It wasn't like I'd pictured a lot.
I'd seen lots of media in my time about what it was supposed to be like. Clouds, angels, harp music, endless white. I'm not sure I was all for it, it seemed a little pointless and boring.
I mean, there were other options, but they all boiled down to that.
I wouldn't have minded the blandness of it all, if I felt ready to 'go to the light' or whatever.
I wasn't though.
I was in what I thought of as mid-life. I still had so many things to do, so much more to give- to my kids, my grandkids, my family.
All it took was a series of stupid events, and the mashing of metal.
I watched with morbid fascination as life saving measures were taken, right next door to the barely 20 something guy from the other macabre machine dance we'd tangled in.
Well, whatever cosmic nonsense there is out there, boy did it screw up BIG time.
While my physical body couldn't be rescued from the mess it was in, and I closed my eyes to just accept the aggravating fate- the screw-up took place.
When I opened my eyes, ready to look out a big bright white nothingness and 'follow the light', all it did was resolve into a nasty double strip of fluorescent bulbs.
I was confused at first. I'd seen them all stop working. There was the light.
It took several days and finally getting to stand up to realize- I wasn't me.
I was him.
