It was a rather humid night where it seemed the light drizzle that blanketed the city would never stop and the grey clouds that blotted out the moon gave the streets a dreary look. Even the streetlights struggled to cast out the darkness of the evening from their respective areas, creating odd glowing circles of light sporadically on the path. It was dark in the suburbs of the city. Not a human was in sight on these dark streets, not unless they had a death wish. The humans liked to keep their curfews and abide by them. It was "safer" for their young and impressionable.

However, the city itself was alive at night, being run by those who preferred darkness over the day. It was there that the immortal society chose to live and mingle with their own kind. Not without first trying to assimilate into human society when The Heralding occurred.

Human historians and immortal historians remember the events entirely differently. But they all came to consensus it was the first time humans were exposed to the supernatural realm. After years of watching humans destroy their world from the shadows and guises as mortal beings, vampires offered the first contact with the nations leaders. They offered aid in warfare, alliances in business, and medical secrets guarded throughout the ages. The humans were—understandably—alarmed by the sudden appearance of creatures that haunted their pop-culture and nightmares.

If you ask a supernatural on the street, they would tell you the humans struck first, killing the unarmed vampire envoys and losing a few of their numbers as well, including one of their leaders. If you ask a human, the vampires openly threatened mankind with coercion and stated their true intentions of taking over the world. When they were denied by their fearless leaders, the vampires attacked, intending to cripple the nations by destroying their leadership.

No one knows the true start of the Decade War that tore apart countries to small villages in bloody conflicts. While the supernaturals had their powers, the humans had numbers and weapons. The two sides were locked in bloody warfare for years till the day fondly known as The Revelation. On the morning after a particularly bloody battle in a major city, a group of misfits of all species banded together to fight back against the war that was beginning. The group beseeched generals and leaders on both sides for peace, stating that their worlds could live in equality and harmony if only they could set aside pretenses and mistakes and meet on a level field. The scene was moving, enough so that those willing to give peace a shot outnumbered those that wanted the other side dead. It was even said the Elders wept tears of blood at the sight of their families falling for the sake of petty war. However, that is considered speculation as no one remotely near the Elders survived the war, both supernatural and human.

On the eve of The Revelation, leaders from both sides met across party lines to secure a tenuous, but fair alliance. A vampire house rose to seniority over its kin, the original house that sided with peace and not war. They would retain autonomy to rule their kind and to keep werewolves in line. Werewolves would be confined to compounds where they would be able to establish their own laws and monitored in the outside world to be sure they had their beast under control. And humans would remain in charge, believing they held all the cards. Supernaturals joined human society and humans maintained their independence. They were allowed to rule each other separately and consequences would be levied by the others jurisdiction should harm fall a human or supernatural. Elite forces and ambassadors were established for both sides to maintain the peace.

This tenuous agreement, however, left room for deceit and destruction from the inside. Over the years, as leadership in the ruling vampire household changed, vampires began to take control of the city by selecting loyal officials in the human rank and file. Those who would turn a blind eye to their misdeeds. They were allowed to carry-out underground slave trading to feed their bloody needs and began ruling the city from the shadows.

The werewolves began cornering the markets of business due to their natural ferocity and began breaking the confines of their compounds. This led to skirmishes with vampires and humans alike, but most persevere and fight for their equality. While most still reside within those safe walls of their pack's compound, many of the younger generation dream of a day their people don't live in fear and want to be that change.

