Act 1
the 1st year would really be about them just getting to know each other and forming some sort of trust, he'd be really getting her out of her shell very slowly and more interactive with Hawke's party.
the 2nd year would be her realizing she has family there and getting in touch with them, mainly her sister and grandmother. Honestly she'd probably remove her horns this early just to avoid discrimination.
the 3rd year would be her healing her scars and getting involved in a little dancing community, with her slowly stepping away from the mercenary life for once and just taking a break.

  • Katari first met this broody elf during his recruitment mission, as she was part of the party decided for that mission. She instantly could relate to his situation and was an avid supporter of the party continuing this mission, even if Hawke wouldn't have accepted she would've stayed to help him regardless. While his aversion to her would be obvious and he'd be so riled up, she wouldn't get very worked up herself and would be surprisingly patient with him and his behavior. She'd understand his fear and distrust so she'd be much more gentle when it comes to debating magic and things in general with him, honestly interested in educating him with the way circles ran here. She'd be very open and honest as well, which would be huge for the very private woman who even Varric couldn't dig much info on. She'd take a huge interest in him and would want to make sure he settles into Kirkwall as good as he can, so she would've went to visit him immediately that night with supplies in order to make sure he had necessities. She'd also be persistent when it comes to helping him clean the manor and disposing of all the demons, not taking no for an answer. She'd be nowhere near wealthy but would have made a good name for herself working with the Fade's Finest, so that paired with her crush on this man would lead to her being very generous and insistent to help him however she could. Like getting him in touch with her guild, which would give her more of an excuse to spend time with him as well and something her guildmates would take notice of. She'd just be checking in on him a lot during these 3 years and truly wanting to get to know him more, even flirting from time to time. While a lot of his comments would hurt her feelings and he'd probably get worked up, she'd remain calm and optimistic in changing his mind on mages just by sharing her experiences and of those she has known. She'd be very protective of him when it comes to the group as well, especially when it comes to Anders. His sarcastic nature would surprise her but draw her to him more, allowing them to engage in playful and witty banter.
  • Fenris would be very wary and distrustful to her right off the back, but I want to steal the majority of his infatuation with Hawke onto my character because she'd need the more "patient" side they get. It wouldn't be present that first meeting given how covered up she was, a complete mystery so to speak, but her soft and gentle voice would spark an interest. He'd be insistent on deciding what manner of mage she was and if she could be trusted, so he'd be surprised at how understanding she is... Anytime he'd try to contradict her or trap her into a corner, to reveal these inner dark thoughts she must have would just surprise him and lead to him feeling guilty for even prying. Her showing up on his door would be unexpected and even if he wished for her to leave she'd force her way inside, little wooden wagon behind her full of things for him. I can see him being very taken back by her generosity and feeling the need to repay her, which might lead to them "arguing" about what he could do. Outside of Hawke's party we learn he takes quests around Kirkwall to make coin and I can see her hooking him up, most likely getting him in touch with her little guild to set him up with steady work; this would also allow them more chances to fight together. He'd get to see just how far she's willing to go in order for him to trust her, like working on not solely relying on blood magic itself when around him. This would lead to a hesitant friendship, I feel like he'd be conflicted with the soft and gentle side of her he seems to get more than the party does. Her kindness wouldn't be expected and would make things so difficult considering her magic and what she is. They'd most likely bond over their knowledge of qunari culture as well, he might've shared more of his stories with her. She'd just be so approachable that he might find himself sharing things he never thought he would.
Act 2
the 4th year would be the start of their romance and break of it, causing her to shatter and feel like maybe she needs to run. But she'd persist to support Fenris and make sure he was free, supporting him as a friend.
the 5th year would be when she's alerted to Alderic's presence in the city, mainly his involvement with horrible things and apparent disinterest in her. She'd be fighting demons of the past in her mind, "home" would be calling her.
the 6th year would be her isolating pretty good and going back to her mysterious ways, even working extra hard to avoid Varric's own connections around the city. She'd be considering turning herself into the circle.

  • 3 years would've passed now between the two and there's a lot of changes, starting off Katari might've had her horns removed and become elf passing (otherwise it would've happened before this act). They'd be practically inseparable at this point with how much time she'd spend with him, as much as he'd allow honestly. He'd be her absolute favorite person and very high when it comes to valued friends, loving him dearly but being too afraid to make a move on him. Things would be much lighter between them and he'd know the majority of her past, with her feeling open enough to share absolutely anything he asked and just everything honestly. It would be uncommon for them to not be included on missions together with Hawke, unless Isabela was present. So she would be there when yet again more slavers attempt to take him back, she'd be right there defending him with the others and ready to face whatever he needed. She'd have a really hard time with him disappearing as well, I'd imagine it was for quite some time and she'd be scared that he had decided to flee Kirkwall and was gone for good. That would be the start of their romance for sure and she'd be devastated, with them discussing each other and her giving him her favor only for him to leave. She'd be struggling with her own demons and wouldn't want to bother anyone with her issues, but especially Fenris and things would be a bit awkward between them after he ends things. Even still it wouldn't take her long to come back around and still want to spend time together, they'd just need some help getting over that awkward stage. She'd still be so supportive of him and would enjoy their debates, but his words would be affecting her even more so and weighing on her mind. Especially things he's said in the past and times of great trouble, things he didn't mean. His friendship with Sebastian would be something she'd be hesitant with, mainly because he'd share private things that Fenris said in confidence and that weren't directed towards her or meant for her ears. Sebastian would be one of the biggest whispers in her ears to let Fenris go. She'd also be struggling with being introduced to noble society and deciding if that was what she wanted, to live under her mother's control like that.
  • Fenris would definitely be comfortable with her at this point, they'd be very close and he'd be keenly aware of his growing interest in her and even engaging in flirty banter with her. I think he'd be really good at the hard conversations with her and just overprotective for sure, considering she was a mage in a dangerous city. I think he'd have a hard time with her removing her horns and seemingly erasing that side of her, especially with the way others treated her changing a lot as she was now seemingly an attractive elven woman. He'd definitely be dragged into noble affairs with her as well, most likely her offering him a handsome fee to be her bodyguard just so they can spend more time together. I think he'd be drawn to the places she's at and would find himself discussing her more often with friends, especially Domeric though and Anders when that time comes. He'd be really struggling with his feelings and what that would look like because of his trauma, nothing related to her but things he needed to work out if he wanted to be there for her. That's a big reason to why their relationship would end so suddenly and he'd feel like it was best, he'd need to truly be free of Danarius to even consider a life. Both of them would be too awkward to be in the same space for a while, that would take some friendly intervention and it wouldn't take them long to become good friends again. He's perceptive and would notice these big changes in her, I think he'd also notice the way she stepped back from being so open with him about everything. All things considered, he's pretty observant and good with communication so I feel like he'd try to figure out that wall between them. I think he'd be pretty panicked when she steps so far back from everyone as well. He'd also notice how her magic wasn't working and just how big that was, I think he'd know her better than whatever excuses she was using.
Act 3
the 7th year would be her turning point, after Fenris is finally free she'd be tempted to leave Kirkwall with Alderic. She wouldn't want to drag Fenris down, he was free and a life with her wasn't fair.
  • this is the year of chaos and Fenris would be really struggling with Katari's distance I think, but especially after they handle Danarius together and he's finally free. He'd catch onto her acting differently afterwards and I don't think he'd let her slip off alone, would probably insist on walking her home that night. He'd really want them to get together to discuss things but she'd be hard to track down, it would take work convincing her to come to his manor so they can talk. He also might've found out from Varric the templar she seemed to be worried about, as Fenris would know the name and they'd both be able to put together what this man means. I feel like this information would leave her with no choice but to share as she couldn't hide that from him anymore. This would lead to her biggest mission as well since she wouldn't be strong enough to confront Alderic but also wouldn't want him to kill this man.

