A female killer blends neatly into the real world. She works for a video game design company and lives in a neat apartment with her black cat. She keeps a low social life spent with her best friend who she has known since they were in high school together. The two of them are intertwined in a history that no one would have suspected and their senior year at a private school the killer did something to make sure her best friend would always be protected, but it set a path that the killer couldn't pull herself away from. Now, she has set her eyes on those who wish to harm the world and she wants to stop them before they can do anymore damage. Her best friend is lost in her own artistic career, but is hiding a killer secret of her own.
A male killer who has built the strongest bond with his brother because of a choice that they made together. He chooses to kill those that threaten to tamper with his city while his brother is contracted to kill those his boss decides to repay their debt of him saving their lives. What did they do that's so bad? They killed their abusive father in hopes that they could live happier lives. The killer seems to be happy opening his first restaurant and riding the world of pest while the contract is continually trying to keep his brother safe.
So, what happens when their worlds collide? The two killers come across each other in an unexpected way, but find a spark they had never felt before. So, he decides he doesn't want to lose a chance of seeing her ever again; he creates a game every year where his brother provides a target and the first one to eliminate their victim wins. But excitement of the kill isn't the only thing keeping them coming back to one another.
This story is based on the book Butcher & Blackbird where two killers who specifically target other killers begin a game and find that they are falling for another.
