I was deeply inspired by a short story I heard and I just had to write a story pitch.
I did keep it semi short though and included essentially what I wanted to get out of it, enabling us to include what my partner wants and grow the story larger together as a team.
In the Edwardian era, a plus sized young noble woman is neglected and emotionally mistreated by her family, who favor her slimmer younger sister and even spent her dowry keeping her younger sister in all the fashionable clothes during her seasons until her younger sister ultimately married.
YC is Lord Blackthorn, a reclusive nobleman of immense wealth and status… and secretly an ancient alpha vampire.
He visits MC’s home one night to discuss business with MC’s family, MC by chance being present when YC is shown into the sitting room where the family was relaxing.
He states he knows that they have a daughter of marriageable age and he wishes to discuss terms of marriage, even offering to pay all of the parents debts and give a settlement if they bestow upon him their daughter as his wife.
They point out MC’s ‘faults’ to him, but ultimately eagerly agree when he is not dissuaded, without ever consulting MC, putting their greed on full display.
YC shocks them by asking MC what she thinks about all of this, given how silent she was while everyone was discussing HER future.
After she mortifies her family by boldly offering her thoughts, YC delighted beyond words, just laughs and essentially explains he wants a wife of substance and typical daughters of noble families are raised to be decoration, mindless and opinionless ornamentation, which he finds horrendously dull. Plus, YC (though his immortality is a secret) has seen beauty standards change time and time again over the centuries and he knows how to appreciate a woman with curves as the goddess she truly is.
MC, pleased enough with his response and taking the opportunity to escape her oppressive family, then gives her own consent to the match.