Aliases: princess, Fujiwara-hime, lady
Name: Aratani Fujiwara
Name Meaning: "precious jewel" ; "wysteria field"
Nicknames: the spoiled princess, Momoiro
Birthdate: February 24th
Age: 1,800
Gender: cisgender
Sexuality: heterosexual
Height: 5'3
Weight: 140lbs
Race: 9 tailed fox goddess
Occupation: princess/heir
Looks:
Aratani has light peach skin and a hourglass shaped body with very large breasts, while her behind is rather grabbable. Her long pink hair falls just below her breasts and messy bangs frame her face, two ring like braids on either side of her head and decorated with sakura blossoms. Both her ears and two tails match the color of her hair and are rather thin, often compared to a cat and not a fox. She has a thin round shaped face with large blue eyes. Her body is free of blemishes with smooth skin, however parts are decorated in intricate blue tattoos [x]
When it comes to her fox form she is exceptionally small and very fluffy, more akin to the size of a kit than a fully grown fox! Her fur becomes a more dusty pink and she has heian white eyebrows, her eyes slitted and very hard to see the blue. When she does draw more power she can manage two tails and a sakura flower appears above her eyebrows. Changing size is hard but she is able to become the average size of a fully grown female fox, although with the effort her tails are stuck together [x]

Personality
Aratani is a notorious troubemaker known for all manners of mischief, especially to those unable to retaliate in any form. She's spoiled and very self assured when it comes to her looks, to the point some make the assumption that she is vain. Despite being capable of respectful interactions she very much would rather behave like a spoiled brat, used to everything being handed to her when she wants it. Curious by nature she tends to pry into other's affairs and is very fond of gossip and being in the loop, paired with a cheerful attitude and a lack of boundaries/personal space. Aratani is blunt with her words and has no trouble speaking her mind, brutal honesty in which she means well. She's prone to cheeky comments and far too many sassy moments to count! All in all she's very extroverted and talkative with a preference for laidback interactions free of tradition, paired with a stubborn nature and a childish hatred to losing.

|Fujiwara Clan|
  • A family of pink foxes who were almost wiped out once upon a time, the only survivor of this massacre was Momoiro and her two young daughters. Due to their exceptional beauty and once high reputation they have agreed to marry into the Yoshikane family, all except for Momoiro who wishes to remain a widow.

Momoiro, grandmother: widow
  • An ancient pink fox whose hair has since faded to white and the only survivor of her clan’s massacre, most of her life remains a mystery. Preferring to keep to herself she is always on edge and alert for any chance of trouble. While mostly calm and dignified there remains a childish youthfulness seen once a moon. She appears to be courting Kasetsu, but doesn’t seem to be making any progress.

Airi, mother: married to Kaneyuki Yoshikane
  • The eldest daughter to Momoiro, she has no memories of the massacre of her family or who her father was. Airi always has a dignified air around her and treats others with respect and courtesy. One of the kindest beauties you will ever meet, however she hides her true feelings well and never lets her mask fall.

  • Airi and Kaneyuki’s eldest daughter and the chosen heir to her clan, all thanks to her paternal aunt. Full of life and mischief she’s never seen without a smile, many have fallen to her pranks! Currently her power is rather unstable and she only has two of her nine tails.

Sakura, sister:
single
  • Airi and Kaneyuki’s second child and a very dignified young woman, it is often talked about how she should’ve been the chosen heir to the Yoshikane clan. Sakura is very talented and the perfect example of how a lady should act, due to this she is her father’s favored daughter. Sakura is very strict and known to scold both her younger sisters. Many young men wish for her hand in marriage but her father has bigger plans for her.

  • Airi and Kaneyuki’s youngest child and the most spoiled, without any huge expectations on her shoulders she is free to act however she wishes. Umeko only interacts with those worthy of her status and is known to spread gossip rather mercilessly. Despite this she has her moments of kindness, well a little! Akemi, aunt:
married to Fuyuki Yoshikane
  • Momoiro’s youngest daughter and survivor of their massacre, she was just an infant when it happened. A sly woman who has always lived in Airi’s shadow, causing a bit of a twisted personality. Rather devious she’s always looking for trouble or the latest gossip, any chance to rise above her sister. Akemi was previously married to Tomoyuki Yoshikane before he was banished from his family, due to refusing to conceive more than one child with his wife. Due to this she was remarried to Fuyuki instead.

Kanon, cousin:
celebate
  • Akemi’s firstborn child and older twin to Rina, she is believed to be the biological daughter of Tomoyuki but her father is in fact Shion Aoyama which is a secret heavily guarded and known by few. Kanon is very much her mother’s daughter and is cunning and not to be trifled with, getting a sick thrill putting others in their place. She is aware of her complicated parentage and knows how lucky she is to be recognized as a Yoshikane. Kanon has a very close friendship with the Inari Okami and has dedicated her life to the ways of a priestess, honoring her specific shrine. Knowing how intense family traditions are and she would’ve been forced into an arranged marriage, Kanon has chosen to take a vow of celibacy.

"celebate"
  • Akemi’s second born child and younger twin to Kanon, he has chosen to follow in his sister’s footsteps and dedicated his services to the Inari Okami’s shrine as a priest. Rina is very intelligent and just as cunning as his sister, however he’s more interested in creating trouble rather than bending others to his will. It is believed that he has taken a vow of celibacy but he has in fact not, cultivating this rumor himself to avoid an arranged marriage. Rina is known to be quite mysterious and very charming, attracting a lot of female attention.

Sakutaro, cousin:
single
  • Akemi’s third child and believed to be Fuyuki’s son, he was the result of a calculated affair involving Kinshirou Yoshikane, a man his mother couldn’t tie down. Sakutaro is much more laid back than his mother and attempts to be careful when it comes to his mischief. Despite his best efforts to keep his personal interests hidden, his promiscuous habits involving both genders are widely known and anything but a secret. Sakutaro isn’t well liked by the Yoshikane family which he could care less about, especially since his mother spoils him and his “father” requires nothing from him. He is allowed to choose his own path in life and to make his own decisions.

