MC is the daughter of a noble house , but throughout her childhood she had always had terrible luck with facial acne… as a result, her home town had saddled her with the reputation of being the most unattractive girl in their highborn society… boys of the noble houses dreaded the thought of ending up betrothed to such an unattractive girl.
MC’s family however was among the most wealthy with an array of successful businesses piling great wealth atop their families already impressive ancestral coffers… which unfortunately for the sons of other families (unfortunate according to the sons), this makes MC a very highly coveted target for an alliance marriage.
YC is also from a noble house and he has been engaged to MC since they were five years old… a fact YC has taken great lengths to keep a secret from his peers for as long as possible for fear of suffering a social death with his flashy glamorous friends.
MC and YC have only have a small handful of interactions throughout their childhood, during all of which, YC wasn’t the nicest to MC, making it clear to her that he would never love such an ugly girl.
When MC turned sixteen, she convinced her family to let her go overseas to France for three years to visit with her grandmother until the time rolled around that she was to marry YC.
MC’s grandmother is a master herbalist that is always discovering brilliant genius medicinal properties of plants… and she had recently wrote to MC about a flower from the Amazon rainforest that she obtained cuttings from and had replanted in her own greenhouse… this flower was believed to be a cure all for skin ailments… but the process was a long one and the ointment made from the flower’s petals would need to be applied daily for three years to completely cure whatever was ailing the skin.
Fast forward three years… YC is dreading his wedding day and has even contemplated running away, but the money he stands to inherit… not to mention the shame he’d heap onto his family… he knows he has no choice but to go through with it and marry his hideous fiance.
MC arrives at the wedding wearing a splendorous wedding gown… and a mysteriously opaque veil that you can’t really see her through…
When YC lifts the veil, he finds that all of the ugly red marks are gone and his bride is actually rather gorgeous… he is so relieved! Not to mention quite smitten!
However, after the wedding and the reception, when MC and YC are sent to the mansion gifted to them by MC’s family, MC turns cold and has her things placed in a separate bedroom, she then refuses to consummate the marriage.
She reminds YC of all the hurtful cruel things he’s ever said to her and the way he treated her… she adds his family got the alliance they wanted, he himself could just live his life as normal.
However… He doesn’t want to live his life the way it was anymore… he wants his new beautiful wife…
