2026

Happy New Year!

I'm starting this year off fresh, and because I'm me, I'm doing whatever feels groovy (you get used to it). That's right, I'm talking music!

Music is love, and I think many of you will agree with me there. So, this month is dubbed Jamuary!

Here are the rules of the game. Post a song that inspires you. It could be your favorite song of all time, or something that's been stuck in your head for the past three days. When you post the song, since we're all good and read rules, let's spoiler those puppies! This thread might hold a lot of youtube videos and we don't want to slow down Grem's connection.

But, for real.

Post a song. You can link out to it, or post the video with the help of the media button in our posting toolbar. You will probably need to click the last set of three dots. Don't forget your spoiler.

1767549267417.png & 1767549304024.png

If you want a badge, don't forget to tell all of us why you chose the song you posted, and what it makes you feel, think, or anything else about it that you want to share with the rest of us!

BONUS ROUND:
Once the thread has a good bit of music in it, I invite you to come back for the twist. Choose a song that someone else posted, not your own, and write a small prompt for a story inspired by their song! Keep your character limit reasonable (250-300 words) and link back to the original post. You can tag the user that posted the song if you want to! Any prompt written belongs to the person that wrote it, unless they specify that anyone is free to use it (please be sure to include if it's free to use in your post)!

No stealing, no AI, and no bad vibes!

This event will be going until the end of the month, badge wise. But if you love the concept, don't stop just because of that.

I hope you're all doing your best out there and keep it up, ya' cuties!

Jumbled

I don't know where to start with my first choice haha xD I just love this artist cause of his range, stage Prescence and skills. This song gives me a calmed down brain even though it's a very sad song about a deep sadness of a goodbye and the feeling to tell them to not go. Ikanaide means "Don't go". I don't know what's wrong with me loving me some sad songs but its the music itself is filled with such passion and are wonderfully sung ^^ Cradles my brain into a calm space. I really love technical skills in singing which makes Dimash perfect for me <3 He have a TON of impressive songs in different genres that I recommend you to take a listen on :D

Probobly won't be for everyones taste. It's a folk metal song about cristianity comming into pagan Latvia. Calls the inquisitor "Gods dog" and the song is about him hunting witches and werewolfs just to be turned in one at the end.

But the song makes me proud to be Latvian the whole band does. It celebrates our rich culture in it's own unique way and also I showed this song to FireFly when I started out on this site so I also brings some associations to Inner Sanctum now.

This one makes me think about making difficult choices, particularly as pertains to choosing ideals, principles, or long term gains over intense short term satisfaction.

Once upon a time, I wrote with someone on another site. We came to a particularly emotional spot between our characters where mine chose to stifle his love for hers for pragmatic reasons. The reply that I sent her evoked a stronger response from her than I had anticipated. At first, she didn't catch that I had embedded a link to this song in a telling portion of this reply; she reread it a couple of weeks later, however, and clicked on the link, and...

... well, just listen.

So, there's a lot to this one, and the context of it being tied into what made me want to write again is important. It started as a thought (and feeling) experiment with a few concepts rattling around my brain.
-Archetypes
-Perspective
-Being touched by the possibility that imagination itself is god
-The occult concept of "as above, so below. As within, so without"
-The feeling I get when I listen to songs from the perspective of universe/consciousness/god/brain/self/whatever pleases you having a conversation.
-The feeling I have gotten in the past reading into what feelings must be driving a writer's story and characters
-Realizing all stories are everyone's story, and someone can get something completely different out of words depending on the angle

I could get deeper into every single point on the points, but the song here is the point!
All that out of the way, my interpretation of the song itself is the higher self in a shouting match with the ego. Kind of mirrors the concept of looking for notes for yourself of things you're not dealing with hidden in your own word choices.
Pretty dang hard, but the lyrics are the focus if that's not your thing.

Ok, this is the one that's been stuck in my head for days. Hazbin Hotel spoilers though. But the rhythm and softness and love in the song is just wonderful, as is the choreography. I really want to find a scene to write with it, but one hasn't come to me yet.

But, for a non-spoilers song and one not from a show... God, there are too many good ones. Jumbee, please don't disqualify me for being indecisive and posting too many.
It just does such a good job showing the dualities of someone who is head over heels loving with reckless abandon and of someone who's scared to fully dive in. That push and pull and how it can go if you're not careful.

I don't immediately think of a romantic relationship for this one. I always think of family. Parents who never budge and kids that have to grow up too fast.

And, this one makes me think of my male protagonist from my novel. Just how love is still so new to him and acting on it, or even just being too close to his girl will make him nervous and fluttery.

That's all. I swear. I'm sorry. >~<

My taste in music change often from week to week,
but this has been my favorite song for the past 2 years. I always comes back to it.
It has been my most played on Spotify for, yes, 2 years, lol.
It just grabs me and throws me in to that epic moment in every book, every movie or tv show.
I usually imagine a white lightning dragon breaking free and taking revenge on the world or saving it....
or some character in that perspective.
I can listen to it when I'm happy and get hyped, angry and be calm, sad and feel relieved...
Maybe not everyones taste if you like lyrics, which this one doesn't have.

If you want lyrics, this is my latest favorite:

๐ŸŽถ Enjoy ๐ŸŽถ

When I first listened to this song it reminded me of a time when I was less likely to ask for help when Iโ€™d have dark thoughts (people would be better off or live on without me) or admit to friends that I had ongoing depression. I was more likely to fake it till I made it in an unfortunately common way.