Ayaka, cousin:
single
  • Akemi’s youngest daughter and the only biological daughter of Fuyuki’s, thanks to her father’s choices she isn’t required to follow family traditions and has much more freedom than her cousins are allowed. Due to this Ayaka is very laid back and doesn’t have to worry about her preference in modern clothing, or being forced into marriage. Ayaka is quite a bit of a loner and prefers making friends with her region’s citizens rather than the nobles, finding them more down to earth like herself. Despite her behavior and choices in life, she is very much loved by the Yoshikane family and doesn’t get lectured very often.
  • Ayaka is still figuring out her sexuality but she’s pretty sure she’s a lesbian.
  • Ayaka means "colorful petal"

  • Nicknames
    • Katari, alias:
      • this means "one who brings death" in qunlat and is how she introduces herself to people, essentially her chosen name. Due to the difficult life she's lived and what she has to do to survive, she feels as if everyone dies around her and she has been cursed. Her self-esteem is pretty low and on top of that, she feels as if Kaelyn has died.
    • Lamb, Varric:
      • this is what he settled on for her and was rather proud of, given that she is anything but naive and defenseless. She really enjoys it though and finds it to be cute, even if she seems like she doesn't enjoy it. It's a very kind nickname and one she feels she doesn't deserve, being compared to a cute and innocent creature.
    • Mystery, Varric:
      • when she first met the dwarf she refused to give her name and even with all his resources, none of his sources could gather her name nor would her friends betray her. So, this was the placeholder nickname he gave her until he could call her something better. He does still call her this every so often and she enjoys it.
    • Winter, Anders:
      • while in the circle she wasn't permitted to use her name, due to corrupt templars bullying her and so she stubbornly complied and didn't give herself one. This was something that Anders called her while they were children and was meant as a jab, due to their constant bickering. This caught on with the others due to her cold and bitter personality but she accepted it, as Karl called her this and was kind to her. It brings her back too many memories and a life she wishes she could forget, so she doesn't like it.
    • Vakh, paternal family:
      • this means "watchful" in qunlat and was the nickname given to her by her grandfather, a very traditional Tal-Vashoth that still followed a lot of the qun. She was not referred to by her actual name very often as a child with them, which she honestly loved. She is still very fond of this and would be open to people calling her this, it's another name she might introduce herself as over Kaelyn

  • | Act 1 |
Katari is an incredibly mysterious and reserved woman who keeps to herself, even when working together with allies. She has intense trust issues when it comes to others and while she doesn't discriminate others due to their race, has seen the worst in humans and so she is incredibly wary of them and takes longer to warm up. She doesn't like for people to know who she is and takes her identity very seriously, especially considering how dangerous Kirkwall's own city walls are for a qunari so she doesn't want to give citizens the ability to recognize her. She prefers to watch those around her and is very observant because of this, picking up on body language especially. She is so guarded that she doesn't really remember what it is like to open up to others, with her self-esteem so low that she feels like she doesn't deserve to socialize. After all she's just a monster and monsters don't deserve to have friends or connections. She's also just not interested in forging new connections, it takes a lot for her to be interested in someone. Even still she is very cooperative and a great ally, believing strongly in teamwork and going as far as to work around her allies which shows she has a good mind for combat.

When it does come to those she cares for she is fiercely loyal and protective, willing to sacrifice her life and do anything in order to keep them safe. They are the only ones who get to see her soft and gentle side, something she keeps hidden away because it is viewed as a weakness and something people can take advantage of. She is very affectionate as well and craves physical touch, just connecting with people that have earned her trust. She is a genuinely kind and empathetic woman who understands others plights, even if she hasn't directly experienced them herself. She doesn't fault people for things that they couldn't control and is surprisingly open minded, when it comes to more difficult topics. She loves giving and helping others when she can and has affectionately been referred to as 'mothering' her loved ones, which does embarrass her a bit. She also finds it hard to not get involved when someone is in need, even if they don't have the coin to pay her back so emotional guilt is very effective against her. Despite being an excellent judge of character there are things that slip past her, especially when disguised under a kindness and place of need. She's very wise and is a great source of comfort, whether you just need a shoulder to cry on or wish for her personal advice. She does have a playful nature and enjoys witty banter!

Her biggest struggle is her self-hatred which is deep rooted, from her own mother not accepting her to the way she was treated in the circle. She was conditioned to feel this way and even while she has nothing against other qunari or even mixed races, she can't seem to extend this to herself. She doesn't know how to settle or stay put because it's never been an option, something always happens and forces her to leave places she thought were safe. She's seen the worst in the world and has had to be violent in order to survive, she's had to take care of herself. So it's really hard for her to lean on her friends and the people that truly care for her. She also struggles with PTSD which can make her moods erratic, some situations even lead to her disassociating from reality and getting stuck in her head. When this happens she tends to simply shut down and can even go mute. She doesn't want to be a bother to people she has care for. A lot of her guarded body language revolves around her struggle with her appearance and having to hide.

    Fighting Style

    • Katari is very much a mage meaning she benefits from long distance and staying out of reach, casting her spells and relying on her allies when able. She doesn't carry a staff which does weaken her magic, something she levels out with lyrium potions and blood magic. She is capable of fighting with 2 large daggers kept on her back but her ability to duel wield is very limited, it mainly depends on her getting the jump on her enemy as well as her willpower and if she's taking damage just to deal damage you know? She's not quick and despite her size she isn't exceptionally strong in battle, she's not good against warriors. She was taught some techniques for hand to hand from Gatt, mainly how to off-balance enemies bigger or stronger than her, as well as how to make opportunities for herself. It isn't very often she finds herself that close and personal though and she'll combine this technique with her spells.
    Equipment
    • Katari wears light to medium armor because it's all her body can really handle, but she will pair this with pieces of heavy equipment for added protection. She tends to wear less armor in a2 & a3 though, especially when she begins working in different places and doesn't have to hide.

this wasn't her first type of magic nor the element she was attuned to the most, rather it was the most important magic taught to her during her time in the circle. Being a pawn of the mage-templar drama within the circle, Uldred made sure that she was taught it. She was a terrible student because she couldn't practice on the animals the others did, so in secret she learned from a demon in the fade. She does not use this on allies, it is reserved only for enemies that come for her life.

    • Demonic Pact—> she has had a pact with a Pride demon since she was in her early teens however, this demon has plagued her nightmares long before she conquered her fears. This is a very complex relationship where it finds her amusing and relishes in her "worship" and demands sacrifices, which he believes she does (when in reality, she just kills her enemies). They are still in a constant battle of control, no matter how tame it appears or content with her.
    • Dream Influence—> she is able to enter another's mind when they are asleep, allowing her to attempt to influence or dominate their thoughts. This depends on their will, how much power she has at the time and her ability to conquer the dream itself. She also can just participate in these dreams as a visitor, which is a big method of gaining information for her by pretending to be something different. She really only uses this spell for intel because it's stressful.
    • Blood Magic—> by wounding herself or taking advantage of a wound, she can use her blood to fuel her magic and enhance it like lyrium would. She cannot be healed while doing this and only afterwards, with healing being limited afterwards for quite a bit of time. This is very risky and something she doesn't like to do, she'd honestly prefer lyrium potions to this. Due to the life she has lived and how normal pain is, she does have Bloodlust which lessens her wounds which lets her cast more frequently while in this state, which is more dangerous for her.
    • Blood Wound/Hemorrhage—> she focuses on a group of her enemies in order to boil the very blood in their body, causing severe pain and damage. Targets will be immobilized and twitching if they don't pass a resistance check. With enough focus she can make this spell more powerful and paraylze her enemy.
    • Blood Control—> she picks an unfortunate victim and takes control over their blood, forcing their body to follow her commands and fight for her. This requires her entire focus and leaves her vulnerable should she succeed. This is advanced to the point where she can send this enemy into more and kill them by exploding, which causes damage to those around.
    • Grave Robber—> she is able to draw out the life force from nearby corpses in order to regain her own life, healing herself. She also can drain this from the living but it is incredibly dangerous as she has to remain focused on the target and ensure an ally doesn't get caught in the crossfire.

this is a magic that specifically gives the ability to cure and defend allies however, it is a little different for Katari. This is her specialty and where her natural ability truly lies and in order for her to get in touch with it these spells are tied to her emotions, so they emit a specific color when used that is different than most mages. She likes to call this Aura magic instead and would use this magic more when she's able to let go of the control she feels, when she is finally able to relax and support her party rather than cause damage. Most of these spells require her full focus and leave her vulnerable so there's a lot of trust and teammwork with them.

