Background: Alaina was born the second child of a wealthy nobleman who owned and operated one of the more powerful merchant houses in the kingdom. Her mother died when she was young, and she grew up a bit of a tomboy, always following her father and older bother about and certainly getting into her share of trouble along the way. While she was left wanting for very little, very little is what she got, as if referred to love from her father, who always saw her as a bit more of a nuisance. Her older brother received all the attention, as he would someday inherit the company and the Titles…
When she turned 16, her father was more than happy to try and marry her off to a fat, old merchant, hoping to form a union of merchant houses that would only add to their prosperity. There was also the bonus that by marrying her off, he would finally be rid of her. Alaina didn't appreciate the gesture, and she rebelled before she finally ran, stowing away on a vessel headed out to see… She spent the next decade serving first on merchant vessels before signing onto a pirate crew.
Over the years she's served with several pirate captains on several ships. She was an experienced sailor and navigator, and a capable warrior. She'd picked up some skill from each crew she served with along the way, though she never held a position of authority, as no male captain would ever promote a woman to a such a position on their ship. Then the authorities finally caught up with her and the ship she served on. Betrayal from one within the crew, one who knew who she was and sold that information to her father's house. It didn't hurt that this ship and crew had been praying on her father's ships, thanks to her knowledge of how the company operated.
Calling on the favour of the king, a significant naval force was dispatched to ambush the ship, and once the cannons had quieted down and the smoke cleared the ship had been destroyed and had sunk beneath the ways with captain and most of the crew with it… But Alaina and a few others survived and managed to otherwise escape capture. Now she had a plan, and she would get her own ship and crew, and she would get her revenge on her father and his house. But first she needed a little help from a new friend…