As for the humans, well, some decided that survival was better than slavery or being mauled without protection. Humans began swearing allegiance to vampire houses, in hopes of one day earning immortality. Some began marrying into werewolf packs to secure safety from the vampires. But not all humans were pleased with the war ending and being subjects under their new immortal leadership. A human group banned together following the war that spread knowledge of killing supernaturals to its followers, called the Brotherhood of Light. While many play them off as a group of heretics, it's said that their alliances and membership runs deeper into human society than revealed. Prejudices against humans still run deep within the supernatural world and it is clear to the ancient creatures that humans can only pretend to hold their power for so long.

~~~~~~
Hi everyone! So I've been craving writing good old horror lately and decided to revamp (lol) an old thread from another site. I know there seems to be an abundance of vampire and werewolf threads on here, but I'm hoping this grittier take could draw some people that would like the challenge. This story will revolve around this city, one where immortals are fighting for dominance over each other. Of course that isn't the whole plot, as much of the story writing will depend on the characters and their actions. Now that you have the background, let's get into the character backgrounds people can choose from:
Human— this species is a human. Alive, fleshy, and with any background you can think of. However here are some options to help them fit in this world:
  • Vampire House Initiate/Slave— a human who has pledged service to a vampire house. These are the second lowest members of the vampire house, basically treated as hired help. They must complete a period of servitude before they are changed. For some this begins at childhood, where they were selected to serve a purpose due to aptitude or skill. For some, this process starts later when they gain favor with the House. There is a rigorous interview process by the vampire house before a human is accepted. It's considered an honor when you complete your service and become a vampire. Slaves are treated like blood banks and lower than the Initiates. They are viewed more like pets than people and are considered disposable. They keep these humans pliable and controlled with a substance called Venom, which is concentrated vampire venom laced with their pheromones (with other nastiness mixed in) to keep the person addicted and reliant.
  • Werewolf Pack Member—These humans have married into a werewolf pack. They are considered full members by most of the younger generation but are still viewed with distain by the older wolves. They have the same voting rights and autonomy that the wolves do in their society.
  • Brotherhood of Light Member—a group of humans that are resisting against the supernaturals. They have a deep hatred of supernaturals and are viewed as criminals in the city. They hide their actions in the shadows for survival.
Vampire—Vampires are creatures of the night that have their own unique personalities, looks, and preferences. However, they all have in common an insatiable thirst for blood, ability to see in the dark, burning in the sun, and ties to a house for survival. With age they become more powerful, with abilities like mesmerism through use of pheromones, the ability to move quickly, and superhuman strength. As they age, they become less controlled and vampires at a certain age are often humanely (or not so humanely) killed to avoid having a superpowered basket case running around. They need to feed to stay alive. Vampires cannot biologically have children and must change others in order to increase numbers or form a "family" through adoption. There are strict rules on who can be changed and when and those found violating this law are killed and their offspring destroyed. These are sub categories/affiliations you can choose from:
  • Everleigh House Vampire—The Everleigh House is a vampire family that prides itself on tradition and structure. Most of these vampires are involved in the arts, politics, or law enforcement. Prideful, powerful, and exclusive are a few words that would describe the title. They are ruthless towards dissent and like to keep rigorous castes within their household to uphold station. At the top is the Elder, a vampire who is in control and considered the final say in most decisions. This vampire is in control of the house until they are deemed to old and "laid to rest" or are unseated by a coup. The current standing Elder is Othello Everleigh. Next is one of 3 council members, or a vampire from one of the 3 lower loyal Everleigh family branches that consult with each other on laws and uphold peace. Then there is the house vampire, or the general citizens that help in making sure the Everleigh House remains strong. They can have any outside job imaginable, but their loyalty and tithes go straight back to the House. Then there are Initiates, or humans that were chosen to become vampires who fill menial roles within the house before they are turned. Lastly, servants and slaves are considered the lowest caste with no chance of rising above that station.
  • Outcast— The Outcasts are a group of vampires who are considered Houseless. These vampires either did something to piss someone off and were cast out or they are illegally turned vampires in hiding. They are basically free agents that move within the city without the protection of the Everleigh name. If caught, they can face death, so most hide their nature or do their best to create a cover. Although they are free agents, they do have to swear a strange loyalty to a vampire named Lady Imperie. No one except a closed circle of vampires has ever seen this woman, due to the price on her head for going against the Everleigh, and some question if she even exists. A vampire under this house might work in the human hunting business or odd jobs that don't draw a lot of attention.
Werewolf—Werewolves are creatures that appear as slightly taller and fitter humans, but have a beast side they learn to control. They are the typical adaptations of werewolves (ya know the large furry wolf men), with their fur color and eye color determined by pre-existing features in their human form. They can control their change, but must learn that control through their own work and perseverance to find that balance between their wolf and human forms. Their changes are not tied to moon cycles, but a wolf can lose control of their change if they have not changed in a while. Their abilities include super smell and hearing which is in and out of wolf form. In a wolf form, just imagine all the damage a big beast can do and you have a perfect idea. However, Wolves have extremely low birth rates, which is why they have begun allowing humans into their pack life to improve this.They do not have the same immortality that vampires possess but they do live for a very long time. These are subcategories/affiliations you can choose
  • Forstner Pack Werewolf--These are werewolves that belong to the local pack of the city, the Forstner Pack. These wolves live on compounds throughout the city and outside of it, surrounded by their own kind. They are branded with the packs symbol from a young age, which is the symbol of a life tree. These wolves are beholden to the control of an Alpha, who rules over the group with an iron fist. Currently, their Alpha has been murdered and they are seeking a new wolf to take their position. What the Alpha says is absolute and in the former Alpha's absence many wolves are working together to control the chaos to not leave the pack vulnerable. A pack functions like a true democracy. Popular vote decides changes to the pack and the Alpha is in charge of enforcing those changes and putting forth ideas for changes. Most of the younger generation are very business minded and are involved in most corporations in the city, namely health care, finance, and industry.
  • Lone Wolves--These werewolves chose to leave the pack out of necessity or are being forced out. These wolves are treated like dirt by the Pack Wolves and do not have the same offered protections against vampires and humans. They usually try to fit in with humans or find their place in a happy seldom middle to avoid drama and harm. With less support, these wolves often will own small businesses, work odd jobs, or stay homeless
Feel free to have your pick of any of these categories or if you have an idea for a character that doesn't fit, please send me a message and we can totally talk it out. I swear I'm nice and I will more than likely say yes to ideas. Unless it's something really wild.
Character sheets are as follows:
Name:
Age:
Gender:
Species:
Affiliation:
Appearance: ((picture or description or both is fine))
Personality:
Background: ((Just enough to get a gist of your character))
~~~~~~~

