It was a rather humid night where it seemed the light drizzle that blanketed the city would never stop and the grey clouds that blotted out the moon gave the streets a dreary look. Even the streetlights struggled to cast out the darkness of the evening from their respective areas, creating odd glowing circles of light sporadically on the path. It was dark in the suburbs of the city. Not a human was in sight on these dark streets, not unless they had a death wish. The humans liked to keep their curfews and abide by them. It was "safer" for their young and impressionable.
However, the city itself was alive at night, being run by those who preferred darkness over the day. It was there that the immortal society chose to live and mingle with their own kind. Not without first trying to assimilate into human society when The Heralding occurred.
Human historians and immortal historians remember the events entirely differently. But they all came to consensus it was the first time humans were exposed to the supernatural realm. After years of watching humans destroy their world from the shadows and guises as mortal beings, vampires offered the first contact with the nations leaders. They offered aid in warfare, alliances in business, and medical secrets guarded throughout the ages. The humans were—understandably—alarmed by the sudden appearance of creatures that haunted their pop-culture and nightmares.
If you ask a supernatural on the street, they would tell you the humans struck first, killing the unarmed vampire envoys and losing a few of their numbers as well, including one of their leaders. If you ask a human, the vampires openly threatened mankind with coercion and stated their true intentions of taking over the world. When they were denied by their fearless leaders, the vampires attacked, intending to cripple the nations by destroying their leadership.
No one knows the true start of the Decade War that tore apart countries to small villages in bloody conflicts. While the supernaturals had their powers, the humans had numbers and weapons. The two sides were locked in bloody warfare for years till the day fondly known as The Revelation. On the morning after a particularly bloody battle in a major city, a group of misfits of all species banded together to fight back against the war that was beginning. The group beseeched generals and leaders on both sides for peace, stating that their worlds could live in equality and harmony if only they could set aside pretenses and mistakes and meet on a level field. The scene was moving, enough so that those willing to give peace a shot outnumbered those that wanted the other side dead. It was even said the Elders wept tears of blood at the sight of their families falling for the sake of petty war. However, that is considered speculation as no one remotely near the Elders survived the war, both supernatural and human.
On the eve of The Revelation, leaders from both sides met across party lines to secure a tenuous, but fair alliance. A vampire house rose to seniority over its kin, the original house that sided with peace and not war. They would retain autonomy to rule their kind and to keep werewolves in line. Werewolves would be confined to compounds where they would be able to establish their own laws and monitored in the outside world to be sure they had their beast under control. And humans would remain in charge, believing they held all the cards. Supernaturals joined human society and humans maintained their independence. They were allowed to rule each other separately and consequences would be levied by the others jurisdiction should harm fall a human or supernatural. Elite forces and ambassadors were established for both sides to maintain the peace.
This tenuous agreement, however, left room for deceit and destruction from the inside. Over the years, as leadership in the ruling vampire household changed, vampires began to take control of the city by selecting loyal officials in the human rank and file. Those who would turn a blind eye to their misdeeds. They were allowed to carry-out underground slave trading to feed their bloody needs and began ruling the city from the shadows.
The werewolves began cornering the markets of business due to their natural ferocity and began breaking the confines of their compounds. This led to skirmishes with vampires and humans alike, but most persevere and fight for their equality. While most still reside within those safe walls of their pack's compound, many of the younger generation dream of a day their people don't live in fear and want to be that change.
As for the humans, well, some decided that survival was better than slavery or being mauled without protection. Humans began swearing allegiance to vampire houses, in hopes of one day earning immortality. Some began marrying into werewolf packs to secure safety from the vampires. But not all humans were pleased with the war ending and being subjects under their new immortal leadership. A human group banned together following the war that spread knowledge of killing supernaturals to its followers, called the Brotherhood of Light. While many play them off as a group of heretics, it's said that their alliances and membership runs deeper into human society than revealed. Prejudices against humans still run deep within the supernatural world and it is clear to the ancient creatures that humans can only pretend to hold their power for so long.

Hi everyone! So I've been craving writing good old horror lately and decided to revamp (lol) an old thread from another site. I know there seems to be an abundance of vampire and werewolf threads on here, but I'm hoping this grittier take could draw some people that would like the challenge. This story will revolve around this city, one where immortals are fighting for dominance over each other. Of course that isn't the whole plot, as much of the story writing will depend on the characters and their actions. Now that you have the background, let's get into the character backgrounds people can choose from:
Human— this species is a human. Alive, fleshy, and with any background you can think of. However here are some options to help them fit in this world:
Werewolf—Werewolves are creatures that appear as slightly taller and fitter humans, but have a beast side they learn to control. They are the typical adaptations of werewolves (ya know the large furry wolf men), with their fur color and eye color determined by pre-existing features in their human form. They can control their change, but must learn that control through their own work and perseverance to find that balance between their wolf and human forms. Their changes are not tied to moon cycles, but a wolf can lose control of their change if they have not changed in a while. Their abilities include super smell and hearing which is in and out of wolf form. In a wolf form, just imagine all the damage a big beast can do and you have a perfect idea. However, Wolves have extremely low birth rates, which is why they have begun allowing humans into their pack life to improve this.They do not have the same immortality that vampires possess but they do live for a very long time. These are subcategories/affiliations you can choose
Character sheets are as follows:
Name:
Age:
Gender:
Species:
Affiliation:
Appearance: ((picture or description or both is fine))
Personality:
Background: ((Just enough to get a gist of your character))
~~~~~~~
So now for some ground rule:
Feel free to make as many characters as you can handle—Just make sure they continue to contribute in some way and you're not getting stressed managing them.
