Hey there complete and total strangers! The name's Quillathe, Quill for short. I'm a self-proclaimed "writing nerd," and have been enjoying forum roleplaying for over a decade now. I'm also an avid D&D fan, and specifically a DM- complete with the cartoon villain cape and maniacal plotting. I may also be just a tad snarky, or so other people say. Other than that, I mostly spend my time working a dreadfully boring job as a waitress, rewatching episodes of my favorite shows, and cleaning up after my fur babies (who would have thought they could throw up so frequently?) So, that super basic background out of the way, we all know I'm not posting here to chit chat- I'm looking for some writing partners. That said, I really ought to get to what you all care about, huh?

First of all, these are the important things to know about me and my writing style, as well as what I look for in a partner:
  1. In my experience, the keys to a healthy partnership are communication and compromise. I try to keep an open door, and hope my partners feel comfortable discussing anything with me, be it related to the story or anything else. I also know that no two people will ever match up perfectly, so it's important that we both give a little to get a story we enjoy. I'm happy to tweak things a bit and make changes for you, so long as you don't dig in your heels any time I ask the same of you.
  2. I know a lot of people care a lot about posting frequency. If you need constant posts or a regular posting speed, I'm not your gal. My availability tends to fluctuate, both on how busy I am and how inspired I am to write at any given time. Sometimes I can post every day, or even multiple times a day. Other times I may only get out one post a week. I do try to get at least one a week, though, unless something happens to prevent that. On the bright side, that means I'm not super picky about my partners' response times. Just let me know if you'll be gone for more than a week, otherwise I might poke you to make sure you haven't lost interest!
  3. I tend to write a lot. My usual minimum is 3 paragraphs, although there might be a rare circumstance that calls for less. More frequently, though, I can write more than that- sometimes a lot more. I'd love my partner to be able to match my soft minimum of 3 paragraphs (soft because I understand there are sometimes exceptions.) I don't expect you to match me for length when I go off on a spiel though!
  4. I'm an avid world builder, and also what you might call a rather assertive writer. Perhaps it's my inner DM, but it simply isn't in me to take a backseat role in the planning or writing of a story. We can go halfsies on planning or I'm happy to put together a concept for the two of us, but don't expect me to step into your pre-created world or simply follow your lead the whole time.
  5. This kind of goes along with the above point, but I usually have multiple characters in a story, be that multiple mains or just a wide cast of side characters. I am also quite able to write both male and female characters, as well as the occasional non-binary when the mood strikes me (although I never agree with fetishizing any character's gender, no matter what.) I do generally have a preference for female characters, though, hence posting here, and I will always have at least one female main. Since I usually (but not entirely always) stick with mxf pairings, I will usually ask my partner to play at least one male main to pair with her. I'm always happy to double, though. If you also prefer female mains, I do ask that you at least be willing to double for me if I'm not in a mood for fxf or another non-mxf pairing. I have a long history of being pressured into being only the male in a pairing or into fxf pairings even though it isn't my main jam, and it's left me a little burnt out and jaded.
  6. I know you're all wondering- "Yeah, but does she write smut?" The answer is yes... To an extent. My one rule is that it not be gratuitous smut. A good raunchy sex scene can be great to outline the characters' relationship (and even how it evolves over time), bring out feelings that are otherwise hidden, lead to compromising positions, or showcase some revealing pillow talk. There are all sorts of ways to make the scene matter to the story. If it doesn't matter in some way to the story, I'm going to get bored of it. I'm a very story-first writer. As far as any kinks may go, I take more or less the same view- if it makes sense for the story and characters, fine, I've got no issues with it. If it doesn't, then I'm going to say no. My only hard limits (as of now) are anything that is against site rules, bodily functions not usually related to sex (anything that belongs in a toilet, for example), vore, and excessive gore (in relation to sex- it's fine in a non-sexual context.)
Okie dokie, so now that you've made it through the boring part, here's your reward- what sort of things I like to write! I'm going to break this down into four sections. First of all, I'm going to go over what genres I do and don't write. Then I'll talk about fandoms I'm familiar with. Next, I'll have a general word/idea bank to help spark some imagination. Finally, for those looking for a bit more direction, I'll have a few more developed prompts at the end.

