Captain Nadine Rhodasio "A pirate's life is a gamble with fate, where the dice roll on the deck of destiny."
Name
Nadine Rhodasio is the real name of Captain Edith Davenport, the fearsome pirate captain of the world seas who heralds the galleon Stormbringer. She keeps her real name a secret to hide a particular identity that she has tried to forget, yet continues to haunt her.
Nicknames & Aliases
Only her first mate, Magdalen “Mags” Farnham knows her real name and calls her Nadi behind closed doors. The rest of her crew, a collection of people of all genders, call her Captain Davenport or just Captain. Patricia Padley is another fake name she uses on land to disguise herself and let loose without her title and infamy weighing her down.
Gender & Sexuality
Nadine is a cisgender female and uses she/her pronouns. She is pansexual and panromantic, attracted to any and all types of people. Her crew knows this and only one former member tried to court her (who was thrown overboard shortly after (into a shallow spot by a pier)). One of the rules of her ship is that personal/physical relationships are allowed, but the captain is off-limits.
Age
Nadine is 32 years old and was born on December 27th (Capricorn).
Physical Characteristics
Nadine stands at 5’10” and weighs 174 pounds. She has a triangle frame, with toned arms and a modest torso sitting on top of a pair of thicker, powerful legs from years of being at sea. Nadine’s eyes are a light brown, like coffee with extra cream, and almost seem to flash gold in the right light, and she has wavy, jet-black hair. It falls to her mid-back and is often left unbound or in a loose ponytail that still allows her to wear her tricorn hat. It is also decorated with beads tied into the base of her hair above her ears.
Nadine has various sun-spots and freckles on her face and clavicle, as she keeps the rest of her body covered. The tips of her nose and ears are often reddened from salt spray. She also has several nicks and scars from previous fights, the worst being an old stab wound from a dagger that completely pierced her right forearm. On her left bicep, she has a black tattoo of a pair of folded bird wings, and on the right side of her neck is a small black tattoo of a four-point star. She has her earlobes pierced, and she typically wears small silver or gold hoops, though she’s never without any ear decoration. She also wears a rope necklace with a shark’s tooth surrounded by golden beads.
Personality
Nadine is fiery and fierce, a go-getter who has no qualms with taking anything she wants. After all, it is her right as a pirate, a criminal in the eyes of the royals and their laws. She is an effortless leader, demonstrating this through her ability to learn the quirks and habits of her fellow crew members, whom she feels a devastatingly deep loyalty to for their years of service. If necessary, she would die to save them.
She will, however, hold a grudge against someone who slights her, and she rarely offers second chances to be in her good graces (outside of her crew). She does not often choose to be introspective about her flaws, which are being impulsive and hasty as well as a metaphorical bridge-burner, and she would rather shove her emotions down rather than consider them. While she isn’t always quick to anger, depending on the perceived offense, her fury is explosive, and arguments aboard the Stormbringer have often ended in swordfights, which can also win back her favor if one is a good crewmate. Anyone off the ship, though, does not get that luxury.
Likes & Dislikes Likes
being out at sea with the wind in her hair | a good bout of swordplay and sparring | treasure and sparkly, valuable items | birds, cats, and sea-faring creatures | a fine aged whiskey; luck-based games (such as cards or dice) with wild bets | reading by moonlight when she's alone
Dislikes
being stuck on land for too long | loose-fitting pants and boots | the superstition that women on board a ship put the ship in peril | hard mattresses | growing older | rats on board the ship
History
Nadine is flippant about her past and won't hesitate to start a fight with someone for pressing her about it. She always says that the past should stay where it is and that if she doesn't care about her crew members' pasts, they shouldn't care about hers. Seems like it'll take someone to get past her defenses and learn more about why she hides her identity.