Be nice to other posters— This is a thread about party lines so I know not all the charas are going to like each other. Or some might like each other a lot and decide to pursue romance ((Please keep it non-explicit because I'd rather not read it. Y'all can write that on your own time in something separate!)). Buuut that being said, leave it in the thread and if someone is making you uncomfortable let me know so it can get solved. This is supposed to be fun not stressful!
Keep ya actions to ya self-- Don't control other people's characters unless you have express permission from that person (must be tagged in the post) please!
Posting Order—On other sites I've been on there was a rule about posting order. On here though it seems to be a free-for-all. I'm still deciding on which I would rather have. I think I'll base it on the number of people, if any, that are interested. I'm leaning towards no posting order as long as you don't let it go too far and leave people way behind.
Please feel free to post character profiles here and message me with any concerns or questions. Happy posting!
Now that you have the background, let's get into the character backgrounds people can choose from:
Human— this species is a human. Alive, fleshy, and with any background you can think of. However here are some options to help them fit in this world:
- Vampire House Initiate/Slave— a human who has pledged service to a vampire house. These are the second lowest members of the vampire house, basically treated as hired help. They must complete a period of servitude before they are changed. For some this begins at childhood, where they were selected to serve a purpose due to aptitude or skill. For some, this process starts later when they gain favor with the House. There is a rigorous interview process by the vampire house before a human is accepted. It's considered an honor when you complete your service and become a vampire. Slaves are treated like blood banks and lower than the Initiates. They are viewed more like pets than people and are considered disposable. They keep these humans pliable and controlled with a substance called Venom, which is concentrated vampire venom laced with their pheromones (with other nastiness mixed in) to keep the person addicted and reliant.
- Werewolf Pack Member—These humans have married into a werewolf pack. They are considered full members by most of the younger generation but are still viewed with distain by the older wolves. They have the same voting rights and autonomy that the wolves do in their society.
- Brotherhood of Light Member—a group of humans that are resisting against the supernaturals. They have a deep hatred of supernaturals and are viewed as criminals in the city. They hide their actions in the shadows for survival.
- Everleigh House Vampire—The Everleigh House is a vampire family that prides itself on tradition and structure. Most of these vampires are involved in the arts, politics, or law enforcement. Prideful, powerful, and exclusive are a few words that would describe the title. They are ruthless towards dissent and like to keep rigorous castes within their household to uphold station. At the top is the Elder, a vampire who is in control and considered the final say in most decisions. This vampire is in control of the house until they are deemed to old and "laid to rest" or are unseated by a coup. The current standing Elder is Othello Everleigh. Next is one of 3 council members, or a vampire from one of the 3 lower loyal Everleigh family branches that consult with each other on laws and uphold peace. Then there is the house vampire, or the general citizens that help in making sure the Everleigh House remains strong. They can have any outside job imaginable, but their loyalty and tithes go straight back to the House. Then there are Initiates, or humans that were chosen to become vampires who fill menial roles within the house before they are turned. Lastly, servants and slaves are considered the lowest caste with no chance of rising above that station.
- Outcast— The Outcasts are a group of vampires who are considered Houseless. These vampires either did something to piss someone off and were cast out or they are illegally turned vampires in hiding. They are basically free agents that move within the city without the protection of the Everleigh name. If caught, they can face death, so most hide their nature or do their best to create a cover. Although they are free agents, they do have to swear a strange loyalty to a vampire named Lady Imperie. No one except a closed circle of vampires has ever seen this woman, due to the price on her head for going against the Everleigh, and some question if she even exists. A vampire under this house might work in the human hunting business or odd jobs that don't draw a lot of attention.
Werewolf—Werewolves are creatures that appear as slightly taller and fitter humans, but have a beast side they learn to control. They are the typical adaptations of werewolves (ya know the large furry wolf men), with their fur color and eye color determined by pre-existing features in their human form. They can control their change, but must learn that control through their own work and perseverance to find that balance between their wolf and human forms. However, Wolves have extremely low birth rates, which is why they have begun allowing humans into their pack life to improve this.They do not have the same immortality that vampires possess but they do live for a very long time. These are subcategories/affiliations you can choose
- Forstner Pack Werewolf--These are werewolves that belong to the local pack of the city, the Forstner Pack. These wolves live on compounds throughout the city and outside of it, surrounded by their own kind. They are branded with the packs symbol from a young age, which is the symbol of a life tree. These wolves are beholden to the control of an Alpha, who rules over the group with an iron fist. Currently, their Alpha has been murdered and they are seeking a new wolf to take their position. What the Alpha says is absolute and in the former Alpha's absence many wolves are working together to control the chaos to not leave the pack vulnerable. A pack functions like a true democracy. Popular vote decides changes to the pack and the Alpha is in charge of enforcing those changes and putting forth ideas for changes. Most of the younger generation are very business minded and are involved in most corporations in the city, namely health care, finance, and industry.
- Lone Wolves--These werewolves chose to leave the pack out of necessity or are being forced out. These wolves are treated like dirt by the Pack Wolves and do not have the same offered protections against vampires and humans. They usually try to fit in with humans or find their place in a happy seldom middle to avoid drama and harm. With less support, these wolves often will own small businesses, work odd jobs, or stay homeless
