Eliah was born as the second of eight children, to a poor, Jewish family on the Isle. Birmingham was rough and dangerous and after the death of the oldest child at merely ten, the father decided that he didn't want to raise his children there. He and his wife worked hard to save enough money for the passage to the United States. It was, after all, the promised land, the land where everyone could live free. Quite some Jews had gathered across the pond from what he heard and this was enough for the family to pack their bags and leave the old home behind.
They arrived in New York City in 1910 and quickly found a new home among the Irish-Jewish community in The Bronx. After all, Elijah's father hailed from Ireland and they were more than welcome.
But as it was, times were rough and money was short and it didn't take long for Eliah's father to work for various gangs in the area. Smuggling, deliveries. Everything that would keep a roof over his family's heads and food in their mouths. Eliah followed soon, running 'errands' for some local capo and it was just this capo who noticed the young man's talent for numbers. Eliah never went to school, but he always had been good when it came to money and numbers. The years went by and the young man turned out quite capable. He even could support his mother and siblings after his father was killed in a shootout in 1920.
Eliah got married in 1923 to a good, Jewish girl. Despite what he truly desired, certain things had to be done to avoid people asking questions about why such a fine young man did not have a wife and children. During the years he honed his skills with books and numbers, with weapons and with how to speak. He could be so very charming if he bothered to try. It opened quite some doors.
Present time:
In 1929, he was already involved with various Italian Mobsters who relied on his talent with numbers, despite his Jewish heritage or maybe because of it. He knew that he never would be 'made', but that wasn't important to him. He made enough money to take care of his wife Rebecca and their two children. By now, his skills had earned him the nickname "Il Mago"- The Wizzard.
Rumour has it that Elijah is involved with a certain Lucky Luciano and his gang. It might be the reason why he is often found at "Booker's Tavern', a Speakeasy in Hell's Kitchen. But perhaps he just likes to drink and gamble? Either way, little is known about Elijah, but the rumour on the street keeps claiming that he is one of Signor Luciano's best bookies and occasional bodyguard.
He was aware that his life was dangerous. Conflict was out on the streets among the many Italian families in the Big Apple but he loved the tension and danger. Daring ever since he wouldn't want it any other way.