Genres:
  • Yes- Historical (pre-industrial revolution), Fantasy (low), Fantasy (high), Political, Romance (with an actual plotline.)
  • Sometimes- Historical (post-industrial revolution), Fantasy (mid), Action/Adventure
  • Rarely- Fantasy (modern/urban), Supernatural, Sci-fi
  • Never- Slice-of-Life, Modern (without fantasy elements), Romance (as the only plot)
Fandoms:
  • Game of Thrones: Not going to lie, I don't like to write canon characters here. But I'd love to do something inspired by the show, either just in theme or by replacing major players is OCs. I'm also love to explore a different era in the setting- Aegon's Conquest or the Dance of the Dragons, for example.
  • Supernatural: Again, not really interested in playing as or against canon characters. But I'd love to put together a couple of OC hunters and send them romping around making the world a better place removing one monster at a time.
  • Akatsuki no Yona: It's been a while since I've watched any anime, I must admit, but this was one of my old favorites. I strongly prefer OCs, but might be talked into something else depending on the plot.
  • Noragami: Pretty much the same as the above. Would love to toss some OCs in the world and have some fun here.
Idea Bank:
  • Political intrigue
  • Arranged marriages
  • Fae shenanigans
  • Dragons!
  • Unexpected plot twists
  • Something with world hopping?
  • Vikings are usually fun
  • Mentor/Apprentice dynamic (both adults, of course)
Plots:
*Plots may be added to or changed frequently, so if nothing catches your interest now, feel free to check back later*

"Will you walk into my parlour?" said the Spider to the Fly,
"'Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy;
The way into my parlour is up a winding stair,
And I have many curious things to show when you are there."
"Oh no, no," said the little Fly, "to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair can ne'er come down again."

-The Spider and the Fly, by Mary Howitt
In the tower perched atop the bluff that overlooked the city lived a witch. Everyone knew that. And everyone knew that you didn't want to mess with a witch. They could curse you, or turn you into a frog, or boil you up in their cauldron and have you for supper. No, better to avoid them entirely. Fortunately, the witch left the city alone, and no one had ever seen her, save for brief glimpses if they wandered too far into the woods near the tower. Every child was taught from an early age not go go up the hill or anywhere near that tower. Perhaps YC always listened, or perhaps he didn't, but he's certainly never had anything strange happen to him. Until, for some reason, he entered the woods- and finds her. But she's not like any witch he would expect- no withered old crone, but a beautiful, charming young woman, although the air of magic about her is undeniable. Strangest of all, despite being reclusive, she has no problem chatting with him- or inviting him back to her tower. Surely, with all the warnings he's received over the years, that will send alarm bells ringing in his head. But will he resist, or accept the perilous invitation. And if he does, will the witch simply be a misunderstood, lonely woman, or something far more sinister?

Obviously, the witch in question would be my main character. Whether friend or foe is up for us to decide together- or I can leave that as a surprise for you! Who, exactly, your character is is entirely up to you. It would be nice if he eventually gave in to the witch's invitations- hard to have much of a story otherwise! But I'm definitely down to drag that out over multiple encounters, with her slowly worming her way into his trust and winning him over. I love the "danger" aspect of it, and the idea of her luring him away from that he is "supposed" to do.
People are always afraid of what they do not understand. [Character] is no exception to that. Any kind of magic would always be suspect, with how rare it is. But having premonitions- now that is something the court magicians agree hasn't been seen in a long time. The ability to glimpse the future is a powerful tool, and they took notice right away. [Character] was so young when they were brought to court that they barely even remember their parents, although they remember they were all too glad to hand [Character] off to be someone else's problem. [Character] became a part of the court, well-treated, yet carefully guarded and restricted. Since then, they've been in the care of a rotating staff of advisors and mages who have poked and prodded them, dutifully recording any visions [Character] has, and trying to find a way to focus those premonitions, to actively foretell the future, although they've had no luck. But now, with the kingdom embroiled in a dangerous civil war, the monarch is more desperate than ever to make use of [Character]'s skills, and [Character] is happy to help them- at least at first. But what happens when [Character] sees something that makes them realize that the monarch is not, in fact, the person they thought? Surely, [Character]'s loyalty will be tested- but will they betray their long-time patron, or choose the life they've always known? And will they find anyone to support them with the decision they've made?

As I'm sure you've noticed, this prompt only talks about one specific character. That character can be either mine or yours depending on your preference. Who they are paired against is also super open ended. Perhaps another member of the court, or someone resisting the current ruler. The possibilities are near endless- mainly because I'd love to hear any ideas you might have on how you'd like to see the story go!

Ahem. So anyway, to anyone who actually managed to read through all that, I appreciate your patience! If I haven't managed to scare you away and you'd like to give writing together a shot, I'd love to hear from you. Feel free to shoot me a pm and we can talk about it!
