Nomad New face, old hobby

Hello hello! Honestly, I've never been good at writing these types of posts, but I figure the easiest way to ease into a new community is with an intro!

I started roleplaying in the 2000s on various forums, and it quickly became one of my favorite pastimes. Over time, though, all of the places I used to frequent started going the way of the dinosaur. The slow death of forums and life in general conspired to make me an on-again, off-again roleplayer. It's been maybe two years since I last dedicated any serious time to RP, though I still write for myself. Now that life has settled down and I've got more time on my hands, I've decided to sniff around and see if there's still any good ol' forums active, which was how I stumbled across this place!

About me... Well, I'm an Artist (painting and sculpture, specifically), graduated art school ages ago. Sadly it didn't funnel me directly into any creative jobs, so these days I'm in IT. Outside of that, I watch too many movies (especially horror, low-budget sword and sorcery nonsense, and European pulp from the likes of Rollin, Franco and Argento), listen to loud, abrasive music (lifelong goth/metalhead), buy too many fountain pen inks that I'll probably never get the chance to use up, play the occasional video game (any disco elysium fans out there?) and read a lot of historical fiction & nonfiction.

RP-wise, I've always been a big chunky paragraph writer. I prefer slow burn plots with a heavy focus on character development (and a dash of romance), and gravitate towards historical and fantasy settings. But I'll save the details for my RP search post :-) I'm looking forward to finding at least one or two long term 1x1 partners on here!

Life kept doing what life does, so I get where you’re coming from more than a little. It’s always a pleasure seeing someone with deep roots wander back in!

I think you'll find many of us chunky para writers with a love for anything both old and magical in here. Here’s to once more finding that original RP dopamine high — the one that convinced all of us to stay up far too late writing “just one more paragraph.”

Second! I bet you're wondering how to start Role Playing and where to go! I think it's pretty fun to explore the forums, and I highly recommend doing so! Most thread homes, if not all, have a pinned post at the top of them to tell you what goes there!

However, the Request Threads are pretty self explanatory; Here's a Link! There's plenty to look through, but you could also build your very own! Tell people what you're all about and get those writing partners! Take your time though; there's never any pressure! Next, I've created A Sanctum Tour to help find a lot of cool places on site! There's plenty to do while waiting on replies or to give yourself a break every now and then! It's a bit bittersweet, isn't it. :'-) I've got so many fond memories of forums that are so Gone that not even the wayback machine can dig up any scraps of them. But I'm glad the hobby is still being kept alive, even if it's a bit more niche these days. It is pretty comforting to hear that there are other active roleplayers who've been around the block and remember the same cycle of sites coming and going!

I'm super excited to shake the rust off and start writing with folks again. And a happy 2026 to you too, hope it's full of fun RPs worth staying up that extra hour for!