    • Heal—> this one is as simple as it sounds, allowing her to put together flesh and mend bone. This is meant specifically for physical wounds and is a vibrant green, giving off a warm feeling of love and care when utilized. She is a really good healer and has practiced a lot with Anders.
    • Rejuvenate—> she envelops her target in a bright yellow aura, which boosts their respective mana or stamina.
    • Regeneration—> this infuses her targeted ally with her own magic, green and warm which accelerates their health regeneration for a short time. This would tie into the amount of mana she pours into them!
    • Mass Rejuvenation—> she channels her magic with an intense focus that leaves her vulnerable, allowing her to wrap all of her comrades with rejuvenating energy that boosts their mana and stamina regeneration immensely. This also extends to her and works on top of rejuvenate itself.
    • Heroic Offense—> she sends her magic into an ally in order to enhance their battle aptitude, which grants an attack bonus.
    • Heroic Aura—> she sheathes her ally in a pink shielding aura, allowing them to shrug off the majority of missile attacks
    • Heroic Defense—> she shields her ally in a pink aura which grants them a defense/elemental resistance at the cost to their fatigue, so they have to put more energy into their attacks. This is something she does carefully because she isn't here to weaken her allies, so she tries to time this when she notices incoming damage or when an ally needs protection before help can get to them.
    • Haste—> she envelops the entire party in an orange aura which boosts their general speed and attack, at a small cost to their damage and her own mana.
    • Spellbloom—> this is an energizing bloom of magic that grants all nearby a bonus to mana regeneration, friend and foe. Something she only uses when helping in Anders clinic honestly.

while this falls under Creation magic, it involves writing out a symbol into the ground and so it's very different. Katari struggles immensely when it comes to remembering these and so she has them in her journal and often has to study them beforehand, making this her slowest magic yet. Not to mention it requires setup time and stealth so she doesn't like using it, unless it's in creative ways like coating her throwing knives in her blood and tossing them at enemies to directly hit them. It was something the circle tried desperately to teach her but just couldn't drill into her, so she's practiced it for years.

    • Paralysis—> she draws this symbol onto her throwing weapons with her own blood, before aiming them and hopefully hitting her target. Once it's hit it activates and paralyzes her target. This is one that she can do up to 3x as well! She can give these to her allies to use, or even draw them onto their own respective weapon like Varric's arrow. One of the hardest for her to draw so she likes to do it ahead of time.
    • Warding—> she draws this symbol onto her ally in order to bestow them with defense/mental resistance/missile attack bonuses. This technically doesn't have to be blood and could just be her magic, but she's not capable of that in A1 and it would take some time to simply use her magic. Blood is life and where her magic is the strongest, so it just makes sense for her. This is one she is willing to set up for as well.
    • Repulsion—> by drawing this specific symbol with her blood onto a weapon, once it hits her enemy it'll knock them back~!
    • Neutralization—> one of the only ones she'll put onto the ground and by far the toughest and most time-consuming spell, it also takes the most blood to truly be effective and reliable. If she can pull it off this prevents magic from being cast in these bounds by dispelling all effects/draining mana/preventing spellcasting and mana regeneration within these bounds. This would only be used in an expected ambush, otherwise I think the only time she'd use it would be A3 when they face Danarius and she'd apply it to a nonvisible spot on Fenris or onto his weapon.

this was another magic taught to her by Uldred, in order to ensure that she could fight other mages should they dare to rise up against him. She has a lot of dark memories with this magic and so she doesn't like to use it unless there's no choice, that it's absolutely vital because of the PTSD associated with it. This was also something that Andena had been more adept with so some of these spells were taught by them.

    • Weakness—> this is a spell that drains the target of their energy while also applying penalties to their attack/defense/reducing movement speed unless they pass a physical resistance check. It's a black colored magic that she really only uses against other mages, it doesn't cross her mind to use it in other cases very often.
    • Miasma—> she is surrounded by a dark cloud of black magic, radiating weakness that hinders nearby enemies attack and defenses as well as their movement speed. This also interferes with their vision and she'll apply this spell when charged at by a large group of enemies while she's alone, mainly used when they think they have the jump on her but don't truly. She doesn't know how to dispel this one so it hangs around until it naturally clears enough, which depends on how much negative energy she put out there and the magic put into the spell itself.
    • Misdirection Hex—> she casts a spell of inaccuracy against her target so that all normal hits don't land and a critical is a basic attack. She's more prone to use this one against non-mage enemies as well as it comes in handy when they approach her long ranged allies.
    • Death Hex—> this spell is lethal bad luck and directed onto her target causes every attack they experience to be a critical hit. She doesn't like the power that this spell has and is terrified of accidentally hitting an ally so she's extremely careful when she is willing to use this spell. It's reserved for troublesome mages or extremely difficult enemies.
    • Disorient—> this is a spell of mental manipulation that disrupts the thought process and confuses her target for a short period of time, making them a less effective combatant due to the attack and defense penalties they face. It's a quick spell that requires her or an ally to take advantage of as it happens, so it is something she uses when fighting together or when she is fighting 1 on 1. This isn't the most effective against stronger mages either, but it works really good on the confused or highly emotional ones. Like this would work against blood mages and scared mages, but wouldn't be very effective when it comes to Danarius or the mages he brings to fight.
    • Horror—> this is a spell she is very good at and another mental manipulation, where she gets into her targets head and leaves them cowering in fear until they can overcome whatever apparition she has sent their way. It is unavoidable to those she has put to sleep. This is one of her best spells and really showcases her mental fortitude and ability to override her enemies minds, as she knows fear well and is capable of terrifying her enemies even without magic.
    • Sleep—> she puts all hostile enemies to sleep so long as they aren't able to resist it, but they will wake up once hit or if startled awake with enough noise honestly. This pairs really well with horror because they are unable to resist and will take additional damage.
    • Walking Nightmare—> hostile enemies are trapped in an active nightmare unless they pass the mental resistance check. This either leaves them stunned, causes them to attack their own comrades or leaves them as Katari's allies. This is a sure hit if they are asleep as they can't resist, when she utilizes it that way they attack their own allies in a state of confusion and the weaker minded become fully under her control.
    • Curse of Mortality—> this was taught to her by Andena because she was required to learn it no matter what, this spell curses her target with the inevitability of true death and during this time this target cannot heal or regenerate health and they take constant spirit damage. This one is cruel and difficult to use because it's so dark so she reserves it for the most powerful enemies, a priority so to speak. This can be dangerous to use to those who know it as well, especially powerful mages who know they have to up their game in order to survive so sometimes it's a catch 24.
    • Death Cloud—> similar to miasma she creates a very dark, black energy cloud that leeches anyone who enters and causes continuous spirit damage. This is one she communicates clearly with her allies and can be best utilized while pairing up with ranged allies, to truly inflict the most damage on these enemies. She doesn't use this spell very often because it's so dangerous to any allies, it was something she used more when she was on her own and will use when she's genuinely scared and not thinking straight.

    | Primal |
this is honestly where her natural talent lies, but mainly in the form of earth which she hasn't explored or practiced since her time in the circle. This would be her rustiest magic and something she would really have to reconnect with and practice in order to make use of these spells, outside of fire which due to her fear and trauma is very controlled.

