How fine you look when dressed in Rage
How long had it been since she was actually in love with him?
She looked towards her boyfriend on the couch at that moment.
He smiled at her, crinkles forming at the corners of his eyes. They twinkled just looking at her.
He still adored her.
He was the one to fall in love with her first, after all. They had only been dating a few months when he told her.
Flattered as she was, she had been burned in the past so it took her awhile to trust, let alone love.
But eventually she did.
Forcing a smile in return, she met his gaze for just a moment before looking back at her phone.
That had been so long ago.
The last year or so though… her feelings started to wane.
Did she still love him? Yes. She loved him as a person and a best friend of ten years.
But it was the 'in' love that eventually fizzled out.
She suddenly started to see all his flaws, things about him that made her life an inconvenience. Some were just her brain finding something to split hairs about. Yet others that would be a deal breaker long ago for many people.
Their lives were so intertwined now, though. They had a house together. Pets adopted together. An unfathomable amount of belongings they bought together. Shared accounts and bills. Neither could afford to live on their own.
Shared lives. Woven together so tight it seemed impossible to untangle and would need to be cut instead.
Ten years of her life was given to him. That he gave her in return.
But that 'in' love was gone now. She barely wanted to spend time with him in the same room on an every day basis, let alone share a bed.
Half of her felt trapped, screaming to get out.
The other half lamented what they once had, and maybe… just maybe, it could come back.
How could this have happened?
How could she let him know without breaking his heart?
What was she going to do?
…she didn't know.
