PLOT:
HORUS stands for Hive Operations for Reclamation of United Nations Space...
Project HORUS tells the story set in the Year 2160, about a United Nations project to create a dedicated Hive-infiltration elite unit out of promising cadets of various national military. The unit will have access to state-of-the-art technology and combat-hardened veterans as instructors provided by the respective participating nations.
The aims of this project are not singular however, as it was founded in a world where nations start looking more and more at their positions in a post-BETA world in the aftermath of Operation Ouka. One of these goals was to strengthen the bonds between nations and to ensure and absolute extermination of every BETA-hive that landed on earth, regardless of national interests.
In a way, Project HORUS can be seen as a successor to the Alternative plans, bringing a brighter future to humanity.
Who are the participating nations?
Consolidation of South-East Asian Nations:
An alliance of South-East Asian nations created to increase their political pull in the United Nations.
They provide the lion's share of the manpower and installations for the first operation of Project HORUS.
Veterans: 8th United Air Squadron "Phoenix"
"For these people this fight means more than for the others. Salary, glory, even survival pale in comparison to what my comrades fight for. They fight for their future, and the future of everyone they know."
Like all participating nations the COSEAN has sent a squad of veterans for instruction, the 8th United Air Squadron "Phoenix". Until recently they took part in BETA purges close to Mandalay and are thus intimately familiar with the area of operation.
United States of America:
The last remaining global superpower. They assisted COSEAN operations in the area before the Hive infiltration was even on the table. In the operation they will participate with an entire Mobile Suit squad, thus investing the most manpower and resources into this project after COSEAN.
Veterans: 74th United States Air Force Squadron "Painkillers"
"They say my boys 'n girls have trouble followin' rules. That's why I made my rules simple enough for 'em. 'Erryone fights. Nobody quits. If they ain't doin' their jobs, I'll shoot 'em myself."
Their participating veteran squad is the infamous 74th Squadron of the United States Air Force, the "Painkillers". Famous for their skill as much as they are for their reckless behavior, transfer into this squadron is seen among USAF insiders as a penalty for disobeying or disrespecting superiors. Colonel Euclid Vermillion however has an iron grip on his troublesome subordinates and managed to shape them up to become one of the best Squadrons in the entire Air Force, regardless of their popularity.
Union of Soviet Socialist Republics:
Currently mostly located in Alaska since almost all of its former territory has been overrun by BETA. The USSR has put a nice amount of funding and manpower into Project HORUS, mostly to create an incentive to use a Russian hive as the next target.
Veterans: 1st Experimental Squadron "Blackout"
"We are on a mission."
Little is known about the veterans of the USSR. Only that they consist of veterans from all over the Union, handpicked by their commander, Colonel (would need someone to fill this one), and that they all fly pitch black Mobile Suit. There are rumors of the Squad's close ties to the KGB, but these are as of now not confirmed in any way. When dealing with them caution is advised regardless.
European Union:
A union of European Sates that, due to fierce fights at the European front the European Union, is spread across Great Britain and parts of Canada. It was not able to procure much resources to offer for this project. Most of the manpower contributed to the project was procured by the French, as is the veteran squadron.
Veterans: 2nd Foreign MS Regiment
"Runaways? Maybe. Thugs? Can't deny that. Legends? Certainly."
A mixed bunch of pilots who managed to withstand the harsh training of the French foreign legion, lead by the self-proclaimed "best BETA Killer of the French army" Colonel (I also need someone feel this position), who commands his squadron from the position of a Storm Vanguard. They are known for using unconventional tactics combined with iron discipline to increase their chances of survival on the battlefield beyond what is expected of the shock-troop nature of the Foreign Legion.
Middle-Eastern Union:
Lacking in the financial strength of most other countries or unions the Middle-Eastern Union, consisting of what is left of most middle-eastern countries now located mostly in Africa, nonetheless sent as much as they could spare to support the project, including a veteran squadron.
Veterans: 22nd MS Squadron "Desert Foxes"
"I fear for the lives of those of who accompany us. They might not possess the same amount of skill I saw these men and women display."
Originally a fully Israeli Squad the ranks of it have been filled with other veteran soldiers of the Middle-Eastern Union. While there have been conflicts at the start due to cultural differences, the situation in the squad has calmed down and relation between squad members is now considered to be respectful and friendly. It is said that the most significant contribution to this fact was the calming influence of their squad leader, Colonel (I would need this one to be filled as well). In battle they act with a ruthless efficiency, born from the fact that all of the members have experience holding the middle-eastern defense line.
Empire of Japan:
An island nation gaining fame for their involvement in Operation Ouka. While they currently lack the resources to involve themselves stronger in Project HORUS due to preparation for the attack on Cherowon, they nevertheless donated MS modified for XM3 training purposes, some of their UN cadets and a special veteran squadron.
Veterans: 5th Imperial Royal Guard Independent Flight
"We shall see this mission through, so that I may see the red sun set over Kyoto once again."
Royal guard members rarely leave their home country, as their duty is defined as protecting the Shogun and their home country. Their participation in Project HORUS was only due to a personal request of the currently acting shogun, Her Majesty Yuuhi Koubuin, to show how important the success of Project HORUS is to Japan.
While not entirely in agreement with his relocation to HORUS, Colonel (???) nevertheless sees a personal request by the Shogun as an incredible honor. His squad consists of him and 5 other elite pilots of the Royal Guard

BETA:
The Beings of Extra Terrestrial origin which is Adversary of human race, more commonly known by the acronym "BETA", are extraterrestrial lifeforms, the BETA were first spotted on Mars in 2060. They arrived on the Moon in 2070 and, after a brief conflict with humanity's space forces, invaded Earth in 2076. They quickly spread from their landing point, Kashgar, and proceeded to invade the Eurasian, Middle Eastern and Asian regions; when they finally reached Japan in 2101, 36 million people were killed within a week. By 2104, the world population was down to about 1 billion people.
The BETA vary greatly in size, with the smallest identified strain (Soldier-class) being around 3 meters tall, and the largest identified strains (Fort-class) at over 60 meters tall. They cannot fly, and the Laser and Heavy Laser-class BETA shoot down anything that does, rendering aircraft useless and making any aerial military operations much more difficult. Their very existence is shrouded in mystery. All that mankind knows of them is that they are (obviously) hostile, are carbon-based lifeforms (this was discovered when specimens were examined), and do not consider humans to be living beings.
Operation Ouka (aka Operation Cherry Blossom):
was a United Nations military operation consisting of a multi-phase attack on various Hives around the world, starting on December 31st, 2104. The end goal of the operation was to achieve a successful raid on Objective 1, the Kashgar Hive. Operation Ouka was the single most successful Hive raiding operation in mankind's current history of war against the BETA. The destruction of the Superior allowed humanity to gain a significant strategic edge against the BETA, removing the enemy's capability for higher-end strategy, and the data gained from the global Hive assaults allowed them to further improve Hive combat tactics, Professor Kouzuki Yuuko estimated that Operation Ouka's success allowed humanity to gain another 30 years in the war, allowing them to finally focus on turning the tables against their enemies. The success of Operation Ouka also resulted in a renewed arms race, as each frontline nation sought to bring as many Hives as it could under their own control. The UN, in an effort to combat what might lead up to a potential Second Cold War, took measures, such as working together with other nations in frontline combat.