    • Fire—> this was the way her magic first showed up, at least that she took note of and due to the trauma she despises using it and simply won't. It isn't a combat spell for her, rather she uses it for cooking purposes or starting campfires to keep warm. Her fear of fire is pretty intense.
    • Stone Fist—> she hurls a stone projectile at her enemy, the shape and size depends on the mana used and her ability to focus/create it in the first place. She hasn't practiced specific earth spells like this so it's harder to make these and this is something she's more likely to use if scared.
    • Earthquake—> she focuses her magic into the ground and creates a dangerous tremor, the effects depending on her stability and the magic used. She hasn't practiced her earth magic in a long time but this was the element she was the most connected to during her time in the circle, so it comes a bit more naturally. This is how her magic reacts if she's not fully stable or is losing control, so she's much better at casting this when she's angry or emotionally overwhelmed. It would take a bit to get control over it again.

    | Spirit |
this is where her true specialty lies in, she's always had a deeper connection to the fade than most and has always drawn spirits to her. Unlike most they have never scared her but rather, they make her feel so much safer and she's always been able to see the good in them. When she casts this magic it is guided by whichever spirit happens to be watching her, or is drawn by her calling out to them and asking for help. Her body is simply a vessel which she allows them to work through and connect with on a deeper level. This magic doesn't activate when she isn't in a clear mindset as that scares the spirits away, she has to be stable and her heart open with love rather than hate. This is all magic she learned in the magic circle in Rivain, but wouldn't utilize until A2

    • Spell Shield—> when this is activated there is a 75% chance of hostile spells sent at her being absorbed into the fade, draining the mana itself. This spell lasts until the energy has been drained. This isn't one she really casts herself as the spirits simply act from time to time, but she will ask for assistance when it comes to comrades and sometimes the spirits will allow it.
    • Dispel Magic—> this spell activates when there is a very dangerous mage attempting to attack Katari, or a spirit is particularly concerned about what is incoming. She would be practicing this spell in A2 for sure in order to be able to use it more often, especially after becoming fond of Fenris.
    • Anti-Magic Ward—> this spell is directed at an ally and will protect them from all spells, whether beneficial or harmful for a short amount of time. This is another one that simply activates when the spirits are protecting her and something she'd be practicing in A2.
    • Anti-Magic Burst—> this is a burst of energy which eliminates all dispellable magic effects in the designated area, even her own and allies. Another one usually cast by a spirit that is panicked and concerned for her safety and something she'd be practicing in A2.
    • Mana Drain—> while not very effective it allows her to create a bond with a spellcasting enemy in order to drain a bit of their mana. This isn't a spell she really uses very often unless it's a weaker mage or the spirits step in to assist her.
    • Mana Cleanse—> she expels all or the majority of her mana depending on the situation, in order to nullify the enemy mages in the area of their own mana. It really depends on how much she is willing to expel and the difficulty of her enemies, she will gauge her assumption on their own mana control from observing and fighting them.
    • Mana Clash—> she expels a large amount of mana in direct opposition to enemy spellcasters, leading to them being completely drained of their mana and suffering spirit damage equal to the mana they lost. This is a huge spell that also exhausts Katari herself and depends on her enemies, for example she couldn't completely drain Danarius of all his magic but would get very close. This is a spell she'd be practicing in A2 to fully prepare for eventually facing Danarius and knowing it would drain her own magic, she'd want to teach an ally protection spells to cast to Fenris so he could finish it.

  • Kaelyn is the daughter of a Vashoth qunari and a human woman, the only child of that union. She also had an older sister who was half-elf and a brother, but he didn't live with them for very long. The settlement she lived in is unknown to her now and most likely destroyed from the blight, but it wasn't too far from the Korcari Wilds which was where her father and his family lived. She loved her father dearly and enjoyed this community of qunari dearly, she was treated good there and was one out of 2 mixed children. This is where she learned qunlat and the customs of her people, something she took a lot of pride in learning and still holds on even to this day. Her family did not call her by her name here, rather she was known as Vakh which meant "watchful". There weren't too many mages here as it was a rare talent, mainly it was just her grandmother who was beautiful and fierce. She made magic such a beautiful thing that Kaelyn was excited for and really hoped she could do. She looked up to her grandmother dearly and wished to become a strong yet gentle woman like her one day. She always had cousins to play with here and lots of uncles to compete with, as she was a very stubborn girl who didn't like the "men are stronger" bullshit! Her fondest memories were when her father would come to get her and she got to go into these wilds, where she was truly free and got to explore.

While things didn't work out between her parents, she was still expected to interact with her mother and spent the majority of her time with the woman. Kaelyn's mother was ashamed of her and often tried to keep her hidden and locked away in their home, where she wasn't allowed out during the day and could only play with friends her mother approved. The only times she was allowed outside was when her mother sought out validation from the others, to gain sympathy for taking care of such a creature. This was not good on Kaelyn's self-esteem and led to her really struggling with accepting herself, very aware of how she stood out. Her mother also made a lot of bad choices and wasn't kind to her, leading to Kaelyn being neglected while with her mother and often going hungry. She would often argue with her mother as it was the only way to get her attention, which led to her being beaten by her mother. This was just a very difficult upbringing for her and one of these arguments is what sparked her magic, she didn't want to get beaten again. It was an explosive flame that caught the entire house on fire and burned it down, not only that but spreading throughout the entire settlement. This was very traumatic for Kaelyn who didn't mean for this to happen, she was so scared and needed her mother to help her. But she was abandoned and left to deal with the mess she had created, it was a miracle she didn't simply burn to death. This is something she can never forgive her mother for because instead of simply taking her and dropping her off with her father, where she would've been loved and taught how to control her magic... She was simply abandoned.

    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Kaelyn was only 10 years old and it was the templars who came for her, why they didn't simply kill her she doesn't know. But she was bound and dragged with them to Kinloch Hold, Ferelden's circle of magic. She wasn't allowed to bring her stuffed mabari with her and wouldn't have been allowed any personal belongings, but they couldn't remove the rings decorating her horns and so she got to keep them. This was a very corrupt circle and she was the only qunari there so she experienced the worst treatment from these templars, to the point of being forced to wear rags and having her name beaten out of her. Irving was kind and patient with her but he did nothing to stop this mistreatment, which led to her despising the old man. She also wasn't accepted by any of the other children who avoided her like the plague which made sense, given the fact that no matter what she did she was always being punished. This led to her acting out and pushing her luck any chance she could, meaning she was often put in isolation and even tied up throughout the many years she lived here. She most likely would've been killed had an older templar not taken an interest in her, his name was Aldwin and he was an outstanding templar in reputation alone. He essentially became her handler and would use discipline to keep her in check, something that worked from him. Despite his cold and emotionless personality she was drawn to him and he became her safe place, since she didn't know any better. She didn't have anyone else to interact with or who gave her attention.

