⸻⠀Story⠀⸻
Mayna was born within a small clan of Dark Elves who lived in the mountains to the Northwest of the fortress of Tethis. The clan lived a relatively simple existence as hunters/gatherers dwelling in an area of ruins from long, long ago. While the clan worshipped a dark god, they were mostly a peaceful people, self-reliant and isolationists.

This change one day when human prospectors from Tethis discovered veins of silver and copper in the area they dwelled. Those humans decided to set up an operation to mine those resources, despite the dark elves' resistance to the intrusion in what the clan considered their sacred homeland. The elves began to fight, ultimately shutting down the mine's operations for a few weeks. But the mine's owners, who were ranking members of the Miner's Guild in Tethis hired mercenaries to wipe the dark elves out. After a few months their task was complete (though some elves, mostly women and children fled deeper into the mountain), and the mine resumed operations.

Sometime after this a ranking member of the elite (Lord Adraminas) who was part-owner the mine was visiting the operation along with the nearby ruins under escort, and he stumbled upon Mayna and her mother Vinyamar, who were foraging for scraps of food discarded from the mine operation to keep from starving. The escorting soldiers were about to put them to death, but the Lord was taken by Vinyamar's beauty, and he instead took her into his household as a concubine…

Not quite slaves in the literal sense, they were nonetheless at Lord Adramina's mercy over the years that followed. Her mother embraced the new life, knowing in the wilds they both would have died had they not been found. So drawn to the man she has even given birth to two children by him. Mayna was not quite so taken by the man, and she hated her knew life, her human Lord, and her half-breed siblings. Despite living a rather luxurious existence that included a proper lady's education she grew very rebellious, constantly getting into trouble… She never forgave those involved for the attack on her people, an attack that led to the death of her father, and despite the Lord's wishes, she's taken her father's clan name (Thurinwethil) as her own…

By the time she reached eighteen years of age she left the Lord's estate, though she sometimes returns to visit with her mother, usually when she's in need of money or something else she cannot steal or get on her own.

Mayna recalls the stories of the Dark God who had been their patron, a god of outcasts, and she carries a small statuette made of silver with copper inland. The statuette is so worn with age the features of it are barely discernable. Over the past few years she has sought out knowledge of this forgotten god, his name and of the people who had worshipped him long ago.
