I know very little about D&D but I tried.
The poster in Brom's hand read:
Adventurers Wanted to retrieve the king's stolen crown. Riches await those brave enough to join this valiant quest. See the king's guards for further details.
Riches were exactly what he wanted. He would finally be able to propose to his darling elven sweetheart, who stood calmly at his side. The idea of that kept Brom from leaving the long line of adventurers that waited at the castle gates even though it felt like everyone in the forgotten realms had shown up. The line moved slowly as each adventurer was surveyed by the king's guards. Some had entered already but most were being turned away for one reason or another. Anxiety flickered in Brom's chest but he pressed on, determined to get his chance.
After what felt like an eternity, he and his sweetheart reached the castle gates. The captain of the guard stood before them, sizing up his large stature after glancing at the elf beside him. "Let me guess, a barbarian?" The captain asked, sighing. "We don't need any barbarians for this quest."
Brom frowned and shook his head. His right eye twitched with irritation. Just because he was an orc didn't mean he was a barbarian! "No, Brom not a barbarian. Brom is a wizard!" He exclaimed, internally cringing. He wasn't the most fluent in common. Beside him, Silas patted his arm to soothe his temper, making all his powerful muscles relax in an instant.
"A wizard, huh?" The captain repeated, looking skeptical. "Oh yes," Silas chimed in. "He is a very practical wizard." The pride in the elf's voice made Brom's heart pound. "...and what are class are you?" The captain asked the elf. "A ranger." The captain's brows furrowed in confusion, eyeing Silas over. "You don't have a bow." Silas smiled charmingly. "That's because I use this." He replied, pulling a piece of wood shaped like a rifle off his back. On the end was a red crystal which projected a red dot of light when pointed at something.
"Uh huh... Can you give me a demonstration?" He gestured toward a practice dummy nearby. "Naturally," Silas agreed, stepping away from Brom's side. He pointed the 'gun' at the practice dummy and the crystal on the end projected a red dot on the dummy's chest. At first, nothing happened but then a huge black cat beast leapt out of the nearby thicket and tackled the dummy to the ground, tearing it to shreds with its fangs and claws.
The captain and those around them could only stare in shock until Silas whistled, calling the beast off. The black panther slunk over to the elf's side, looking proud of itself while the elf patted its head. The captain of the guard could only blink before glancing at Brom again. "...okay then, show me what you can do."
"Brom cast fireball." The orc rumbled, pulling a Molotov cocktail out of his pack. He threw it at the destroyed dummy, setting it aflame. The captain looked just as dumfounded as before, staring at the odd couple and their panther for a long minute before speaking again. "You know what, I think you're just what we need." The captain said, stepping aside. "Go right in."
With a tusked smile, Brom took Silas by the hand and led the way inside, their panther following along.