Aldwin made sure that she was educated and that she learned skills outside of just magic, these were mainly methods of entertainment or servitude. She was taught the manners and expectations of a noblewoman, cooking, cleaning, dancing, singing and even pleasure techniques when she came of age. Outside of Aldwin there were a few children that she'd interact with, the first being Anders. These two didn't get along and were always bickering with each other over any little thing, always fighting. While they didn't outright hate each other they simply clashed, despite this he could be very friendly with her which did lead to her developing feelings for him. He was the one who named her Winter which was a mean jab, but something that became special and allowed once Karl started to call her this. Karl made her feel safe and was so nice, she liked him so much despite being jealous that he held Anders affections and heart. Losing him was very hard and even harder with what it did to Anders, who became only focused on himself and escaping without anyone else. She has not forgiven him for leaving her in that hell. Her very best friend and inseparable companion was the cutest half-elf named Andena. She was a bit younger than her but they bonded so close that they became family, really they were the only thing keeping each other alive and still trying to stay strong despite the unjust treatment they faced. They also were recognized by Uldred who reached out in order to teach them forbidden magic, which Aldwin allowed and had her collecting info for him.

Winter struggled a lot with the darker magic because she couldn't hurt these poor animals, nor did she like these violent and awful spells that hurt fellow mages. Andena succeeded in these though and had such talent, so much that she helped to teach Winter so that she didn't get in trouble for failing them. Uldred recognized the talent in Andena and planned on keeping her alive, Winter would've been sacrificed for the cause had she not been under Aldwin's protection. She passed her Harrowing although struggled a lot with the Fade, mainly because so many spirits and demons were drawn to her. She was often plagued by a demon that would terrorize her as a child, something that she always escaped from though. She did end up overcoming this demon and unintentionally creating a pact with it, this was only after becoming old enough to overcome her fear. This was how she really improved her blood magic, during her dreams and time in the Fade where she didn't have to hurt cute and innocent creatures. She was there when the chaos of the demons happened and when everything went wrong with this circle, one of the very rare survivors alongside Andena. Together they were able to escape and were finally free!! They had planned on returning to their homes together and immediately went to find Andena's home first, since this was a settlement and much easier to find than hoping to track her father down in the Korcari Wilds.

23 is how old she was during the start of Origins and she did not get involved with the Grey Wardens or the hero, rather this year was spent on the move. It was honestly a blur of events and she couldn't tell you what happened where, but she ended up parting ways with Andena who wished to settle in a city where she was accepted and Kaelyn wasn't. She stubbornly demanded that Andena choose her or her new friends and well, she was not the one chosen. This was a huge blow and she was yet again on her own, constantly on the move due to being chased out of cities or being forced to choose violence to defend herself. She truly saw how corrupt the world was and that it was no better outside of the circle, she just could get away with killing those who tried to harm or take advantage of her. It was during this that she met a human noble named Cassian, he was the first human to truly earn her trust and help her realize they weren't all bad. Cassian took her under his wing and accepted her into his little guild, which was called the Fade's Finest. It was a place for everyone, no matter what race or life they had lived and she was accepted here. It was hard for her to warm up to the others but she was very fond of Cassian as well as Gatt, a fearsome berserker qunari who became very fond of her. She had chosen the name Katari for herself which was how she introduced herself to these friends, going with them on many adventures and quests. Until she ended up in Rivain and met a circle mage named Muireann, this experience changed her life. This woman was so kind to her and accepting, exactly what she had needed in order to heal. She spent 7 months within a circle in Rivain with Muireann willingly, finding it to be a very peaceful place and the only one where mages were accepted.
    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
While she and Muireann weren't explicitly lovers, she was welcomed into her home and got to help take care of Muireann's children which was a beautiful experience. She would've stayed here forever due to the strong and mutual bond she forged with this woman, stayed to care for these children and raise them together had tragedy not struck. She didn't know that Muireann had an illness that could not be healed with magic, one that was only being held off. All that she could do was be there for Muireann as she passed, showing her love and comfort while doing her best to be strong for her and her children. She would've remained to care for the children but Muireann's noble parents came and retrieved them, offering these children a life that she simply couldn't. It wasn't until losing this woman that Katari realized she had loved her, this was her first time truly being in love. One of her biggest regrets in life is that she didn't tell Muireann how she felt, she will never know if this love was mutual or just on her end. It was too hard for her to remain in Rivain and in this circle without her family, so she left yet again.

Katari traveled from place to place, until she was discovered by Cassian yet again and got involved with his guild once more. She was always on the move taking on missions, which led to her meeting another community within a different city. This is where she met an elf named Riel, he noticed how much she stood out and was kind and accepting of her. They became fast friends and would spend a lot of time together with her even staying with him and his mother. Riel introduced her to his other friends as well and his little group, which is where she met Bramwell. This was a very easygoing nobleman who was kind and one of the very rare people who made her feel safe, even upon their first meeting. She was 24 during all of this and was not involved in Awakening. Getting to know this very bold man led to him wooing her and winning her heart, she admired his persistence and decided to simply give this a try because of it. Her relationship with him was so positive and full of love, he took such great care of her and was such a passionate and soft man. She was able to help him work through a lot of his insecurities and own doubts, helping him feel like he had nothing to worry about in their relationship. While he gave her unconditional love and acceptance, which was what she deeply craved. His family was so kind and showed her love as well, but his brother in law broguht up a point that she couldn't argue... Marrying this man would stain their bloodline and while they would accept her and adored her, this would ruin his reputation and her presence put a lot on their family. They had been nothing but kind to her, had accepted her and became home. She couldn't do that to them, it would be anything but repaying their kindness.

It was really hard for her to break Bramwell's heart, but their relationship no longer felt right and she knew he could do so much better than her. He was angry and hurt, wanting nothing to do with her which she fully understood and she went to stay with Riel. He was very kind to her but sad that they weren't together anymore, encouraging her to be brave and accept this good thing for herself. That it didn't matter what it did to his reputation, all that mattered was how he felt on the matter and that he wanted her. She remained for a bit but ultimately ended up moving because this was Bramwell's close circle of friends and she didn't wish to cause problems, knowing he needed space to heal. She wrote often to Cassian which was how she found out about Kirkwall and that it was where he had settled, as well as the base of operations for their guild. So she set off to Kirkwall.

    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Katari was accepted into the city thanks to Cassian's influence and given a home as well as a place to work, he had opened up a seedy tavern known as Iniquity which Gatt ran. While the city was rough and qunari weren't welcome here, they were protected due to Cassian's influence and the tavern ended up being successful enough to run. The rooms were limited to the members of the guild and they didn't come around too often, most had settled down with families and the others were constantly off doing work. Katari was tired of traveling and didn't have much choice when it came to work, as both Cassian and Gatt could tell how depressed she was and wanted to keep an eye on her. She took great care into keeping her identity hidden which meant not letting any of her skin showing, even painting her face grey under the mask she wore so she looked like any other qunari. Her name wasn't shared with others and she was a ghost, one who had a reputation in the city as a mercenary.

Her reputation is what led to her being introduced to Varric, although he didn't get much out of her and wasn't given her name for a long time. He called her Mystery though which intrigued her, she ended up growing rather fond of him and considering him a friend. It helped that he often requested her for quests around the city, even if it was an excuse to spend more time with her and trying to get to know her better. This was what led to her being introduced to Hawke and becoming associated with his party.