Donโ€™t worry, Iโ€™m much happier and healthier now, but thatโ€™s because Iโ€™ve mastered that vulnerability/willingness to ask for help.

Anyway, Yungblud is an artist who has been trending lately and this song by him was relatable which had me replying it in my head over the past few days or so.

So let me preface this a little: I hate the sound of pianos. If I owned a small time-share in scenic hell, my little rundown condo would no doubt have an unending playlist of piano-only compositions and country music's top-40.

I am a string person through and through. I love any instruments that is played by plucking strings. Ironic, I know, because country musicโ€™s main draw is its string instruments, but thats more a lyrical issue than a melodic issue for me.

But the melody of this piano song is beautiful and wistful and uplifting, with a little hint of danger. So itโ€™s something I want to highlight here, as this song, and only this song, has become a staple of my Spotify playlist when I write.

Color me obsessed. :)

When I'm doing a deep dive into music, I tend veer away from music videos and listen to covers. One of my favorite bands that typically does covers is Pentatonix, and out of their extensive catalog of covers, this is probably my favorite.

"The Sound of Silence" is originally sung by Simon & Garfunkel, and I know Disturbed covered the song as well, but there was just something about Pentatonix's version that resonated with me and created the most impact. I do like several ot Pentatonix's covers, and if you liked their cover of this song, I think "Hallelujah", "Bohemian Rhapsody", and their Daft Punk Medley are worth a listen.

This is one of the tunes I listen to when I think about my favourite Genshin OC and one of the ships I have for him, that I'm absolutely aching to write but probably never will. Maybe if I listen to this enough, I'll decide to write an actual fanfiction about this pairing and post it somewhere here, wherever you're supposed to post solo works. Maybe someone will enjoy reading my cheesiness and copious amounts of heartbreaking angst.

This took me a while because I don't normally use the word inspiring or think about what it means to be inspired. And yet if you shorten that word? And ask me for some inspo? I'll fall into a Pinterest rabbit hole and spam you with 30 images and 15 songs of inspo for characters and settings. So here's just ... some basic thoughts about this song that I like.

I like the combo of chill and depressive sounds, especially from the vocalist. It feels nihilistic to me. The lyrics describe a person who is defending what seems like the one thing in the entire world that's truly theirs, their mind/time. There's an impression that this person has reached the end of a very long rope, and what comes next may need defending. They're about to fuckin' snap, but in this chill nihilistic way that promises peace in psychosis? I like this slow, controlled demolition of one's sanity. I find this song a bit hypnotic when I listen to it, and it helps me shift into a mindset for writing characters who have experienced weird and unfathomable things.

A band i really enjoy listening to! Makes me feel actively groovy and thought more might enjoy this band! This song in particular where you can treat someone bad but can't make them come back to you so it's a good song to make you realise not to gamble away what you have <3

Heeeey, I even found the squeaky clean version!
This has been stuck in my head since August! It reminded me of that surge of music that hit the mainstream in the 2000s, and now I find myself revisiting a playlist based on it at least once a week. Thatโ€™s quite the accomplishment and compliment to the band, given that my tastes usually lean toward pop, R&B, jazz, and classical.

Sometimes songs just make me happy. Happy because of the beat, the lyrics, the video. But it can be more than that, too. The memory of the first time I heard this song, the people I shared it with, and how I felt in those moments. It's like a gateway into going back to a specific mood, a time when things were light, easy, and fun into the late night, exchanging videos with friends and the giddiness from each new share.

So here's one of my feel goods, to new friendships and old. Watch the video, it's great.

This might be a bit of an odd one, I admit, but I had my dinner party playlist on during a quiet night-in with some friends this week and I think it just matched the โœจvibesโœจ we've all decided to take into the new year.

Uรฑa Ramos was a masterful Argentinean musician who specialised in Andean wind instruments, and a lot of his music carries serene and melancholic feels.

That's true for Camino de Llamas, too. Yeah, you could say that Uรฑa may have just been telling us about this one road in Argentina that has, like, a lot of llamas, but (and I haven't done a dive into the writing of this song at all) I think that on top of that he could have also been reflecting on some human experiences. For example;
  • Taking a journey - reflecting on how much I've grown over the last year reminds me of why I am so damn tired right now, but also hopeful that it's made me better prepared and more capable of tackling whatever 2026 throws at me.
  • A whole lotta llamas humans - it reminds me that we're not on the road alone, we're on it all together. Just a bunch of cute lil guys, making our way towards the juicier grass and warmer weather (I think that's what llamas like?)
  • Melancholic, but upbeat - I think that's what I need more of in 2026. I need some chill, with a good dash of hopefulness.
Anyways, I hope you all enjoy! I am a huge fane of the Andes Mountain Music genre, and I recommend it if you're looking for some nice n' easy tunes for a chill night.

-โœฎ- Bonus Song -โœฎ-

Here's a lil something, inspired by jumbee's cute lil piano badge~

I love this song. It's energy refills and helps me keep going when I'm feeling a bit down. To me it's like an emotional breakthrough that helps me keep pushing forward, and I believe the lyrics go in a similar direction, like she is singing about finding something that gives you a reason or meaning to keep going.
