This is an idea I have tried a couple of times before, but it struggled because of OOC distractions. I am looking to try again.
What I need:
1. Literate, multi-paragraph writers
2. People who can post at LEAST once a week. Please take this requirement seriously. I understand real life happens and delays might as well, but please only sign up if you can realistically meet that requirement and will let me know if there will be delays.
3. Be willing to play multiple, distinct characters. Even if you start with one, the plan is for pretty much everyone to play at least two. This allows for a more diverse group and allows ways to work around everyones schedules.
4. Be alright with violence. Some sexual content is likely as well, but it isn't mandatory to be involved in it and this is not a sex roleplay.
For right now, I am looking for FOUR other writers. The number is flexible, but it will be extended at my discretion.
I will be acting as a semi-DM for this game and I will be asking everyone to run their characters by me. That way I can ensure a balanced group.
The plot:
Our characters have superpowers. No one knows where they came from, no one knows why they exist, but the governments of the world all agree, they need to be controlled. Some experiment, others train them as weapons, others just kill and dissect.
At the start, most of your characters will be trapped in a prison facility. Our first run will be the breakout, which will allow us to introduce them and their abilities.
Abilities:
I am something of a stickler in this regard. The following rules govern the way powers work in universe:
1. Powers tap into fundamental forces of nature. Elements, heat, light, sound, gravitation, etc, etc. They are never limited to affecting only human constructs (Though a character might believe they are) and they are never abstract. Powers should be as basic as possible, to ensure there are a lot of clever ways to use them.
2. Powers have weaknesses that are built into them. No kryptonite exists in this universe, no simple cancellation switch. For example, a character using electric powers might have trouble predicting exactly the path that their lightning will take and endanger allies or someone that manipulates human emotions might have extreme difficulty not immersing themselves in the feelings of their victims.
Out of universe, there are two more rules:
1. Powers are useful. Astral projection might sound cool—but if your character is going to be near useless 90% of the time, it's going to be REALLY hard to work them into the story.
2. Powers are interesting. Sure, it might be fun to just throw fireballs at everyone. But it isn't that interesting to read or to write. Powers that have a lot of possible clever applications, which can be used in abstract or unexpected ways or which allow for intersting tag-teaming between characters are ideal.
If you are interested, please post your character(s) below, filling out the following information or send it to me via PM. I will PM you from there to discuss.
Physical:
Name:
Age:
Height:
Eyes:
Hair:
Skin:
Body type:
Indentifying marks (Tattoos, scars, etc):
Additional description (Optional) :
Power:
Weakness:
Backstory (Optional):
I will be considering the needs of the group as far as character designs on a first come first served basis (So we don't wind up with 10 tanks and no infiltrators). I will be talking with everyone to make sure that their powers and backstory will mesh well with the universe.
Looking forward to hearing from everyone!!
