My mother was doing that thing she did. That thing with the rag in the sink. Mother would always scrub at the sink when she had too much on her mind. "Ma, Ma!" She kept facing outward, through the spaces between the boarded windows panes. Her hand was still now, but her thoughts still raced "Ma, we are going to be alright. As long as we stay inside, like the broadcast says".
