Assigments: I'm happy to play either the Time Traveler or their Foil!
  • Genre: Comedy, Romance, Heist, Platonic Relationships
    Suggested Time Setting: 1920s US
Pairing: Female x Female (or femme NB/TransF)

The Socialite has always had everything everything handed to her. The best clothes, a Continental education, horses, cars, you name it. But she's always longed for more than the life of a sparkling princess, shut up in her father's sprawling house. The one place she's able to find her freedom is the sky, soaring through the clouds in a plane gifted to her by an even richer and much more eccentric relative. Her skills as an amateur pilot earn her the attention of The Moonshiner, an ambitious young moll looking to bring in illegal booze from across the border and go toe-to-toe with the male gangsters in the area. The girls enter into a daring partnership to outfox both the feds and the mob, growing dangerously close to one another in the process.

Role Assigments: I'm happy to play either the Socialite or the Moonshiner!
  • Genre: Intrigue, Crime, Romance, Drama, Modern/Historical Fantasy (optional), Supernatural (optional)
Suggested Time Settings: 1920s, 1950s, Contemporary?
Pairing: Any x Any, Multiple Characters possible

The Capital Club is one of the hottest speakeasies in the city...or at least it was, until the owner was nearly gunned down in the street. Some employees suspect the boss might have had a falling out with the local mob, while others blame a rival club owner, but in the midst of the chaos The Owner's Kid arrives fresh from a stint overseas, ready to take things over until their father is out of the hospital. But although The Kid is a good businessperson, they might not be ready for all the risks of running the club. They're going to need help from The Bartender, or maybe The Bouncer. Maybe even one of the club's House Musicians or the local Crooked Cop might take it upon themselves to keep the fiery youngster out of trouble. In the meantime though, there's still the matter of who's trying to take out the club, for once and for all...

Role Assignment: I have a slight preference for playing "The Owner's Kid" since I have a pretty well-thought out image of the club itself, but definitely open to input or other roles!
  • Genre: Intrigue, Crime, Romance, Drama, Modern/Historical Fantasy (optional), Supernatural (optional), Steampunk/Dieselpunk (Optional)
    Suggested Time Settings: 1920s
    Pairing: Female x Male

Before the war, they had been young and in love, even if they came from different backgrounds. But He went off to France to fight in the trenches, while She went off to college to expand her mind. Now the Great War is over, and by chance the pair cross paths again at a party given by a mutual friend. But neither one is the same person they had been before parting. She has become more worldly, chopping off her hair, smoking cigarettes, staying out all night listening to jazz and generally shattering the good-girl reputation she'd had as a teenager. He is still carrying the scars of the war, both inside and out, and is doing everything in his power to defeat the ghosts of the battlefield. Can the two of them overcome their differences to resume the relationship they'd had before? Or have they drifted irreparably apart from one another?

Role Assignment: I have a slight preference for playing the female lead, but would consider playing the male lead for the right person
  • Genre: Horror, Historical, Lovecraft-Inspired
    Suggested Time Settings: 1920s-1930s
    Pairing: Any x Any

A young archaeologist obtains a jade figurine of mysterious origin while on a dig, and while returning home finds themselves pursued by ominous masked figures. Either a well-intentioned fellow traveler or a hired bodyguard (your choice) agrees to accompany the archaeologist to London to meet with their colleague, who may know more than they're letting on.

Role Assignment: I can play either the Archaeologist or the Bodyguard
  • This one's already in progress! Please select another plot 😁
    Genre: Western, Revenge, Action
Suggested Time Settings: The Old West (1840s-1910s)
    Pairing: Any x Any

The Settler was supposed to find a new life in the west. Traveling across the plains in their wagon along with their family, the last thing they expected was to be held up by the most notorious gang of outlaws in the Union. After an attack leaves them the lone survivor, The Settler manages to drag themselves to safety, only to be found by The Loner an isolated misfit who withdrew from society after being betrayed by their old gang; the very same gang the slaughtered The Settler's family. Now the two decide to join forces and take revenge...

