Name: Lumaria
For the Story: Mirror Mirror, Where's My Son?
Physical Decription:
Long blonde hair falling just below the shoulders, most of which is typically restrained in a ponytail down his back. Lumaria has pure blue eyes and a regal appearance that has been bred through his line, his every feature a produce of his ancestors' refined tastes in choosing betrothals for their children. He is quite tall with a thin frame, but his form is far from weak. Lumaria keeps himself in perfect shape with daily training, and his ability to defend himself would surprise you. He has no notable scars or markings upon his skin, save for a light line along his right wrist, a wound from a training exercise gone wrong when he was a teenager that he managed to hide well enough that the healers were unable to fully recover the wound before it left a permanent mark.
Personality: King Lumaria prides himself on being a fair ruler. He pushes himself to be an even better ruler than his line is known to be. He wants his kingdom to experience peace and prosperity under his rule. That said, he is not a pushover and is able to make hard decisions for his kingdom. And although he does care about his people and wants to do everything possible to make their lives prosperous, he will be the first to admit that he has a selfish side. He would do anything, for instance, for the sake of his adopted son, regardless of whether it would be best for the kingdom or not. Family comes first to him. And that is not something he is willing to compromise on.
History: Lumaria was born to be a king, and was brought up with his duty constantly on his mind. He abided by every rule, threw himself into every lesson, and made certain that he was the ideal prince. As the only heir born to his family, he knew it was expected of him. After his parents died in a carriage accident when he was barely seventeen, Lumaria none-the-less took over the throne and filled the role he had always known he was born to. He even accepted the betrothal his parents had worked out for him before their deaths. And he sired a son, a male heir to the throne, just as he was supposed to. But all of this was simply duty for him, up until that point.
But his life took an unexpected turn when his infant son was magically replaced almost as soon as he was born. A completely different child appeared in his son's place in the crib through a flash of light. And though he had no way to find out where his true son had gone or where this one had come from, Lumaria still found himself bonding with the little boy in that crib. And so he adopted the strange baby and raised him as his heir. His queen, however, never recovered from giving birth and fell too ill to be cured, passing away within weeks. And this left Lumaria alone, save for his new infant son. Needless to say, this brought him to grow even closer to the little boy.
Lumaria's focus in life became the son he was grooming to become king. And although he made sure that little Emerald (named for the emerald eyes that glistened like their namesake) learned everything he could that would later enable him to become a great ruler, Lumaria became even more determined to make sure that Emerald also had a better life than himself, free of the inability to make his own choices. Lumaria chose not to arrange a betrothed for his son, wanting Emerald to be the first in his line to be able to choose his own lifemate later on.
But now it seems that little Emerald, at seven years old, will never get the chance to make such a choice, for the little prince has contracted a terrible and unhealable illness. Lumaria had always known the child was different. The boy had a magic about him that was second nature to him, so different from the chanting spells and casting human mages could do. Lumaria had tried very hard to teach his little son to control that magic and keep it secret, but it was always like trying to teach a bird not to use its wings. Emerald's magic seemed a part of him, like a limb, that simply moved and acted with his will. And now that magic seemed to be tearing his son apart.
His only hope now rests within a magical mirror that has sealed within it an entity more powerful than anything else in all of Lumaria's realm. Does he dare release such a force in hopes of curing his son? ...Hell yes, he does.
