Cyberpsychosis -
Shadowrun / cyberpunk
Synopsis.
With the advent age of cybernetics, human augmentation the line between what makes us human became more and more blurred. As with the changes, resurgance of magic and return of creatures once thought mere folklore, elves, orcs, trolls and those affected by SURGE. More and more of us, wewre driven into the dark, live fast and die young era of shadow running. From a mixture of corporate espionage and the threat of disavowment or worse were we ever discovered, termination.

With almost everyone to some degree being enhanced either by magic of machine, with the machine came the threat of cyberpsychosis and as of late the outbreaks have become much worse. With those who used their decks to interface with the web, right through to the streetsams. Former friends and colleagues suddenly turning on their own with a rage against all who were to some degree unaffected with vicious results. Containment soon drew the attention of those in more powerful areas, resuting in a designated blacksite known simply as AE36 covering the span of a large island. Corporations in the island continent were soon aware of their lost assets in the millions and now segregated through the web by a black ice wall, slowly the world held its breath for the infection to be contained while other areas worked on cures.

What they soon realised is that the blackice walls which in themselves were deadly to any who dared to try and breakthrough were failing faster than we were able to rebuild them and breaches began to occur resulting in nearby toaster farms to be the cause of a wide number of cyberzombie attacks. It wasnt long before authorities forced those who were enhanced to become registered, us shadowrunners who enjoyed our rather fringe life found things were harder to do our work. But then again buisness was booming and those who ran into the AE36 soon figured out that as long as you avoided all connections to the infected areas of the web, a physical barrier was the best defence.

The next step however we didn't plan for. The infected soon began to organize and from mindless violence began instead using a hive governed intelligence of all networked thoughts slowly began to capture, force-augment those who were not under its influence and merge them into its masses. It wasn't long before the awareness gained a name for itself, even the spirits were driven from the island itself and over the crackling of power. Attempts to disable power and services to AE36 were met with resistance, the next major breach came during a winter unlike anyother, heavy snow froze the surrounding waters and it wasn't long until Unity, the name the collective awareness called itself strode out and overrun resistance taking back with it any who were unlucky enough to be caught in their path.

The Next zone to be cornered off became another blackzone, locking in those who were unable to escape, known as AE37. Once more, locked on the inside were shadowrunners, civilians and those who weren't human into the melting pot. With food, supply drops being the priority targets for most criminal organizations, some of us trapped on the inside found growing work. However, with it came the risks and like clockwork - from sundown till sun up those former friends bound by unity were driven out. While the rest of us, fought by our nails to survive another night wether it was against ourselves or them outside. Inside the cyberspace it was harder to hide and as spirits found it harder to manifest, those of the magical orientation struggled as well.

Those above us see us as pawns in this scenario.
However, answers to ending it lie in the darkest places where only the most suicidal shadowrunners are willing to go.