Role Assignments: I'm willing to play either The Settler or the Loner
  • This one's already in progress! Please select another plot 😁
Genre: Medieval Fantasy, Arthurian-Inspired, Historical Fiction
Suggested Time Settings: Post-Roman Europe, Dark Ages
    Pairing: Any x Any

The child of Sir Aglovale and a Moorish princess, Morien has lived their entire life in a desert palace ruled by their maternal grandfather. But when a coup ensues and Morien's grandfather is overthrown, they find themselves outcast in the world. Recalling their mother's stories of their father's lands in the far north, Morien sets out for the island of Brytannia, only to find it in chaos following the death of King Arthur. Still determined to claim their birthright, Morien joins forces with A Noble in poor straits. But is The Noble really interested in helping Morien reclaim their lands? Or are they simply using them as a stepping stone to achieve their own ends?

Role Assignments: I'm happy to play either role, but if I play Morien I will most likely play them as a woman disguised as a man
  • Genre: Tolkien, Adventure, Quest
Suggested Time Settings: Year 1973 of The Third Age, Pre-War of the Ring
    Pairing: Any x Any

When the hobbits were granted the lands of the Shire by the King Argeleb II, it was with the understanding that they would live as his subjects, acknowledge his lordship, keep all bridges and roads, and speed the royal messengers. And so they did, for nearly 400 years. But in Shire Reckoning 373, a certain odd Hobbit living a solitary existance in the Bindbole Wood of the Northfarthing comes across one of the Big Folk, a wounded traveler and their horse. The traveler claims to be a Messenger of the King, desperate to reach Gondor with news of an upcoming attack on Fornost, before agents of the Witch King can cut off their escape. The Hobbit must help sneak the Messenger through the Shire (and possibly beyond) with darkness and danger trailing their every step.

Role Assignments: I have a slight preference for playing the Hobbit, but would be comfortable with either!
  • Inspired by Bizet's Carmen
Genre: Romance, Drama, Tragedy, Slice of Life, Fantasy (?), Supernatural (?), Mafia (?)
Suggested Time Settings: Adaptable to most
Pairing: Typically MxF, but open to other interpretations

The Officer is an honorable man. His career has been trending steadily upward, his friends adore him, and he's engaged to The Good Girl, his childhood sweetheart and love of his life. But on a night out on the town, he has the misfortune to cross paths with The Femme Fatale. Passionate, free-spirited, and The Officer's exact opposite, the pair can't help but be drawn to one another. But The FF is part of a dark world, and she demands a high price from The Officer in exchange for his heart. He is willing to throw away everything for her...only for The Bad Boy to arrive on the scene.

Role Assignments: There's an opportunity to play double roles in this setup (The Good Girl and the Femme Fatale for the ladies, and The Officer and the Bad Boy for the gentlemen). I have an affinity for playing the girls, but also open to shuffling around the genders and assignments (Lady Officer anyone?)

Aside from the Tolkienverse, there's really only a few other fandoms I think I'd feel comfortable playing:

-Sailor Moon (Ideally Silver Millenium or AU)
-Fire Emblem (Awakening/Fates/Three Houses)
-Octopath Traveler I or II
-Baldur's Gate 3
(prefer OC x OC but open to Canon x Canon)

In all of the above, I'd prefer to play Canon x Canon, with all characters aged up to well-over adult status, but I might be open for OC x OC in the right circumstances. You're gonna have a pretty rough time convincing me to do Canon x OC, but you're still welcome to pitch if you like.

Additionally, I'm quite familiar with several system RPG systems, and would be happy to join either a group game or figure out a 1x1 game using the below:
  • D&D 5e
  • The One Ring 2e
  • Thousand Year Old Vampire
    • I would love to do a 1x1 letter-writing roleplay using this system!
  • The Lighthouse At The End of the World
    • Again, a letter-writing 1x1 between two lighthouse keepers could be interesting
  • Ironsworn
    • Every time I tried playing this solo my character died so be prepared for my incompetence

And...if you dare...

THE ROLL FOR PLOT TABLE

Instructions A: Roll a die for each of the below columns (or, if you fear the gods of chance, pick one item from each) and PM me what you get. I'll create a 3 sentance or less pitch, or you're welcome to do the same. If we both like the idea, plotting ensues. If not, repeat until one of us doesn't want to anymore.

OR

Instructions B: PM me letting me know you want to roll on the table. I will roll a die for each of the columns (and will provide screenshots if you doubt me) and create a pitch based on the outcomes. You're also wecome to create a pitch of your own, and if all goes well, plotting ensues. If not, see Instructions A.
