Lawrence set in the building all alone with no one to talk to but his shadow, and most of the time these days his shadow didn't have much to say. Tick, Tick, Tick, TICK was the only sound that he heard. It was all in his mind, but each tick seemed louder than the next. His eyes turned towards the annoying clock on the wall, that seemed to just taunt with each second that went by. He couldn't believe that he had drawn the short straw, and had to watched over a bunch of magical creatures that were locked up and were not going anywhere anyways. Surely this place could run itself just for a few hours. He wanted to enjoy the retirement of leader and founder Milly B as well. Secretly he had a crush on her and just wanted to see her go, one last time.

His eyes then diverted to the large blinking red button that seemed to call out to him. On his first day of work five years ago it was engrained in his mind that under no circumstance was he ever to touch the red blinking button. So everyday that he walked into the office the red button called out to him, "push me, push me," he heard in his mind, and now, he set all alone staring at the red blinking button and there was no other person in the building to stop him from doing so.

He stood up and stretched for a moment and took a couple of steps towards the red blinking button that only seemed to harness the power as a beacon to his finger. Beckoning his finger to dare touch the untouchable. It was like he now had a devil on his shoulder and it whispered into his ear. "Do it..Do it Doooo it." As he paced around the floor he could feel his feet making each lap just a little closer to the beacon of light, that was the color red at the moment. His finger honed in on the color of red just as a bull would as the red caped the matador waved in the air. The voice in his head or the spirit on his shoulder persuaded him once more. "Come on Lawrence, they never let you do anything fun around here, its always Lawrence do this, Lawrence do that, Lawrence don't do that, Lawrence don't spit paper wads at people, well all the fuddy duddies were not here at the moment and what harm could a little touch do in pushing the button."

The voice was very persuasive, each word that it spoke was like it was feeding his heart with nourishment, nourishment that Lawrence needed in order to get up the courage to push that blinking red button. Lawrence moved closer his eyes focused on the blinking red button and read the words underneath. "Under no circumstance Lawrence should you ever push this button." He rubbed his eyes for a moment the words on the wall had never said that before. He had read the words above and under the button every day, and it always said. "Don't Push the red button." He looked once more and the words were back to normal, But the button now looking ever so more delightful, it was almost appealing to the touch.

Lawrence knew the button now taunted him like the clock on the wall that continued to Tick, Tick, Tick, against his ear, like breath from a lover. But still for some reason Lawrence resisted pushing his slender little finger against the loveliness of the blinking red button. He knew there was only one reason for him to resist such temptation and that was because of his thoughts on what would Jessica think. Jessica had been his mentor from day one. He had disappointed her so many times. Lawrence could hear her voice in his head. "Lawrence why did you spill the coffee, Lawrence can't you chew just a little bit softer?" He knew if he pushed this button before him that her voice would just have another Lawrence how could you added to the list. That was just something that the nourishment the voice on his shoulder had been feeding and not outdone.

Lawrence turned around and walked away for a moment, stood in front of the vending machine looking for some kind of munchy to take his mind off the blinking red button. But out of the corner of his eye he could see the flashing of the button reflecting off the glass of the vending machine. This lights called out to him more, the voice continued to taunt. "Lawrence" It said in a soft whisper. "I thought you were the man of getting things done, I thought you loved all things fun, lets push that red button and have some fun."

Lawrence had to admit he never backed down from a moment of fun. It was the reason he was in this predicament at the moment, he was the one that wasn't having fun and his mind was trying to do everything it could to have just a little fun to make up for the fact that everyone else was having fun, without him. Lawrence withdrew from the vending machine, there was nothing in that box that was going to satisfy his appetite now. The only thing that would excite him now in this moment is the touch of the blinking red button under his skin as he touched it. He looked around and there was no one there to stop him. Jessica wasn't there pointing her finger. It was only him and the button. He walked softly towards the wall once more that held the treasure in what he sought. The voice once more egging him on. "Do it, Do it…Dooooo it"

Lawrence stood just inches from the button, he could now see his reflection in the center of the red blinking button staring back at him. He could see his own disappointment in his face staring back at him, but it was not enough for him to slowly lift up his hand and move his pointer finger to the prize that he so desired tonight. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes for a moment and his finger brushed against the smoothness of the blinking red button. There was no turning back as he gave his finger just a little momentum and the red blinking button descended into the wall.

Confetti shot out from different cannons around the room, and loud voices came from behind him as a wall scooted open as they all shouted "Congrats on your Five year anniversary." Lawrence was confused for a moment, but then Jessica stepped up to him and gave him a big hug and said. "Welcome to the club of the five year button pushers, we all have been tested and we all pushed that little red button on a night just like this, some took a little bit longer then the five minutes it took you, but because of your curiosity here if you new badge to have access to all the magical little creatures in the building, just like the one that set upon your shoulder tonight." Jessica gave Lawrence a quick wink and made her way over to the cut the cake. Lawrence was not sure what just happened in the moment, but he did know he wanted some of that cake.