    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    ACT 1
would mostly consist of her slowly integrating herself into the party, mainly due to her fondness for Fenris which wouldn't be missed by Varric and Hawke (she'd start coming around when he does, it would be adorable and obvious to all). The 2nd year would probably be here realizing she has family here and starting to get to know her maternal family, as well as forging a powerful bond with her sister and grandmother (who would take her in as her apprentice to her shop). It's possible she'd have her horns removed as early as this 2nd year but it's more likely to be the 3rd year, in which she'd also dye her hair a chestnut brown. When she does this she would wear a lot more revealing clothes and would stop hiding her identity now that she looked like a human, most likely using her hair to hide her elvish looking ears. She'd most likely begin healing her scars in the 2nd year with Anders help, also when she'd start opening up more to companions and would genuinely be happy and healing her self-esteem/hatred. She'd take less missions with her guild and would flitter between Iniquity's tavern and her grandmother's shop.

ACT 2 would be rough given her short lived romance with Fenris, tanking all of the happiness she had built up. Finding love for a 3rd time would be her final time trying it, so she'd be ready to give up on romance in her life. All of that guilt would start to come flooding back and her PTSD would be out of control, worried about just causing problems for the people she cares about and dragging them down. Not to mention things getting so bad with the circle here and the qunari issues would be concerning. It would just be so much and she'd be scared of being discovered as a qunari, worried she'd be dragged into the circle or that Cullen would recognize her and demand her execution. She'd really want to just run and it would be so hard to stay, which she'd only do because the people she cared about needed her and she'd be trying. But the biggest reason for her staying would be to support Fenris, she'd be determined to remain by his side until he was freed from Danarius. She'd be really struggling with her guilt for having feelings for Fenris and what that would mean for him, Sebastian really wouldn't be helping these feelings either. The 2nd year would be realizing that Aldwin was back and part of the terrible things happening in the circle, the fear of him being here and the confusion that he wasn't tracking her down or looking for her. The 3rd year though would be her getting into contact with Aldwin and going back to her secretive ways, where even Varric would have a hard time tracking her down. It would be so easy to fall back into old patterns with Aldwin, she wouldn't know if she could break free again or if she wanted to. Life had been so hard, freedom was hard. But she knew Aldwin, knew what that life looked like because it was home. That 3rd year would also be her finally giving her mother a chance and seeing what a noblewoman life looked like, if she really wanted it. She would've dyed her hair again but this time a dirty blonde to fit in with her mother, while still showing her rebellion through intricate tattoos that were really hard to hide. Really the 3rd year would be a lot for the noble society for her.

ACT 3 would be her really distanced from the party, only really coming around on rare occasions of Varric/Hawke asking her or to spend time with Fenris. She'd be really spending all of her time with Fenris because she didn't think she had long in this city, that Aldwin would be taking her away to wherever and that she'd simply go once Fenris was free. This would most likely lead to her biggest companion quest and the one vital to whether she leaves the party or stays, lots of room for how this would go too. Most likely Varric would put the pieces together with Fenris and bring it to his attention that she had been hanging around a templar in secret, which Fenris would be able to recognize from her sharing her past with him. It's also possible after Danarius is killed and when she does go to visit Fenris (most likely to say goodbye), that with them talking about their feelings and him still wanting to be with her that she'd just spill the situation to him.

    Sandal
    Bartrand
    Ketojan

    • Katari developed a very strong bond with him, one that was confusing and possibly romantic in nature on her end.
    Arishok
    • Katari was very interested in learning about the current Arishok, given her people's culture and history she insisted on being part of this journey. She'd be very intrigued by him and that would be pretty much it, she'd also find him very attractive and fun to interact with. One of her favorite things would be watching Hawke pestering him, seeing how patient and gentle he was all things considered. She'd be sad that he has to die and with the way things go down, that he succumed to his own fear.
    Arianni
    • Katari felt a lot of sympathy for this woman and what she had went through, although she didn't know how to truly help her. She wouldn't have been comfortable getting to know her without Fenris, but she's gone with him a lot to visit and check up on her. Through that she's learned just how kind this woman in and has built a genuine friendship, they get along well and she checks up on her quite often.
    Danarius
    • Katari has hated this man since Fenris uttered his name, just knowing he was a slaver and a corrupt mage was enough for her. She has been determined to do anything that it took in order to give Fenris that chance to get his revenge and finally be free.
    Thrask
    • While he had seemingly been an ally to mages, she just couldn't allow herself to trust him. It seemed unfair for her to be so petty with him, but his 'help' just wasn't enough to really make a difference and that made her very upset. She was very bothered by his lack of true effort in putting an end to things and the way he handled Hawke's help, there was no valid excuse for the way he went about it and kidnapping someone so special.
    Keran
    • Katari understood his struggles and while she felt bad for the lad, she had a bad feeling she couldn't shake about him. This would only be proven right when he's involved in kidnapping Hawke's loved one, easily catching on that his hatred for mages was misplaced. She was not surprised he ended up so corrupt, that was what she knew when it came to templars. She wouldn't want him to live after this event.
    Idunna
    • Katari has personal beef with this bloodmage because she used it not only on her allies, but dared to use it on Fenris and attempt to charm him. She would've been able to resist her magic and would interfere with this situation before Hawke could, most likely using blood magic to kill her because it would be so fitting. She would not regret this whatsoever.
    Meredith
    • Katari would've hated this woman from the moment they met, especially learning she was involved in Ketojan's death. Finding out the corruption she allows and the way she treats mages would boil her blood and she'd want this woman dead, no matter the cost. This hatred would be so strong that she'd consider simply giving up her own life in order to pull a coop with Anders! So she'd be very against the woman and would need to see her dead, this is why she'd side with the mages.
    Orsino
    • Katari did some research once she got involved with Anders and the corruption in Kirkwall's circle, she didn't really have an opinion on him though. She heard of his noble goals and did respect his wishes for mages and wanting to help out, but she didn't put too much faith into his personal movement or for making a difference with the mages situation. So she'd be wary about his attempt to take over the templars and wouldn't understand why he thought that was a good idea. She would not be surprised when he is overtaken by his own desires and is corrupted. Especially finding out the evil and unforgivable things he had been part of.
    Gamlen
    • Katari has met this man many times and doesn't like him, not one bit. He is a grumpy and old man who blames his own bad decisions on those around him, so she has very little respect for him and only a little bit because he harbored his family. She is very careful around him though and does enjoy a bit of mischief, especially if he leaves something even fairly valuable out in sight or even just moving his shit around. She's petty and they'd have a relatively harmless frenemy situation, he wouldn't get too mad over her mischief and ways to inconvenience her.
    Charade
    • Katari potentially could be introduced to Hawke's cousin, if she is they would get along fairly well. The girl's bold nature and ability to ask personal questions would surprise her, but she'd have respect for it. Katari could really use more female friends!
    Leandra
    • Katari didn't really interact with this woman too much, she honestly didn't care too much for her either. She of course was respectful but something about the way she spoke and some of the ways she interacted with Hawke, well it just didn't sit right with her. Even still she was sad to hear about her death.

