Salutations, Sanctum.
[I have returned following an unplanned hiatus after a death in the family, followed by a series of other events I would rather not get into here.]
I am me. You are you. I am that which I am. Some might say that I am He as you are He as you are me and we are all together, but everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. I have been roleplaying since I was a preteen in the swirling chaos of gaming lobbies and online chatrooms, and creative writing in general even longer than that. So I am young enough to meme, but old enough to make Beatles references, I guess.
I have always loved fantasy - high, whimsical, low, dark...
Scifi is great too. My tastes and how I view narrative in general has drastically shifted over the years, however. I find I enjoy when you can hear a partner's voice through their characters and descriptions of things. I adore when it turns into a meta conversation of sorts. I enjoy references to the occult and life commentary. Good writing should have unspoken layers of detail saturation beyond the tale being told. It's not always a possibility, but it is most definitely something to strive for.
In short, the journey is the destination for me, if that makes sense. I'm not excited about the slaying of the dragon in of itself. I'm more interested in the details surrounding it. What does the dragon have to say about this business? What bonds form on the adventure? Is the dragon even the real monster in the first place? Why does the dragon remind you of your mother? No need to make it weird.
If you get it, you get it, and if you don't, you don't.
I can write a little, or I can write a lot. It depends on the partner, the piece, and the particular scene. Short for me is about 300-500 words, and I can do/have done up to novella length if I feel the juice will be worth the squeeze. Having done the thing that this is for some time, I personally feel about twice or thrice that quoted length is perfect for a consistent flow of a few times weekly or even daily without it feeling like a chore. Everyone is a little different. Enough to work with is all I ask of anyone. I don't want to feel like I am the only one progressing the plot. If I wanted to write by myself, I would just do that!
Most days I will be actively skulking about in the afternoon and early evening (Northern CST) as I rise very early for work.
I have few limits as to what I will entertain or portray. I can comfortably and convincingly write as male, female, humanoid, or non-human characters with a variety of dispositions. I'm also a fan of constructing casts of side characters as we go along. Violence certainly doesn't bother me, but it has to make sense within the plot. I do not enjoy writing about excessive violence for the sake of itself. There must be some meaning in the conflict or actions taken, even if that means describing the inner workings of a broken character that delights in suffering.
I am the same way with lewd content.
My libido is alive and well. I enjoy raunch as much as the next person. In fact, I'm actually incredibly sexual...but writing it also gets incredibly dull for me as a mechanical stand-alone without romance and plot. As my description states, above all I love passion. Give me details, build up, and everything between the lines. Emotion and immersion is what lights the fire for me, not any particular appearances or actions. I have no hard and fast (heh) principles here on specific ratios. My limits here are what most people would find objectionable, and anything against the rules. If you have any questions, I'm more than happy to elaborate.
In all cases, I generally try to let the character take on a mind of their own and also work from what my partner wants to see. My number one rule is that I am not my characters, and you are not yours, even if they are imbued with pieces of ourselves.
Lastly, I deeply appreciate characters with flaws. "Perfect" appearances and personalities to me are just as Mary Sue/Gary Drew to me as a character that's good at everything. Add a little accurate fat to the figure. Inject some annoying yet endearing quirks in there. Nothing should be black and white either, especially not good and evil.
I will add my plots and pairings soon. I have many ideas, but they are currently too nebulous to describe in full. If any of this resonates with you, don't hesitate to holler. I'm worrisomely open-minded on jumping into things!
