They've lied to us, my dear.
They told us we'd be happy.
A promising tale of forever after
Has turned into a sour tragedy.

Do you remember the nights of new?
The stars that seemed so bright.
A sky of such deep indigo blue,
A pale moon who held us tight.

And the mornings of a timid sun?
Whose rays woke us with a gentle air.
Do you remember how our days begun?
Soft lips and fingers through each other's hair.

High noon would greet us with a brilliant smile,
The warmth of which a comforting embrace.
Reminisce in that a while.
Do you miss the light upon your face?

Time has sadly not been our friend,
The years eroding our fragile hearts.
That promise has cracked, has come to an end.
We've grown so damn far apart.

Your eyes have dulled, that smile gone.
I've shut you out and looked away.
What did we miss, what turn was wrong?
Have we really given in to such decay?

It's grown dark, our place ice cold.
It feels so empty, all alone.
The days, they drag, are getting old.
My heart is now a lump of stone.

A heavy weight, a broken ache,
This is our fate, I fear.
We have made a grave mistake.
They've lied to us, my dear.
