Ominous introduction aside, I am writing a novel that is a mix of lots of genres. And sadly my writer's block has kept me from writing it for the better part of a year. My illustrator even finished the cover before I could finish the first draft! So I decided to a complete 180 on the focus on the book, and I need some help retooling. And getting my inspiration back. Think you could help?

The world is divided into two stations; the Potato Kingdom and the Tomato Empire. Don't let the names fool you, these provinces are anything but silly.
The Potato Kingdom is a powerful Kingdom left behind by time, where magic is a divine gift, and a bloodthirsty overzealous Queen reigns supreme. The population works the land, the clergy rule even above the Queen, and all bow to The Almighty One.
The Tomato Empire on the other hand is a sprawling futuristic hell-scape- a dome blocks out the sun to produce artificial light and heat, and the people fight over scraps of food. The Emperor is the god of the people, living and partying lavishly amongst his strobe lights and flying limos, with a secret police that silences any detractors for good.
And both have a disdain for one another so burning hot that if one is sighted on another's territory... blood is immediately shed. The reason for the hatred is unknown. But it's reached its peak with the current monarchs- Queen Annabel the First of the Potato Kingdom, and Emperor Grendel of the Tomato Empire. The Emperor both loathes and lusts after Queen Annabel, while the Queen has such deepseeded contempt for Emperor Grendel she's said that his entrails will be the new banner of the Kingdom- and she'd be the one to hang them there. As the Empire looms closer and larger, the Potato people have become galvanized, sharing the same rage as their Queen. While the Tomato citizens have no idea about the world outside- living in not-so-blissful ignorance.
One morning the Potato Kingdom has a shock; Queen Annabel pardons a Tomato that defected to the Kingdom! Despite the outcry and demands for "justice", the Queen simply ignores the mob vying for the Tomato's death by the Queen's stained sword. And she refuses to say why she spared an enemy. All she does when questioned is smirk and walk away. Then again... she is rather secretive.
Now: there are a few ways this could go. (Y/C) could be:
✮ A Knight in charge of watching the new "resident" while giving daily reports to the Queen- thus putting him in close proximity to the Queen often.
✮ A servant of the palace outraged by the Tomato being spared but while tending to the Queen she lets it slip part of why she did what she did. Revealing a large secret in the process.
✮ A younger priest who's the Queen's confidant and advisor, who has known Annabel for years and knows why she spared the rod. And while he works to rehabilitate the invader, he continues to be the Queen's pining best friend.
✮ (Open to your suggestions and ideas)
I am stuck on the first four chapters of the novel, but I know the general idea of where the plot will go. However I am completely open to ideas from my partner. I will leave some plot beats a surprise for real-time responses, feels more authentic that way. However I will share some about Annabel, because there's some things you ought to know.