    • Katari was born the 5th day of Bloomingtide and she has fond memories of her birthday, considering it was the same week as the holiday Summerday which lasted an entire week with her paternal family.
    • She is female and uses these pronouns but falls under the Agender category, gender has no meaning to her.
    • When it comes to romantic relationships she is pan and gender plays no role. As for sex she is demi and requires a deep, emotional bond to be willing to explore her desire with someone.
    • She smells of spun sugar with hints of coconut or vanilla, this is thanks to her grandmother teaching her how to make the best soaps and perfume!
    • Katari speaks both common and qunlat, despite her time in the circle she did not lose any of the language or culture of her people and can still speak it fluently.
    • Katari was born in a settlement not far from the Korcari Wilds, she isn't certain what nationality that would make her nor does it matter
    • She has a bedroom at Iniquity's tavern, which she has decorated in various bright colors and patterns with her grandmother's help. It's a very magical place to be and she takes pride in that!
    • She pretty much just walks to where she needs to be, utilizing ships and carriages when she can. She has no plans on getting a horse as those creatures, as majestic as they are... Scare the crap outta her.
    • She wishes to have a mabari hound as a pet, undecided if that would be as early as Act 1 or as late as 2
    • Katari's father strongly believed in educating his daughter, so she had been taught to read and what would be expected of a middle class child (step above commoner). Her mother had also taught her the manners and expectations of a noblewoman, something only further drilled into her brain after Aldwin tutors her.
    • Her mental health is complicated because she is stable for the most part, she's also able to function in society and manage her own emotions and feelings pretty well... But she suffers from PTSD and doesn't know how to feel safe in places, since it's not something possible for a qunari or even an elf. She has low self-esteem and a deep rooted self-hatred from the discrimination she's faced, not to mention it being conditioned into her. So she doesn't know how to reach out for help and doesn't feel like she deserves to live a life, that she doesn't deserve good things. The biggest issue with her mental health is that she doesn't think she could escape Aldwin, that if she were to see him again she'd most likely fall into old patterns again and would allow this abuse.
    • Her physical health is very good, she has very strong legs from the walking she does and arms due to the labor she does. Her stamina is great and she can see great but she isn't the strongest and it's fairly easy to knock her off balance. She's pretty slow though and is overweight, but she holds it fairly well.
    • She struggles to find sleep unless she exhausts herself, which she then sleeps like a babe in the night. More often than not she is kept awake due to her trauma and worries.
    • Her biggest insecurities revolve around what she is, being conditioned to believe that she is a monster. Due to this she doesn't feel like she deserves connections or to be alive. While proud of her horns they draw a lot of attention which is why she'd have them removed, that would help heal some of these insecurities a lot and lead to her being much lighter in body language and open again.
    • When it comes to pet peeves, her biggest one is hypocrites and people who can't have a debate without getting defensive or angry. Impatient people irk her, as do overly friendly and insistent people, discrimination of any nature and people who tap on hard surfaces.
    • Her fears include horses, being abandoned, forced back into the circle/sold out, spiders, losing her loved ones to death, being chased out of Kirkwall, being overpowered by a blood mage & being recognized as a maleficar
    • Her goal is to blend into Kirkwall and not be recognized as a qunari
    • She honestly has no ambitions in her life, she's simply surviving
    • Katari doesn't allow herself to dream, she doesn't deserve it. But deep down she wishes for love.
    • She likes cold windy days, indulging in food/sweet treats, animals, witty banter, spending her coin on pretty things, helping people out, practicing her magic, the spirits, sleeping and receiving attention from others.
    • While she dislikes hot and humid weather, fresh tomatoes, running out of coin, being ignored or purposely left out, templars, most humans, people who get heated with civil discussions, idiots and having to be the bigger person every time.
    • Her hobbies include reading, helping out at her grandmother's shop, visiting friends, practicing her magic, performing in her safe places (dancer, also sings), writing to old friends and collecting magical items/beautiful clothing/accessories.
    • Her most important belongings would have to be her golden rings which adorn her horns, this was an important tradition with her family and all she has left of her paternal side. Outside of that she treasures the silver ring that belonged to Andena during their time in the circle, they had engraved their names into them together. When she romances Fenris she also treasures her half of the dragon tooth that she turned into a necklace, something she planned to never take off.
    • Katari lost her virginity during her time in the circle, where sex was a common occurrence. Most of her experiences weren't consensual and left her with a lot of trauma, so it took her a long time to become comfortable with exploring it with a partner.
    • She is a switch when it comes to the bedroom, it really depends on how she's feeling with Fenris and if he's feeling particularly dominant or if she wishes to top him. She is very adaptable to the vibes and what she feels he needs from her. Sometimes she is simply too shy and needs him to take the lead, others she is extremely seductive and teasing.
    • She was 10 years old when sent to the Ferelden's circle tower, officially known as Kinloch Hold. She's gotten a lot better at not resenting her mother for this decision as the fire in her settlement had been an accident, she just wanted her mother to stop beating her… Her mother had abandoned her out of shame and fled, instead of saving her child and sending her to live with her family. It haunts her, the life she could've had in the Korcari Wilds with the people more like her.
    • She is a documented Maleficar that is wanted on sight, but she is believed to be dead after her circle fell. There are very few survivors that could identify her outside of Cullen, so she's extra careful around him. Her phylactery is held by her "handler", a templar who has kept tabs on her but allowed her to think she is free.
    • Most of her scars would be healed over time by Anders, which she is very grateful for despite losing her trust in him and not liking the man he has become. She trusts him when it comes to healing completely.
    • Her hygiene is very important to her and she takes it very seriously, so she honestly smells amazing. She gets a lot of her products from a niche chandler in Kirkwall.
    • She is an absolute pessimist, although she hides behind the facade of an optimist. In the sense that she is very positive and encouraging to her loved ones, but deep down she doesn't hold much hope for her own feature or the world itself.
    • Her relationship with faith is complicated and goes deep, while she'd like to believe in Andraste she despises the chantry and their teachings as it is a world where she doesn't belong unless she is enslaved. She will respect others who hold different viewpoints, as long as they offer her the same respect. She doesn't tolerate preaching though and often offers good and rational points when disagreements are met, but even though she is calm and respectful she often finds herself losing respect or disliking someone because of their beliefs.
    • She does have an addiction to lyrium which she uses quite often, but only for dire situations because she doesn't carry a staff with her. This is something she can manage safely for herself but sometimes she needs to be left alone to go through the withdrawal process, which leaves her shaking.
    • She holds many dark secrets, given she has such a troubled and complicated past. She burnt a settlement down and so many lost their homes because of her magical burst as a child, she's killed templars inside her circle and given the chance, she'd most likely kill her mother. Perhaps one of the more concerning and not obvious (as in her forbidden magic) would be that she has conversed and made deals with demons in the past.
    • She is being trained as an apprentice to her grandmother, learning many different things such as enchanting/tailoring/jewelry making/etc.
    • Katari has always been used as a tool, from the magic she was allowed/expected to use in her circle to even entertaining the twisted noblemen and women who wished to see a tamed Qunari. So her relationship with magic is complicated and this is why she used such darker magic in the beginning, as it was what she was taught to use and it was what kept her alive after escaping. Not having to use blood magic and even being allowed to only support, is very new to her and a healing experience.
    • She tans really dark when consistently exposed to hot climates, this was very present while she lived in Rivain.
