She has a serious case of middle child syndrome. The king's second eldest daughter is often overlooked when it comes to the royal family's adoring fans. She isn't the sophisticated, elegant eldest princess. She's not the darling youngest, either. Her father always seemed to overlook her...until it was time to marry her off to a foreign prince as part of a peace treaty.

And boy did he choose one.

The kyra have always been a mysterious people. They ruled the resource heavy lands next to her father's kingdom, but they remained a aloof. From their appearance, the horns, the claws, the tails, it was decided that they must be savages.

Their customs remain a mystery to their human neighbors. Their armies are quick to attack any transgression. Every battle ever fought with them has ended poorly for their enemies. With the kingdom's prospects of overcoming them to gain access to their resources looking thin, offering an olive branch has become the only viable option. A peace treaty with barbarians, and she was to marry one.

The princess will have much to learn about the secretive ways of the kyra. Are they truly as beastly as they seem?

Aldur Varillian of Felstrom

Age: 27

Background: The second son of the king and queen of Felstrom and far in line from the throne thanks to his prolific brother. Rendered practically useless as an heir, Aldur had to fight tooth and nail to earn respect and make himself something worth his parent's praise. He failed, ultimately, but he has become a very successful commander of the Felstrom guard.

If he was honest with himself early on, Aldur would have realized that he could have lassoed the moon and personally delivered it before his parent's thrones and they still wouldn't be impressed with him. He has since given up on that front, but he can thank the years of trying for his hard won respect elsewhere. His prowess as a fighter is legendary among his ranks and his soldiers hang on his every word. Had his father and mother gave a damn, he would have never gotten a chance to test his skills on the battlefield.

His only use in their eyes was as a token, a note in the margins, of a peace treaty with their neighboring kingdom. Drusia had been threatening Felstrom with war for as long as he could remember. Felstrom was famous for sitting on large deposits of precious metals and oil. Drusia never had a chance until the kingdom north of Felstrom twisted King Varillian's arm by also threatening to go to war. Felstrom would face too many losses fighting two kingdoms at once, so they struct a peace deal with the least ferocious of the two.

The northern kingdom, Khorus, is still threatening war. With Drusia as an ally, Felstrom has much less to worry about. Aldur hasn't let that translate to his soldiers slacking on their training, however. Now, with his inevitable marriage to a paper skinned human, he had more to worry about than ever.

About: Aldur never had trouble attracting the attention of kyra women. His tall frame, built with practical muscle and often dressed in uniform, did most of the work for him. His eyes, burning gold and lacking pupils as all kyra did, only strayed a few times. Knowing that he would eventually be married off to a stranger meant that any relations he had with a woman were very temporary. He was always up front about it, at least.

He had always imagined that stranger would at least be his own species, however. Aldur took the blow to his life plans in stride. He wouldn't be able to father children, but his brother certainly had that covered. He knew of the human reputation, but he also knew of his screeching harpy of a sister-in-law. Surely getting married to a sentient push broom couldn't be much worse. Like always, he had a plan: hope for the best, and invest in a private island to stow her on if worst came to worst.

Kyra general appearance: They are gray skinned, tall, lithe people. They have horns of various shape and size, clawed hands, and taloned feet. Their feet are like lizard people feet with four toes, scary claws, and a dew claw. They have glowing, pupil-less eyes. They have whip like tails that can be used to hold various objects, like say a dagger during a fight. They are also nocturnal.
