- Later on, when Rosalie reclaims the throne, Kane becomes her head knight--granted the title of "Thorn." In this position, their romance may be kept secret. Rosalie goes on a moonlit walk through the garden with her Thorn, and they embrace when they're sure they're alone, but her handmaidens still gossip about their possible love.
- After their initial escape from the tower, the two end up at Flynshire, a town in the middle of a masquerade festival. This allows them to blend in anonymously, as well as have a dance together for the first time.
- Rosalie, naturally, becomes very afraid and distraught at the notion of Kane parting ways with her. To soothe her nerves, he offers her basic training in combat with the blade, but due to her faulty performance and stance, he ends up having to adjust her manually with his hands.
- Kane cannot take off his mask in front of Rosalie (or anyone who would see his face beneath), so to accommodate, she blindfolds herself while they are living in a cottage together. Eventually, though, Kane feels brave enough for her to see his face, but cannot bring himself to remove the mask himself. Instead, he takes her hands and places them upon the mask, letting her do the deed.
- "They gonna make some beautiful blond babies" quoth Eva
- The scarring beneath the mask haunts Kane, but as Rosalie's healing powers grow, she may be able to remove it if Kane agrees to it.
- In an effort to help Rosalie become stronger, Kane becomes a trainer of sorts to Rosalie. While they lay low, he teaches her basic survival skills should they be separated, and together they learn how her powers work and how they might be harnessed.
- Rhowyn has several connections, which may include the leader of the people who took over Kane's home kingdom, where he ran from long ago. A larger story plot may be formed down the line concerning this alliance, and possibly forming a route to get Rosalie her rightful place on the throne.
- Rosalie's emotions around Kane causes the flora around her to react; flowers bloom, grasses flourish, things spring to life. Kane notices these over time and starts to make connections, becoming suspicious that her feelings for him may match those he carries for her.
- At some point, either Rosalie writes "K+R" into the soil somewhere, or Kane writes the same thing but carves it into a tree
- As a token of gratitude, Rosalie gives Kane a kiss on his mask. He wipes it with a handkerchief, but secretly keeps the mark on the cloth as a token of luck, which he cherishes.