So now for some ground rule:

Feel free to make as many characters as you can handle—Just make sure they continue to contribute in some way and you're not getting stressed managing them.

Be nice to other posters— This is a thread about party lines so I know not all the charas are going to like each other. Or some might like each other a lot and decide to pursue romance ((Please keep it non-explicit because I'd rather not read it. Y'all can write that on your own time in something separate!)). Buuut that being said, leave it in the thread and if someone is making you uncomfortable let me know so it can get solved. This is supposed to be fun not stressful!

Keep ya actions to ya self-- Don't control other people's characters unless you have express permission from that person (must be tagged in the post) please!

Posting Order—On other sites I've been on there was a rule about posting order. On here though it seems to be a free-for-all. I'm still deciding on which I would rather have. I think I'll base it on the number of people, if any, that are interested. I'm leaning towards no posting order as long as you don't let it go too far and leave people way behind.

Please feel free to post character profiles here and message me with any concerns or questions. Happy posting!

The Characters I have. I tried to create a wide variety to help out with world building in all areas:

Name: Othello "Thell" Everleigh

Age: appears 26

Gender: Male

Species: Vampire

Affiliation: Everleigh House member (current standing Elder)

Appearance: Othello is thin and lithe by nature due to years as a boss of an organized family rather than the general member. His skin is pale, almost translucent when he doesn't feed and takes on a more lively pallor when he does feed. He has scars in places from failed attempts at killing him. His clan marking is a boar encircled by laurels, which is on a patch on all of his clothing. He likes to maintain himself with a put together and gentlemanly appearance. However his more predatory side from being an older vampire gives people the distinct feeling he's sizing them up for a meal or contemplating their use.

