Hey guys and gals! Lemme say, first off, loving the design and format of this forum! The customizable theme, where the chat bar is, and best of all, the Thread structures. May seem odd to compliment, but its a noticable and welcome change from the last forum I was on, and honestly, seems to inspire more activity! I'm really not sure where to start with this so I guess I'll just mark off the basics and what I'm in for nowadays. I apologize for the word-wall you're about to scale.
- I was 14 when I first got into roleplaying online, and of course, in my zeal starting out, I made many mistakes and left behind several posts/writings that just pain me to recall. But being an older, more experienced writer now, I can look back on those first posts with a mix of pride and weird inspiration; not only was that an innocent time in my life, but it was also a time where grammar and plot-adherence were negligible in the wake of chasing a fun story -- one that made me want to get on my laptop everyday, ignore my homework, and just write. I miss that feeling, and in coming here, a part me is searching for it.
- Sidenote: I'm also in the works of mapping out my own book series, so the writing here is very much meant to stimulate that. Mostly though, I'm just glad to have found a community I'm comfortable joining!
- As I'm sure the profile picture and username will reflect, I'm a high-fantasy writer; something about that medieval scene has always fascinated me, particularly the challenges with unruly magic, forced immortality, and the allure of a true tragedy. As I got older, naturally, I adopted a new perspective on the classic "Good v. Evil" concept, and I've had just a ton of fun toying with that idea. On the forum I mentioned, I've been a part of many amazing stories, made and moderated by many astounding writers.
- That said, I do very much enjoy futuristic/Sci-Fi settings, and I'm looking to branch out and try pretty much anything. I recognize I still have a long way to go on my journey and that I need to just experience more.
- With most of the personal stuff aside, I'll get to the big business. I've been at this for a good fistful of years, but I am by no means a pro. Here's what I'm used to and looking to improve:
- Traditionally, I've only ever RPed in groups, but recently I've had tons of fun writing 1x1 and in private/closed threads. To this I'll add, I have a tendency to coordinate/talk in PM vs. OOC; to set up plot-twists, disclose spoilers, etc. I'm working on being more open in this regard, and communicating concisely.
- I'm working on an f-list now, but things i won't try include:
, and stuff along those lines.scat, incest, rape, permanent damage to genitalia/partners, diapers, childplay
- I'm used to focusing on just a small roster of characters, one immortal knight in particular, but I'm looking to branch out here and try new character concepts.
- Looking to improve my "fight/combat" scene writing. It's weak, and fights are often two-dimensional for me.
- Looking to improve my ability to convincingly step into my character's shoes i.e., deliver what's on the character card. I forget habits, personality quirks, and worst of all, I over-express thoughts.
- Looking to improve my general ability to orchestrate stories and lay out settings in a more descriptive way. I've headed up two threads, from two different forums, and thus far I still need improvement.
