Day dawns: birthing of the sun,
genesis of the light;
activity starts at square one.
Breakfast kicks off our activity
So we can take off:
Outset, onset of school, work, chores.
Opening salvo of a meeting:
Starting point of discussion,
Alpha in search of an omega, we talk.
Talk is the fountainhead of deliberation,
The prelude to decision and
The principle of the morning's progress.
Lunch launches us into the afternoon
Inaugurates another cycle of labour
And the threshold of fatigue.
Preface to the evening meal,
Source of leisure,
The cocktail initiates the gloaming.
Root and spring of sleep,
Night conceives the dark
And inaugurates an ending.