9GEGud0.jpg

Personality: Othello was raised in the training and service of a family he was adopted into. He was primed for the role of a leader underneath the Everleigh families prior Elder. Therefore, he has an eye for business and the poise of a man born into privilege. He loves fine things and parties and tends to indulge in the glamor of his high society life. He is often complimented for his level headedness and friendly demeanor in business. But Thell tends to be come across as cold to those around him longer than for a business deal. Almost like there is a disconnect between his friendly demeanor and his true intentions. Despite that, Thell is pleasant to deal with when the business is pleasant. Otherwise—well—most don't survive that encounter. Those that do are in no state to divulge or report about the occasion. He is a confident creature and tends to enjoy his power, both through his coven name and supernatural nature.

Background: Othello was the youngest son of a pair of indentured servants to a local lord that was very cruel. One day a woman came to their home and offered them a choice. Continue to slave away for eternity to a family that abused them or give up their child in exchange for a life free of poverty and strife. Reluctantly they agreed for the sake of their lives, family, and a promise that he would be raised to be educated and well cared for. They were unaware that Othello was sold to a family of vampires that had secretly been pulling the strings behind the powers that be in their region of Europe. As vampires cannot have their own children, they select their kin and successors through rigorous searching and selection. A vampire lord is assigned a successor or follower through a selection process controlled by the council of vampires. Thell was groomed from a young age as a mortal in etiquette, business, and academics to eventually take over the Everleigh clan. When he was deemed ready at the age of 26, he was offered the gift of immortality by the former Elder Everleigh. Knowing no other life, Thell accepted and was born again as a full fledged vampire. However, tensions in the family began to rise on his appointment. Even as the former Elder died peacefully, some claim Othello gave him an early retirement to gain the prestige and power at such a young age. Some rumors of a possible coup have begun rising in the ranks and are whispered in the halls...

Name: Barrett "Bear" Forstner

Age: He stopped counting, but he was born around the 1500s. Appears around 30.

Gender: Male

Species: Werewolf

Affiliation: Forstner Pack member in the verge of becoming a Lone Wolf.

Appearance: Due to the wolf genetics, he's kept the physique of a young 30 something. He's a decent sized man, more imposing in bulk than height. He looks solid, such that it usually deters people from messing with him. His expression is usually serious, almost stone cold due to his background with a very business oriented family. Despite detesting the clean cut look he was once used to, there are subtle hints in his clothing and manicuring that there was a hint of order under the rugged appearance. He tries to force a smile to look more friendly since if he isn't careful, he constantly looks either pensive or that he might take your hand off. Despite the extensive scarring and damage to his back, there are remnants of a tattoo of an old tree looking symbol.

UAoibwB.jpg

Personality: Barrett is aloof in nature since he grew up in a family where emotion was a weakness and only action mattered. Tendencies from his old life still emerge, such as his care for order, his commanding presence, and his more cut-dry nature. However, his distaste for his old way of life has let more of his personality show. He can be witty and sarcastic but tends to air on the side of caution with his humor, as people usually are scared of his stand-offish nature. He usually puts off the vibe that he just might eat you if you look at him the wrong way, what with the resting stone cold expression and piercing silver eyes. While quiet, Bear likes being around people and is very generous. He would give the shirt off his back to help someone who needed it, even if it was the last one he owned. He likes simplistic things, nothing too extravagant and flashy as he finds such things useless. He is deeply loyal to those he trusts, even if that is rather hard to achieve when he often doesn't open up with people. He isn't afraid to speak when he has something to say, he just prefers to listen in most situations.

