Gostfar. In English it means feast of seed. A tradition dating back to the origins of the Orc.

As many might already know...

When the realms were divided between the gods, it was supposed to be fair. Everyone would toss a chip and where that chip landed was where the god would rule. The dwarfs got the mountains, the elves got the forest. When it came time for Gruumsh to toss his lot, a mysterious wind suddenly blew and caused his chip to fall in the most hospitable of lands. At the time he both blessed and cursed his own race to be conquered by all they saw. As it turned out, the orcs needed that unrelenting strength that was given to them. For those barren lands were not void of life.

What most races don't know is...

Black festering pits bubbled to the cracked surface of the weathered lands. Oozing tar that was the embodiment of pure evil. As the orcs became infested their skin started to turn colors. Anywhere from a deep green to an ashen gray. Tusks sprouted and ears became more pointed. Soon there was nothing left of the former race.

However that wasn't the end of the proud warriors. Through stubbornness and sheer will, they fought against the newly rising infested orcs and shed their blood. They fought against the darkness that attempted to turn them into the monsters the rest of the world saw them as. In the process the orcs were almost wiped out.

Now, once a year, the orcs spend a day remembering the darkest moments in their history. When they were almost wiped out by the darkness they conquered.

Several things take place on Gostfar

First, the morning is filled with combat and acts of strength and power. Showing off why the orcs won in the end. Using only the primal weapons the clans had back in the early days. Stories of battles are shared and much ale is drunk.

Next, After the brutal fighting is over and a clan champion is named it signals the start of the feast. With more drinking and stories of the gods and battles long past. Stories of fallen warriors over the years. The main dish to this feast is a blood pudding served in a bread-like bowl. Three other dishes are made that represent the main heroes that led the orcs to victory.

As the night goes on the unmated females come out. This is where the celebration got it's name. Dressed in little more than war paint and beads, any male who was able to tame the savage beauties were allowed to bed them. Most times the unmated would bed 4 or 5 men in one night as they looked for their mate. Trying to unsure the claim stayed strong. If they became fertile with child it was seen as a blessing from Luthic, the Cave Mother. The orc god of healing and caves. This dates back to when the clan's numbers were dwindling and were desperate to replenish numbers of the orcs not infected by the darkness. Although the darkness was driven back, the orc never lost their features from the days of battling the darkness. Like a constant reminder of what they almost lost.