Background: The Forstner family came from a long line of wolves that started in their homeland of Germany. While humans and werewolves never had a perfect relationship, his people were once revered as hunters and healers in the town, as if blessed by the spirits of the forests. With the coming of kingdoms and progress, the humans began to turn against them. After the hunts began, his family went into hiding and split into smaller sects due to in-fighting. He stayed with the original pack, with his mother who was a renowned healer. She taught Bear everything about healing that she knew and spurred his interest in helping others through medicine. He was usually the first to head to someone's aid when a doctor was needed. After quite a few years of practice as a natural healer and seeing the centuries change to more modern healing practices and research, he was able to take his knowledge with him to an actual medical school far away from home. He studied medicine for years, till he was able to get a job working as a combat medic in war and general surgeon in civilian life. However, his transformations kept him unable to truly be a part of society and often left him in tight spots where his pack would have to clean up after him. He was bitter about his genetics that made him a monster and took time to research a cure that could fix what he was...When his kind began developing a way to control their transformations, he threw himself into the cause. If only he knew the destruction their efforts would cause and that he would wind up a pariah in his pack. To avoid them further, Barrett opened his own bar and largely stays out of pack business unless he's needed. Unfortunately for him, Barrett now has the ownership of an eccentric human who he feels he has to protect daily...

Name: Maximillian (Max) Larsson

Age: 24

Gender: Male

Species: Human

Affiliation: "Slave"

Appearance: Max has terrible eyesight and needs glasses for about everything in his life. He has a sunny disposition, as he usually is always smiling or has a dreamy far off look. He is an artist at heart, so his clothing often is very...quirky.

ZhzMLKe.jpg

dx2QKoT.jpg

Personality: Max is cheerful and is generally friendly, even if he can be a bit sarcastic. However, his energy for life usually makes him noticeable, or at the very least scatterbrained. How he survived that long without being turned into a monster's meal he has no idea. He tends to get lost in thought easily, especially if he is working on a project or is in the process of doing something. He also tends to be a bit...well Bear calls him dim but he prefers to think of himself as too busy to really think things through.

Background: Max was an art student at a major university before he was taken by vampires when he got off of work. Luckily, on such an unlucky night outside of a bar, he was able to hide behind the owner and avoid being taken. However, now he has to stay under the guise of a "human slave" that belongs to the bar owner to avoid being taken. Well, just till he earns enough for the one-way ticket out of the city and away from this mess...

Name: Vivian

Age: 110 years old, but appears 24

Gender: Female

Species: Vampire

Affiliation: Outcast

Appearance: She has short brown hair that is in a modern early 20's curl to it. She usually wears more modern clothing that shows off her figure and gives way to her newly perfected body. She is meticulous with her looks, mostly because she prefers others to treat her as a respectable lady than some Houseless creature.

zdfG53k.jpg

IryTE57.jpg

Personality: Vivian is very charismatic and loves to be around people, as she couldn't do that much while in service to vampires. She is a gentle soul despite her upbringing, but can be nasty when she feels threatened. She prefers to be independent and you will often see her as the first to run into a crowded room of party goers rather than be a wall flower. When she isn't dreaming of a lavished lifestyle through her shopping habits, she is usually out enjoying the night life or spending time in her favorite hole-in the wall businesses.

Background: Vivian was raised a country girl that grew up during the turn of the century. She was born into poverty with big dreams and an even bigger plan for herself. She would one day marry rich, take her love of singing and dance to the big city, and make a name for herself. So, at the age of 20 she packed her bags and headed for the city. Luckily, she landed a gig as a singer at a local speakeasy owned by a mob family in the area. The roaring twenties was her playground, where her love for adventure and trouble landed her in the arms of a notorious gangster in town. He lavished her with jewels and fancy dresses, parties, and anything her heart could desire. However, her attention wandered with a new patron that saved her from a stay mugging into the street, a pale man that looked as pretty as a picture. She fell into an affair that ended up costing her life and her death. The next thing she knew, she woke up in the sewers beneath the city with her lover who revealed himself as a vampire from a prominent clan. He offered her life everlasting, but forgot to mention the part about her turning into a night stalking creature with a taste for blood that eventually claim her sanity and life. Well, if she doesn't combust in the sun first. While she was adopted by the Everleigh, she did not agree with many of their tendencies, such as murdering humans for blood at their lavished parties or poor treatment of their slaves. She hated her position beneath the Vampires and wanted to reach the top tier, to maybe make a few changes one day... She was cast out after a misunderstanding and now lives in hiding with the other Outcasts.

Name: Daria Chambers

Age: Twenty-One

Gender: Female

Species: Human

Affiliation: Brotherhood of Light Member

Appearance: Daria has plump lips, and straight teeth. Some find her intimidating due to her having a resting bitch face. She rocks jet black hair that she cuts herself. She stands at 5'10, and typically wears clothes that show off her long yet shapely body.
11384111ee9276d96bdf1f17fca287a2.png
b994add35f4fb836d4619c9c0c4679bd.jpg

Personality: A sweetheart to the public, a legend to the brotherhood. Daria is nothing less than evil and manipulative. To your face, she'll be sweet, even charming— but in the back of her head, she's thinking of ways to decapitate you— that's if you're immortal.

Background: The first eight years of Daria's life, she was happy, wholesome, and sweet. The rest went left once she witnessed her mother and father get mauled by a werewolf. After that, she saw all supernaturals as scum under her boot. She'd draw pictures of her killing supernatural beings, fantasize about the deaths of many, if not all, immortals. As Daria grew older, she figured out weaknesses, and ways to hurt and murder supernatural beings. Eventually she did. Starting with a werewolf. It was all over the news. When she was in public, she'd be hysterical about it, but with the brotherhood they'd celebrate. Daria is not a woman you'd like to cross at midnight.

Ooh I love Daria! Manipulative and deadly will fit in great in this story!

Name: Sphinx (Nicholas Flamel)

Age: Appears to be in his upper twenties, any questions to his actual age is evaded.

Gender: Male

Species: Human immortal

Affiliation: Himself

Appearance:
26d316b878176a854ad085d5efd534d0.jpg
1RVK68blx9F0Vl7bVcEIL_UH7A03bmEtGvWLGOr-q3O743USQgXaou63hDkMi7tgmLwTHFopesEawp0b6RGzqwrlVSn-tcJiUiEkakYwbQV-xdaZLLGb9nGcydwfhIyt6ufv1Q0

Personality: Nick is a man of secrets and learning. In fact most people who don't hate him can sum him up in three words: A mystery, an enigma, and a man of many secrets. Now whether those secrets are his own or someone else's always depends on the situation and present company. He enjoys the privacy his position offers and is a big fan of the subtle threat.

Underneath the mystery, the bravado, and the slyness is a man who devours learning and knowledge in all its forms. Everything in his life can be seen as an experiment from the food he eats to the way he greets someone. It's all a way for him to learn.

Background: Humans have always had stories and tales of immortality. The fountain of youth in the west, the moon rabbit in the east, the south spoke tales of ambrosia and nectar that could make a man live forever, and time and time again came another way. The philosophers stone.

Stories of Nicholas Flamel the famous alchemist credited with discovering and creating the legendary stone abound in books, movies, legends, and myths. Few realize that such a man exists and such a man truly did create something so amazing that turning simple rocks into gold was actually the least of its powers.

At some point in the years Nick began collecting knowledge and traveling the world. Something nagged at him, a problem that he has spent his many years of life to solve. In recent years he has opened little shops in cities where he can find pieces to the puzzle he is trying to solve.

He has established himself now in a new city and for the past few years has settled himself in the middle of three sides. He is willing to help all of them, for a price of course. And so long as they abide by his rules of course.

Hi y'all just giving an update. I love both the characters but I want to give it another little bit to see if anyone else bites. I will be posting the initial post on Wednesday most likely. I need to hammer out some details to help our charas thrive. Thank you for your patience!
